Lily,
none of the comments in that video-clip were rated 'R' ;) It's from a German show, which is broadcast Saturday night from 815-10pm and so it has to be quite tame.

Michelle & Jeanne,
rule of thumb for sneakers used for working out is 160-200 hours til they're done. You can extend that time a bit by letting them rest between sessions, but that's it. Anja & I just bought 5 pairs of sneakers in New England: Anja got herself two pairs of Reeboks at $80 each and Nike Shox, which were only$50 as they were from the girls' department. Due to her weight of only 100lbs she fortunately can wear them. I got myself a pair of Reeboks and a pait of Nike Shox at $80 each. We rarely use a shoe more than twice a week and in between they 'rest'. When they're no longer fit for the gym, we wear them on the street - or much better: At WDW :earboy2:

Mike: when I see those shoes all I can think of is a cartoon character going BOING, BOING!

Did not like Nip/Tuck last night......I don't mind the surgical stuff, but when it involves amputations on dead bodies, I just can't watch. I spent a good portion of the show hiding behind my hands!

Lily: sounds like you can accompany Eric and Anja during their many laps around Deck 4. I'm happy to just power walk, but I will miss my oftimes partner, Jenn!

Jeanne,
perhaps they'll see the light and realize that the nicest islands aren't worth a dime when there aren't enough good friends aboard ;)

I'll try to contact the other Germs these days. They should be back from FLA soon. I hope they weren't hit too hard by Wilma.

We're having an American evening tonight: We're watching 'The Parent Trap'. We bought that DVD in New England, it's teh original movie from the 60ies starring Hailey Mills (Although the story is German as it is based on the book 'Das doppelte Lottchen' by Erich Kästner) and we're having our favourite American treat with it: Reese's Peanutbuttercups Miniatures -we brought a 44OZ bag from Boston :teeth:

Mike, those shoes are funky! All I could think of is how awful they would be to clean if I stepped in one of Daisy's Doodles! ICK!

I looked at 3 stores today, and none of them carry the higher series. I think I am going to have to try FootLocker or the like.

Well, Steve and I are officially sick! He even stayed home from work today...which NEVER happends! The last time he was sick enough to stay home, I took him to the ER and he was admitted!

Going to walk Daisy and then crash for the night!

Michele,
I took the liberty of looking up the shoes in your area. They come up with New Balance at Kelley's Men's Shop on W. Washington and Charleston Dept Store, also on W. Washington. Also, Saucony's can be found at Sport Mart on MacCorkle. Good luck. BTW, congratulations on your weight loss. I wish I had the discipline to walk the dogs every day. I know they miss it, and I sure could use the exercise. But I'm the queen of excuses!

I have a friend in Vero Beach, who lost power & phone service because of Wilma, but that's it. No damage, thank God. However, I have friends of a friend in West Palm who lost the roofs on two houses! They were getting one ready to list for sale, poor things.

Michelle, Hope you and Steve get well quick. Hey, can't he bring home the "good stuff" from the pharmacy?
Lily, Yes we are building our very first house. Been married 16 years so it's about time. :cool1: Met with the builder for the first time right before Christmas last year. It has been a long process. But the end is in sight. :3dglasses
Who wants to come and help me move? :rotfl:
Mike, Just LOVE those shoes!

Another 10 hour day! :charac2: Is it Friday yet?

Avé

Oh yeah, maybe not rated R, but I distinctly heard Scheiße once or twice I am sure. :rotfl: Not sure if someone with a really young one would want them running about shouting that greeting.

I am right there with you on the favorite being Reeses Peanutbutter cups! Fun movie too.

WDWCrazzyCunninghams, try looking up a local running store. If the shoes don't work often they will take them back after you have tried them. Even if you don't "run" they have shoes, or can place an order for you to try. Cute puppy baby.

Avé, that is a long process. Glad it is almost complete.

Lily,
we're not so sensitive about swearwords over here as it is the case in the USA ;) Same goes for nudity :earboy2: , but violence is heavily edited out of movies.

Speaking about shoes and problems: We've got many runners' shops over here which have a treadmill in the shop to let you test the shoes and many of them even do a video-analysis to check what you really need. It's also customary to bring your old running shoes when buying new ones. The expert at the shop checks the wear of the shoe to determine if this was the right one for you or if you need to get a different model.

Wow, Eric that is quite impressive what they do to sell shoes. In this country you are lucky to get someone to measure your feet.

