Thanks for all of the birthday wishes. I've forgotten what number this one is, but I'm fairly certain it's #39. As for the rest of my day, I've been out of the house since 8:00 a.m. this morning (it's 8:00 p.m. now), and it's now raining again. I did get a nice steak dinner out of the deal, so the day wasn't a total loss.

:)

Jim.

I finished The Kingdom Keepers this weekend...since the weather was so yucky it made for a perfect weekend to snuggle in and read! It's a good book, an easy read, it makes you "think" and not to give it away, but it does set itself up for a sequel! Which of course, I would get!

Jim, glad to hear the day wasn't a total loss! Is this the first time you have turned 39 or were there a few before?

time to do a bit more research on Universal! May our friends in Florida be safe and dry tonight. Sending /\ and :wizard: their way! Have a good night everyone!

Hi guys! Hope everyone is well. Happy 39th B-day to Jim. You look remarkable for your age! ;)

Kim/Bette - Keep your eyes open.

FYI ... :earseek: We had SNOW this morning. On the grass and a little on the road BUT had to clear off the windshield and back window :earseek:

bbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...it's cold, but no snow here! :cold: It's just a yucky rainy sort of day. Or as Pooh would say, it's blustery. :umbrella: Daisy and I got a mile in before the rain really hit. and, by the way, the scales are telling me that I have lost 13 pounds since I started walking the dog! Daisy has been with us 11 weeks, so that's about a pound a week. Slow and steady wins the race! (I HOPE!) Unfortunetly, that is just a drop in the bucket! I still have a LONG way to go!

Off to get ready for the rest of the day! I have a Halloween party to go to at 10 and an appt with the podiatrist at 1...I think I have developed heel spurs! It hurts to step down, so I have started to walk different and that is causing the muscles in my leg to hurt! I'm a MESS!!! As I told Steve, it's Hell getting old!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Rosemary,
coincidentally Peter sent me the same yesterday - it's from a German TV-show which is our equivalent to Candid Camera. Thanks a lot any way :wave2:

Cathy,
over here we're having a 'heatwave': Temps soared to the sixties today and are even expect to get well into the seventies for the rest of the week  :cool1: With blue skies, which will come in right in time as the Airbus 380 will come to Frankfurt this weekend for its first visit to a regular airport. They'll do some test on how to handle an aircraft carrying up to 850 people. They will check out the new catering trucks especially built for it, airbridges, etc. It will also be a big fest for eveyone. FraPort (The company running the airport) will provide 120 free shuttlebuses to transport people from the main terminal to the best viewing spots, but I guess we'll watch it either at home or at the gym while running some miles. It will touch down in Frankfurt around 9am and we may be at the gym running as we don't have time on Friday.
In spite of the good weather I ordered my winter tyres today: €830 for a set of four on nice alloy rims :earseek: , but as I hate driving around with ugly wheels for the winter this is what I have to pay for it.

Happy Belated Birthday wishes to Jim :bday:

The conference was a huge success. There was no major screwup the entire weekend. We had 240 attendees the largest ever for the Northeast Regional Conference and 54 vendors stands. We got alot of positve responses on our program some felt it was even better than the National conference last year. Since the NE region covers NJ, NY, and PA, I think we had a good attendence because of our central location. The longest drive to get there would have been a little over 4 hours. Plus we were able to get some big name speakers because of our close location to the airport and corporate sponsorship. The Sat night entertainment with the Hubcaps was so good. The Hubcaps not only sang those oldies but goodies but dressed for the songs. We saw Sonny and Cher, Mick Jagger, Little Richard, James Brown, Janice Joplin and so many others. Nearly 70% of the people were up dancing. Sort of like High School when the girls danced with the other girls since the guys wouldn't dance. In this case since 95% of us were women you had no choise. We were jitterbugging and strolling all night long. However, even if you didn't get up to dance you could still enjoy their showmanship. Over 50% of the people dressed up 50 style, poodle skirts were everywhere anlong with black leather. My Mickey Mouse Club outfit was a hit and the only one there. Even the nun in our group commented that she had a great time Sat night.
Someone asked what my presentations were so for the nurses in our group her is a brief wrapup. Poster was Success of Back to Basics: A program to prevent pressure ulcers, I developed a program to re educate the nursing on all those basic nursing care we learned in Nursing 101 (correct support surfaces, turning, and nutrition) and after we reeducated we had a decrease in Hospital acquired pressure ulcers from 6% to 3%. My lecture was "Surviving Enterocutaneous Fistula Care" Which in my job is a really big challenge. Both went over very well. I was like on high gear for 3 days and now experiencing the post conference let down.

