Ave - you were up late!

So sorry to hear about your car Eric but at least no one was injured.

Got my car back last night - it's all nicely cleaned too! They must have had fun though because I realized when we picked it up that we hadn't really cleaned it out before it was towed. Oh well.

It's supposed to rain here most of the weekend and the Jays are out of town so it will be a quiet weekend here I think.

Fiona

Made an appointment with the shop for Monday to have the damage assessed. Then they fax that estimate to the insurance. The insurance then sends them their OK for the repair, the shop orders the spare-parts (If required), arranges for a rental car for the days of the repair and give me a new appointment.
While they assess the damage I will do a testdrive with the new diesel. They don't have a convertible with it yet, but I'll try out the sedan or the station wagon with the same engine.

Peter,
I just ordered a headset from Amazon.de

We got our new Avalanche today! I still can't believe we traded it in! We bought the new one off of EBAY from a dealer in Omaha, NE. They delivered it today. We had the other one for 4 years and I REALLY never thought we would trade it in! This is Bubba with the old on the left...the bright red and the new on the right...the dark red. You are welcome to see more pictures of it and our trips at www.picturetrail.com/wvbubba

Now I'm waiting for more. As soon as there are twelve entries I will add them to The List.

Michelle,
congrats on the new car. I will do a testdrive tomorrow, so perhaps we'll trade in ours as well.

OkieDokie,
the planning for our next two vacations goes into the next phase now:
-This week I made the ressies for our seats in the highspeed-train connecting Frankfurt Airport and Cologne. This train does the 125 miles in less than an hour with just one stop enroute. The train travels at up to 200mph and runs so smooth and quite that you don't feel anything. From Cologne we will then fly to Vienna.
-Also this week I bought our tickets for the flight to Boston. We'll use IcelandAir via Reykjavik, which is the capital of Iceland. It will be less than four hours to Reykjavik, an hour layover, and then another five hours to Boston. On the way back we'll be about half an hour faster on each leg due to strong winds (the so-called jetstreams) giving us a mighty push. It will be the first time since 1988 that we're not using an American carrier, but a) they had an unbeatable price, and b) I guess it's OK for Mr & Mrs VIKING to fly IcelandAir :teeth:
Jennifer, Peter, Anja & I plan to travel to NYC on the Columbus Day weekend, which is 10/08-10/10. Additionally 10/10 is my 42nd birthday.
So, who's up for a meet in the NYC area?
We would love to have some native guides showing us the Big Apple. We would bring the Schnaps and some German treats. For a two-week-trip we'll have a lot of room in our luggage and will bring as much as allowed by American Customs Regulations - Or if Chris and Denise would check our luggage we could bring even more :rotfl2:

Actually, I was having (and still am) having problems getting my headset to work with Skype. I could hear you last night, but you couldn't hear me. I can record just fine using my PC's sound recorder so I know it's not my headset. I'm checking out the Skype forums to see what I can do. At least I'm halfway there, lol.

Cool we just have a plug in mic . very small and the sound comes thru the speakers.. Works great for Winotracy and I..

We are back from Washington and had a fantastic time. We rode the metro to our destinations, while there we did a tour in the DC Ducks, trolley tour and included a visit to the national cathedral.

Eric we took Scarlet, our 2002 VW TDI diesel beetle and went a little over 400 miles on 10 gallons of diesel. It averaged out a little over 41 mpg. Not bad for a car with over 63,000 miles on it.

We had a fantastic time with Art and Cathy and it was very nice to be able to leave all of the pressures and stresses behind. There was nothing like riding in a duck in the middle of the Potomac river while watching the planes take off and land at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

In Washington they were celebrating Mickey's 75th birthday with 75 6 feet tall Mickeys all decorated in different colors and activities. I have some pictures that I will try to post on line later this week. Mike

We loved seeing the 75 Mickeys when they were at WDW. Chris took the time to take a picture of each and every one of them. They are so unique!!

Those Ducks are great, Mike. We saw them in London, but didn't have time to ride one. They're on our list for the next time.
The mileage you get out of those Diesels is great: The convertible I'm interested in is rated at 48mpg - with 110hp!!! My present convertible (136hp) is rated at 31mpg and does 27mpg in real life. Throw in the 14 Euro-cents we save per litre and it really saves you a lot of Euros.

Amy & Renee,
those photographers must love you as you obviously are there every month to have your little ones' pictures taken ;)
Love the new pics!!!

Eric we love our diesel bug, just wish that it had more room. The new Jetta wagon TDI looks interesting. We will not be able to meet in NY in October as if the stars and the money spirits line up we may be in New Orleans then. We are supposed to go with Katie to Disney World the last week of September. Mike

No mail from the newbies yet :sad2:

Well, I haven't forgotten about you. I am planning to book tomorrow. Dh and I have had so much going on that there wasn't a good time to bring it up to him and I had to tread lightly and wait for a good moment. Now he has said ok, but I am waiting (waiting, waiting, not patiently) til tomorrow for the Disney card to start a new statement. I wonder if that $50 stateroom credit will be worth my having to be patient?

Once I am really booked, I'll be back to tell you about ourselves.
