10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

This is our first cruise so I have no prior experience. Jim is just planning to wear a suit and tie. My dresses that I'm bringing for any occasion are all materials that are "packable" (not fabrics that will wrinkle). THey're all long and can be dressed up or down so I can make them more formal or less casual.

Thanks! That helps.

Haha, yeah, we're 15 days out. I actually thought DF and I were going to be the only ones who were taking a slightly delayed honeymoon, so I'm glad to see there's a break between you guy's wedding and trip, as well. I'm actually starting to like that we get a little time to settle down before we go on the cruise.

I know I am planning on getting a dress when all the stores start to put out their homecoming outfits for high schoolers. I perused through some yesterday and saw that they weren't horribley priced, but even doing that I will probably border on the not-so-formal side. (I'm probably going to stick with something short) :confused3 I just don't feel like packing a lot of fancy stuff. I think, though, with all things clothes, it's a matter of opinion and desire. Some people really want to go all out and enjoy themselves. Normally, I find getting all dolled up fun, but since I'll have spent my wedding like that, I'm taking the formal night a little easier.

I know DF is wearing his military service dress. To me, that's not too formal, but he has worn it on another cruise's formal night, so I suppose it works. He put his foot down right at the beginning and said he wasn't wearing a tux.

I went back and read what I wrote and realized I was really unclear. Sorry if that's confusing.:sad2:
Thanks and cograts on your upcoming wedding!

Dan will be in a suit and tie for formal and semi formal night. I don't have enough reasons to dress up so I have dresses for every night. a ball gown (not crazy puffy, still has to fit in a suitcase after all) and a shorter dressy dress (yes i'm making up words) for formal and semi formal evenings respectively and then cocktail/sundress type dresses for the other nights - pirate costumes still in debate lol. I am aware that I will likely be overdressed in comparison but, hey, I wanna be a princess too!princess:

and yes, there is quite a gap in between wedding and honeymoon - originally it was only going to be a few hours between the two but then we decided a crazy big wedding wasn't our thing and eloped :rolleyes1: besides, left way more funds for the cruise!
Thanks. We like to dress up too. Congrats on your recent marriage!

I think suit and tie will be nice. You see a few tuxes, but not a lot, and you'll see a lot of people who don't dress up at all. I've got a maxi-dress from my last cruise, and Jillian has some nice dresses although her feet have grown so we may need new shoes, so we'll be dressed nice, but not super formal.

Alicia, I think military mess dress is just as formal as a tux, maybe even more so! (Air Force brat, I just remember my dad wearing his, and when he did, my mom wore a really nice dress usually with shoes to match!)

And to Shannon and Alicia, congrats on your weddings!!!!! Are we ever going to see you on our cruise? ;)
Thanks, Alexis has some nice dresses and thankfully her feet have slowed down so she may have shoes that fit too.

I guess since I see the outfit so often I don't think about it being formal. My dad was in the Air Force, as well, so I've had to look at that suit my entire life. :rotfl:

I could ask...or he may see this post. But, I almost guarantee he'd feel "at work" instead of "on vacation".

Never hurts to ask. Alex kind of feels the same about his military suit, he's going to be wearing it to a function next month, so he's getting tired of it. But he wasn't about to put on another tux and he wanted to dress really nice one night.:confused3

I have to say i saw the same thing, a few tuxes and a few evening gowns the people who do dress up are mostly wearing suits and cocktail dresses, floral print dresses and black long dresses.

I also agree military dress is considered formal and i love it!
My hubby will be in suit and tie for both formal and semi formal night. I am packing a gown for formal and cocktail dress for semi formal. We don't get to dress up much and any chance i get the princess princess: in me can't resist!

That's cool. I think what I'm starting to like about cruises is that you get to relax and be laid back the majority of the time, but if you so desire, you can dress up and look nice. So I can completely understand you wanting to bring the princess out in you. :)

BBC - Baileys' Banana Colada

Ingredients:

1 small banana, sliced
1 oz. Banana Liqueur
Ice
3 oz. Pina Colada Mix
1 oz. Dark Rum

Method:

Fill blender with ice. Combine ingredients & blend until ice is crushed & mixture is smooth.

My preference is the last one with the dark rum.

That sounds delicious! I love bananas and pina colada flavors.

So is my DH! that one was his pick- discover mexico got good reviews on trip adviser, but i hear the ruins are small. we will enjoy the ruins as we have never been to tulum or any other major ruins on mainland mexico. Keep and eye out for us!

This is our first cruise, so we have never been to a place like that. We are usually easy to spot-me, DH, 4 kids.......:lmao:

Sounds yummy! How can you go wrong with Bailey's and ice cream and rum!

Speaking of packing, I'm thinking about what to bring for formal night. Do many men really wear a tux? What about the ladies? Sorry, I know this question gets asked all the time, but I really wanted to get some ideas from this group. Thanks!

If budget and DW's wishes were not considered, I would be wearing this:

Instead, I will probably wear suit and tie for both formal and semi-formal dinners, although I am looking for a thrifty source for a tuxedo. Like others have mentioned, I don't get dressed up often, so I would have a ball in a penguin costume!

They do have tux rentals on the ship, but I don't know if they're reasonable or not.

When I say thrifty, I mean Yankee thrifty :) Rental starts at $85 on board, which I think is probably pretty reasonable, especially considering the convenience of not having to pack it.

I am looking at a $15 tux on ebay :) It's "stage/costume grade" so I may have to hide the defects by staying in the background.

Look at it this way, you can just throw it out when you're done and have space in your luggage for a t-shirt!

That would be great. Thank you so much!

Checked out the Design Your Tee store and they do not have anything that shows the Cruiseline. They do offer Pirates of the Caribbean designs so I think my DH and I will design a tee for the Pirate's night and put something on it about the Magic. Not sure what we are going to say yet.

I LOVE THIS! I only wish i could get the DH into something like that. it is hard enough to get him to wear a disney tee shirt.

That is awesome! :goodvibes I wish my DF would wear something like that, but he's too reserved to pull it off. Suits and ties will still be very nice, though. :thumbsup2

C'mon, this is the perfect opportunity to be a little goofy! Most of the people on the ship, you will never see them again (you will just be laughed at in their scrapbooks for decades to come)!

Besides, the boating blazer is appropriate for nautical events on a ship inspired by the golden age of ocean cruising; and this style has also been sported by gentlemen who, though a diamond in the rough, underneath their blood is blue!

Or, you could go in this direction:

I just keep hearing "Oh, it's a jolly 'oliday with Mary...." running in my head when I see that suit! :rotfl:

I'm back after a week of camping. I missed sooo much.

So....who's going to wear the fancy blazer? I would love to see someone in that - you just know right away that they would be fun! (or a Thurston Howell the Third - but wouldn't it be fun to look for Mrs. Howell and see what she was wearing?)

Bittersweet time of year - getting ready for back to school (yay!) but it means summer is almost over (I love summer). Oh well, I have my cruise to get me through til Oct.

Grr, was just trying to edit my last post to add this info and it wasn't letting me. Sooooo......either this info will be new or it will be like the 12394782 time you've seen me ask haha!

Are we still holding at 15 cabins for the FE?

Yep, and I'll send out the new list here in a minute, thanks for reminding me! I've got a few updates on e-mails and stuff...