I had the epidural thursday which helped me to get through the entire thing. The pain is like 70% better, I can now sleep through the night better and instead of taking Tylenol every 4 hrs can go 5-6hrs between doses. I should be ok to fly and do WDW.

Norm has most of his stuff packed to go. I am off Friday so will be doing it at the last minute.

Yesterday was wild at work, today seems better. Talk to everyone later.

Nancy ::MinnieMo

Congrats on your success, Nancy :wave2:
And enjoy WDW :earsboy:

Rosemary: That was so funny, I almost p**d my pants! I'm sending it to all my kids!

Nancy: glad to hear you're feeling better and that the conference was a success. The party sounds like a blast.

Michelle: Sorry about your aches and pains, but that's GREAT about the weight loss!

Thanks Jeanne. the verdict is, it's not a heel spur, although I have the start of one, he said it is called plantarfasciitis. A tendonitis! Motrin, Ice and Stretching will take care it. HOWEVER, he was looking at my tennis shoes, my NEW tennis shoes and he tells me they are worn out and I need a new pair! Excuse me? He went on to say that the EVA they use in tennies has an experation date and that they could have been expired before I even bought them! Great! I have just spent $30 on a pair of shoes I didn't even get to wear a month! He recommended New Balance 815 or 925....or anything over 800, but those specifically. I guess I'll be buying new shoes tomorrow. He then went on to say that New Balance redisigned the EVA that they use and it doesn't deteriorate as the others do.

Nancy, congrats on the confrence! Glad it all went well! Have fun at the House of Mouse!

I think it's time to put a fire in the fireplace! It's just so cold and wet, it gets to your bones! Colton brought home a head cold to share, seems like Connor is the only one not sniffling and coughing. A fire and a blanket sounds good about now!

Michelle--Having had both heel spurs and plantar fasciitis, the pain is the same along with the treatment. Both times I needed to have steroid injections to get rid of the pain. I will say that it inspired me to lose weight and that seemed to correct the problem. Extra pixie dust your way. From all the walking I do at the gym, I wear my $60 sneakers out fast. I know Eric mentioned before how many sneakers he goes through. I have to look what ones I currently have. Congratulations on your weight loss.

I was over at Cruise Critic website and found some pictures of the destruction in Cozumel. Both docks have been destroyed. Here is a link to some pictures

We talked about Chankanaab Park and possibly going there on a group excursion. Apparently it is gone. Can't find any information about the dolphins that we there.

Of course our cruise is a year away so many things should be back and operating by next Oct.

Nancy

Michelle: so how can you tell if a shoe is "expired"?

We turned the fireplace on last night, but for us it's just the flick of a switch! (gas logs) Right now it's very chilly in my office, so I checked the thermastat it's 66 degrees in the house! (about 20 degrees for Eric) I'm tempted to turn on the furnace, but I hate to do it before November!

Jeanne, that is a GOOD question! I'll ask him at my follow up next week. I turned the shoe over, but didn't see a date! :rotfl:

Nancy, those are some incredible photos! Makes me thankful for where I live. Although, this cold makes me yearn for the warmer weather!

Thanks to all for the pixie dust! These days I just feel like I am falling apart!

EDIT: Does anyone remember what the address is for the smilie generator? Seems mine is messed up! THANKS!

Michele,
I walked the 3-day Breast Cancer walk in 2002. I bought the New Balance 765's, and I'm still using them! I'm sure the 815's and 925's are going to feel great. Just be prepared to spend over $80. The 2nd pair I used in the walk was from Asics. These are very comfortable also.