I am also curious how you would know you have expired shoes. Wonder if it just the model number of the shoe. Norm just bought New Balance 715. I have some Reebok walking shoe. I have been able to buy the same sneaker the last 2 times which is really unusual. Eric I didn't realize that if you left them rest between workouts they would last longer. I guess I need to buy another pair. Both Norm and I have workout sneakers and then when they get worn out we use them for everyday.

I loved that video. It is like a version of Candid Camera that we had years ago in out country.

Pixie dust ******* to everyone with aches and pains. Gosh we are all falling apart.

Last day at work. Between work and the conference this is now day 12 without a break. I'm am to old to do that many days in a row. I start vacation on Friday, but will be busy doing laundry, packing and of course cleaning the house. Norm worked yesterday blowing more leaves and then mowing. Of course, by the time we get back you won't see the yard for all the leaves lying on the ground. And we have tons of acorns from the pin oak trees. I think when you have alot of acorns it means a hard winter is coming. Just what I hate cold and snow.

Better get to work so maybe I can get out early.

Nancy

Michelle & Steve - pixie dust coming your way.

Eric - amazing about shoe stores. Here too we are lucky to get someone to measure your feet let alone have any knowledge about the shoes.

Nancy - Have a great trip to Florida!

Need help/suggestions -- I know it's early but I've finished most of my Christmas shopping already so I'd thought I thought I'd ask suggestions. I have to get presents for our two secretaries (another lawyer and I share them) but haven't a clue what to get this year. The budget is about $100-$125 each so that's not a problem. I'd like something original but am having no luck coming up with ideas. The other lawyer just writes me a cheque and lets me do whatever so he's no help whatsoever. I've done an edible arrangement (these are like flowers but in fruit - really neat), gift certificates for dinner and a movie, body shop gift baskets in the past. Any suggestions??

Back to work for me.

Hi Fiona,

Here are some ideas,
Lottery tickets, pashmina shawl for cool days in the office, subscription to a DVD movie service like Netflix...

Sneaker Issues,

Ladies I found a brand of tennies about 4 years ago and I think they are fantastic and also a great price. The line is called RYKA, they are made for women only, so the fit is great. No break-in time needed with these tennies.

After sooo many ankle surgeries/injuries these shoes even have my ortho's blessing. I know that the shop QVC carries them, they average around $ 40.00 pr, I love them...

Bye, Kim

Fiona--- How about a day at the SPA for a gift? I can't believe you have your Christmas shopping nearly done. I just read on my mousesavers eletter that they are going to start to charge $2 for the name on the Ears. I got mine just in time. Thanks again for my Mickey outfit it was such a hit at the Sat dance.

Kim--- I had some of the RYKA sneakers in the past and they were very comfortable. I think the reason I stopped getting them was the store no longer carried them. I should hunt for another place to try them again.

Nancy

Kim--- I just noticed that you said the QVC has them so will check that out. I usually only watch and buy Quacker Factory Sweaters from the QVC, so need to browse that website more.

Nancy

We have a chain called 'Runner's Point' in Germany, which more or less exclusively caters to runners. They have a treadmill in every store. Then every large city has one or more privately owned stores which are usually run (Pordon the pun ;) ) by runners. So these guys know what they're talking about. Of course they're a bit more expensive than chains like footlocker or factory outlets, but usually they're worth it.
For shoes I'm willing to spend a lot, my joints are worth it. Anja and I average between about 250 work-out days per year and we've never been injured.
Same with clothes: We don't wear cotton when working out, we only wear functional fibers - Extremely light, doesn't absorb sweat, and let you breath. We've got tons of stuff from Reebok, Nike, Adidas, Venice Beach, etc. But in the last years I also bought lots of functional wear from Aldi's (Very inexpensive supermarket chain) as the usually at least twice a year sell that stuff. A shirt or pants is less than $10. Unfortunateöy Anja usually can't buy their stuff as they only have size S, but she needs XS - so she usually has to buy teh expensive stuff.

Nancy - read that in the newsletter too about charging $2 for the name on the ears so it's a good thing we got them when we did. Also thought about doing a spa day so I'm going to have to look into it.

Christmas shopping -- I've never been this organized before actually but I've been picking up stuff for my niece and nephews throughout the year. My SIL is getting hockey tickets and I've also picked some stuff for her, my brother and mother as well. I still need to get stuff for my DS but he'll just be some gift certificates and Jim and I are going to WDW in December so there's that. Sometimes it pays to have a small family!

Now I've got them purchased but I'll still probably be scrambling to get them wrapped Christmas Eve!

Back to work.

Fiona
