Eric: So sorry about your car. That really stinks, especially since it is brand new. I'm glad everyone is okay though.
Ave: This is our first time in Cat. 5. (I'm usually a Cat. 11 when cruising with DH and kids). Hope I don't get too spoiled.
Everyone: thanks for all the congrats, I was just so excited to find out this morning and knew you all could relate.
Laura

Michele sorry to hear about the robbery.

Eric so sad to hear about your car. Good to know that you were not injured.

Laura great news about your upgrade.

Have to run as we are headed to Texas Roadhouse to get a nice steak to celebrate my turning 55 today. I can now qualify for some senior discounts

Hope that you all have a wonderful cruise and smooth sailing's as you travel through life. Mike

Eric,
Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad no one was hurt. Although I haven't been posting much I have been lurking some. I just can not keep up with all the posts. I have been trying to follow some of the Westbound cruise to bring the MAGIC home.

Ashely, Karen, so glad to hear you have joined us on Cruisetoberfest IV. We only wish it was going to be another 14 day cruise :teeth:

Papa, GoofNut, Hygine99, and so many others, so sorry to hear you won't joining us Cruisetoberfest IV. We will miss you all. I am sure you will have a GREAT time on the 11 day.

DS & DD go back to college this weekend. DD came back last weekend from her internship in Indiana, so this is the first week we have had them both home in quite a while.

Still hoping to join the crew in NYC in October. Has any selected a hotel to stay at yet?

Hi everyone! Wow, a day full of news! Sorry about your car Eric! How awful. Good to hear no one was hurt though. Great news of your upgrade Laura! Hi Dave and Ellen! We are sorry we won't be joining you! The 11 day was just too hard to pass up! We don't have a hotel yet for NY... Pete was going to try priceline when we get back from our WDW trip for Labor Day. Last time we went to NY we paid $100 to stay at a Hotel right across from Radio City Music Hall. So we will decide on something after Labor day. So excited to see everyone! I hope everyone has a fantastic week!! ~~~ Jenn :)

Eric...I AM SOOOOO Sorry to hear your car has been damaged! It just makes me sick! I hope that the repair shop does top notch work and uses only genuine parts! Not only has your prize posession been damaged, but now YOU have to be inconvenienced in getting it repaired and it's not even your fault! I hope she has to pay for a rental too!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE!!!! I hope the steak was good! We like to eat there too! Well, we really haven't found a place we don't like to eat at! I hope your day was Wonderful and Magical! :bday: :cake: :mickeybar

If the reviews suck, we don't wanna go there either - Thanks for checking it out, Peter. Where did you find those reviews?

Update on the car:
I took a day off today to take care of everything. In the morning the other driver called me to inform me about her reporting it to the insurance and to transmit the insurance's case-number. So I took the case-number, went to the shop, had the damage, and made an appointment for the repairs. It's of course a Renault-dealer using original parts only, which is very important as I have a four year full warranty on all mechanical parts of the car and a twelve-year warranty on the body (Corrosion-wise). So especially the bodyshop needs to be Renault or at least Renault-certified.
They will also provide me with a replacement - a sedan, but it's better than walking isn't it ;) Additionally the insurance has to compensate me for loss of resale value. The repairs will take four to five days.
And I'll probably have some 'Blondes' Beepers' installed while they're at it. That's the German nickname for those rear parking sensors :earboy2: Our convertible's trunklid is as high as an SUV's hood and so parallel parking or reversing really is tricky. To install those sensors the rear bumper has to be removed and as they have to replace it anyway I should get it considerably cheaper.

Happy Birthday Mike!!! :cheer2:

Eric -- So sorry to hear about your car. What a pain to be without it for so long even when you have a replacement. Here in Canada she could actually have been charged criminally rather than just a fine.

Fiona

Eric, I am glad it is all going to work out! I have Blone Beepers in my SUV. Steve installed a camera on his. I like that much better! Who knows, maybe someday, I'll change to the camera too. I didn't have the navagation system when I got the backing sensors. Now that I have the nav screen, I could get the camera. Might have to look into that!
Have a Zippity Do Dah, Zippity Day!

Erik--- Sorry to hear about your car getting re ended, what a bummer especially since it is a new car. So glad that you weren't hurt.

Happy Birthday Mike :bday:

Ave-- I mailed the books out late Saturday so you should have them the end of the week. Whenever you get yours out to me is fine.

Dave-- Nice to see you posting. Hope you and Ellen can make it to NYC.

If the police hadn't shown up that quickly, I would have been charged criminally, because I would have strangled her :teeth:
In Germany you will only be charged criminally for a trafficaccident, when DUI or physical damage to persons is involved. Neverteless her driving style impield that she was DUI and so I made the cops test her. Result 0.0 :confused3 But perhaps the device just showed her IQ :rotfl2:

Nancy,
you did it again - Want to adopt me? ;)

You sure he only uses the camera for reversing or is he using the high stance of his Avalanche to look into cars behind him i.e. at the ladies at the wheel ?pirate:
In 99% of the cases I don't need the beepers as at our house, at the office and at the gym I always park nose-in, but when going downtown or parking at Gramps's house it's parallel. My nav is a PDA and so there's no camera option. Our car cam standard with a radio & CD and I had it upgraded to a soundsystem with digital soundprocessing and a 6xCD-changer. If it had been available without radio I would perhaps have opted for one of those cool slide-out-screens with DVD, Nav & Camera as well. But now the HiFi-Equipment is fully integrated into teh car's electronic: Nealry everything can be controlled from a remote at the wheel and the display of teh radio is integrated into teh on-board computer, which is great theft protection.

Wow, I've been away from the boards for a while and can't beileve all that has happened. First off, condolences to Michele and Eric for their recent unpleasant ordeals. I'm just very thankful that in either case no one was hurt. Nancy, glad you enjoyed the PR&R concert. I will check out that RocknRoll cruise when I get a minute. We've been dealing with a very unfortunate situation of our own involving one of our employees and it has monopolized all our time. I am backlogged on everything AND we leave for Alaska next week! Oh, the train to NY was NJ Transit and Jen said she parked her car for free. I'm sure you can do a search and find some info online. I have book club tonight and still have 150 pages left to read so I need to get to that right away. So much to do....so little time.

I chatted with Jeff (Silentshot of Cruisetoberfest II) today: They're thinking about booking one of the 10/11 day-cruises.
And we will talk about doing a 7 day out of LA in 2007 with them. We'll decide upon it before Cruisetoberfest IV, because IF we do it, we want to take advantage of the on-board rebate.

What a coincidence:
When we had elections last time (2002) our Chancellor was lagging in the polls. Then that horrible flood in former East Germany took place and his smart crisis management together with his stance against the Iraq-war let him gain enough points to win the elections - although by a very narrow margin of 6,000 votes. So when he announced new elections for this year (One year ahed of time) some comedians started making jokes about when it would start to rain heavily. OK, we got 24 days to go til Election Day and half of Bavaria is flooded :earseek: Although this time it won't help him as his coalition is at least 15 points behind the opposition.
BTW, our Supreme Court will tell the nation it's ruling wether this election is constititional or not on Thursday.

We just watched 'Meet the Fokkers 2' :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Tomorrow Anja & I will go to a Golf try-out. My company has a Golf-Team (We also have teams for: Badminton, Squash, Running, Soccer, Swimming, Dragonboat Racing, Trithlon, Volleyball, Nordic Walking and Bowling), and they will give us the opportunity to hit as many balls as we want on the driving range and on the putting green for a nominal fee (€2.50/$3 for 36 balls). We'll see how we like it. I'll post a report tomorrow night.