I turned on my furnace, and it made such a loud cracking noise--it scared the dog! :earseek: So I called the landlady (who's useless, by the way--never gets to fixing ANYTHING) and told her I can't live here--it's dangerous. She was out of town & had to call someone on an emergency basis. He came in & told her he's getting us a new furnace. (I'm surprised she didn't argue the point, or veto it, or something.) Now the house is nice & toasty.

Marianne

Michelle - I'd be curious too about the expiry date for shoes. Didn't realize they had one!

Raining here again today -- it's getting colder and it's rained since Saturday. Yuck -- but at least it's not SNOW!!

Hi Cathy! Glad you stopped by. Hope you and Art are doing well.
Happy Birthday to Jim! Glad you got a steak. :Pinkbounc Now don't forget to floss. :teeth:
Nancy, glad your conference went well. Loved your topic. Lots of hospital nurses forget about the basics. Especially when hospital stays are usually much shorter then they use to be.
All is well and weather is beautiful here in NW FL. No A/C needed, but haven't turned on the heat yet. Wilma hit far south of here.
Rosemary, Loved the video. Now we need Eric to translate what the folks were saying. Well, maybe not. :rotfl:

Busy at work as usual. 20 hours in the last 2 days. :bitelip: House is coming along. Some of the appliances were delivered today, but not installed yet. BIL installed my tile floor this past weekend. It looks great! He did a fantastic job! :cheer2: Still waiting for sink instillation (bathes and kitchen), paint, carpet, landscaping, shower glass instillation, doorknobs, and hardware. But things are looking good.

Michelle, Got to look for the experation date. :confused3 Sounds like a racket to me. But, good supportive shoes are important to us full figured gals. :p

Later, Avé

Nancy -- Glad you are feeling so much better and that the conference went well. Also happy to see that you addressed the problem of decubiti (pressure sores for the non-medical people). My mom got a terrible one on her heel when she had her total hip done about 5 or 6 years ago. Took 6 months for it to heal with home health nurses out every day for a while (including Christmas Day) for dressing changes. She almost missed our daughter's wedding. She was in a rehab owned by our hospital and I stupidly assumed that they were giving good care (such as removing and reapplying TED's every day). Wrong!!!

Michele -- I, too, have suffered from plantar fasciitis. Did the steroid injections, etc., but the only thing that finally helped me was custom made orthotics (casting my feet to make them). I have heard that New Balance shoes are great for foot problems, and my friend's podiatrist just told her that Saucony shoes are even better. Don't see them around much. I would also love to know how you know when your shoes are expired. :confused3

Ave' - Great that Wilma did not cause you any problems. Called my SIL & BIL in Vero Beach last night, and they did not have power. Were cooking dinner on the grill in the dark. They lost their power for 10 days for one of the 2004 hurricanes, and they are sure hoping it will come back sooner this time. I can imagine how anxious you must be to get into your beatiful new house -- won't be long now!

Marianne -- A new furnace - WOW!

OMG! That link was so funny! I had the house laughing. Thanks for the de-stressing time. I don't think you want to translate if your kids are young. Although the comments were pretty consistent and probably what we would all be saying if we got to play like that.

Rainy here, no "s" stuff yet. Whew.

Michelle, congrats! You are an athlete! Yes you will be spending quite a bit more on those shoes, unless you can locate them online on sale somewhere. I hope you will find relief soon. Congrats on your weight loss! Is that smileycentral.com that you are trying to get?

Avé, sounds like house building or remodeling? Good that it is all going well.

Those Coz pics are amazing. DH has a friend at work who is/was there vacationing. He has not heard from them yet.

I don't know about "expired" shoes, but perhaps maybe what was meant is that they are "older" technology and with new technoligy they are no longer being made. The newer styles have better cushioning and support I'm thinking.

I walked out of my shoes, I've been logging the miles I put on this year. I have trekked 786 miles since coming back from the WDW half marathon this January. Got a new pair of shoes, but I am not exactly sure that they will be my happy shoes or not. I have "itis" too. Just got back from the ortho and was given the news. The good thing is that I can continue walking. I just need to add some cushioning in the heel area to ease my achilles tendon.

Happy day everyone!

Michele, I have New Balance 925's to replace these I used to call them my high heel sneakers. Shoes I had the velcro cloudwalkers. Mike
