Must be a week for dentists...I had a toothache since Good Friday and of course, my dentist wasn't back until today (Monday) --whole left side of my face was killing me on Saturday and by Easter Sunday, when I got up for Mass, I looked like a chipmunk that was storing nuts in his cheeks for the winter--my face was all swollen and my left eye was just a slit--I planned on going into work today and got up at 6:00 a.m. and took one look at myself and thought "no way"--I'm sure my boss wasn't too thrilled with me since we have several large projects that we are working on but oh well. I called my dentist (who is actually 1/2 block from my house) and they told me to come right over--ended up having an abcess in my wisdom tooth and got a 2:00 appointment and had it pulled--now I just look like a chipmunk who has bruising on the cheek! Timing couldn't be better since Sarah receives Confirmation on Tuesday night and I look and feel like I did a few rounds with a fighter--people will think that I was beat up!!

Bette...hope you had a great birthday..sorry we missed it and hope you're feeling better.

Eric..how did the root canal go? The extraction was really painless...they put a mask with mist over my nose and started the IV and I was totally relaxed...next thing I knew the doctor walked out and it was over...didn't even realize that he had pulled it!! But now I am feeling the pain!! I was going to go into work on Tuesday but the oral surgeon suggested that I take the day and rest and my boss thought that it was a good idea since I stopped at the hospital to pick up my Rx and he saw my face and I gave him my excuse. Think that I'll stay in bed and watch movies!!

Do you get to dive a lot or iwould it be better to just snorkel? I know we have to take quite a few classes, so we have to get started soon, and was looking for some opinions from those who know or know those who would! Also, has anyone seen anything on excursions while in Antiqua? Thanks, Denise

Denise-

Hey, we're getting certified in May and doing our open water in June in Utah. Since we will be diving newbies, I was a bit leary of the DCL sponsored dive(sounds a bit deep for me!), but I found a shore dive at www.cokidive.com in St Thomas. I did a bit of research, and most have said good things. We will be snorkling in Antigua (we booked the Eco-tour on our own.) Anyway, our first "real dive" will be at Epcot Dive Quest when we first get to WDW before our 9/25 cruise....I can't wait!!!!

The PADI scuba classes for us here in Colorado consist of a full weekend (classroom and pool work), then a two day open water certification. We are doing the open water in Utah because I can't imagine what diving in a murky Colorado city "lake" would be like. Scary things...I used to be a boat ranger at one of the state parks here....people would release their exotic fresh water fish and other creepy things in the resevior. Icky.

Check out www.cokidive.com They also have a scuba dive for those not certified.

Jill

Less then 25 weeks to go everyone!!!

I hope everyone had a happy Easter/Passover.

Kids go back to school tomorrow:bounce: :teeth:

One of the things I liked very much about the dive trip we went on was that there was 1 "master diver" for 3 divers on our boat. Compare this to 1 "master diver" per 12 divers on the DCL tours. Since 2 of our divers were newbies, this was an important factor.
That dive/snorkel trip in Cozumel was the highlight of our vacation. We hope to find one like it this year.

Mary Jo...I hope you are feeling better soon. Eric...good luck tomorrow. I will be seeing my dentist next week

Eric, lots of stuff going on with the "Hunley" this week. They are getting ready for a formal burial for the crew. It will very likley be the last authentic Conferderate burial.

Received the package today Mary Jo. Thanks a ton. It rained here all day long. My son has already had to cut the lawn! Just needs weed eating if it quits raining long enough.

Kathy and I are planning on going to Houston, TX next month. We will be celebrating Katie's second birthday with her other grandparents.

Good luck with the conformation on Tuesday night Sarah! Hope that the jaw pain gets better. Mike

Jill,
this looks great!!! We did our PADI Open Water last year in Florida and will do a some dives in Crystal River on 09/12 and 09/13/04, and hopefully also in PCB with Mark. Another couple of dives in St T would be great.
BTW, there's also a nice snorkeling opportunity in WDW at Typhoon Lagoon.

Mary & Ave' and Fridayfun,
please check it out too.
The cost seems to be reasonable and we consider diving there. What about you?

Root canal went fine - so far!!
The problem was that it was under a crown. So he had to drill through the crown., because he wanted to avoid removing the crown. This left him with a small opening to work in, but he managed it. My dentist is great, fortunately he's right now getting a special degree for root canals. He was excited because he could use the work on my tooth for his dissertation papers. Although he is well over fifty and really experienced, he never stops learning.
Now we'll have to wait for two weeks and then -hopefully- he can remove the pins he put there and close everything permanently.
But that's fine with me as I wanted to lose another 10 pounds before the next race ;)
BTW, no aenastesia (Spelling?) for the whole 90 minutes, but it was OK. Especially as I had to drive to work after the treatment.

Hi Guys, Kim here...

Updates on bettemom, She actually is doing pretty well and listening to what she can and can't do fairly well, as long as you do not turn your back on her. Her Physical therapist came to the house yesterday and her pelvis and hip joints have stayed in place and not popped out again so that is looking good. Her visiting Nurse comes later this week and hopefully her news will be good also...She will still be on activity limitations for a few more weeks but things are improving. She just needs to get strength back, she tires out pretty quickly still...

Saturday I started stripping all the old clapboards from the driveway side of the house spend most all the day working outside and had about 75 % stripped.
Sunday my brother joined me and we finished stripping the rest of the wood and installing the Tyvek house wrap. Early afternoon a couple friends joined us to help with the Tyvek for the 2nd floor, I can't do ladders since my ankle fusion...

My brother Kevin had positioned his ladder climbed up around 12-14 feet and BOOM !!! the laddder slid right down the house and he fell to the driveway asphalt SPLAT !!.. So again the ambulance comes off we go to the hospital, mom is still supposed to be in bed, ( NOT) after we find out that Kevin did not break his neck, she goes home with one of our friends and then Mark( another friend) stays at the hospital with me. Kevin had CAT scans, and tons of x rays, and had to have his LEFT palm sewn up, it hit the pavement and exploded into a jagged tear, so after about 6 hours in hospital, we brought him back home with stitches, a black eye, half his face swollen to a blimp, a very strained back, sore ribs and a broken elbow ( his RIGHT elbow of course) ... All in all he is so lucky to be alive !!!

So guys nothing dull around here, I am taking a couple days off from the lab and working from home so I can assist in the infirmary at the McBride home...

Hopefully we will be back to normal fairly soon, more than anything we are counting the days till the cruise !!!

Bye, Kim

P.S. Hope everyone else is doing fine with Dentist problems, and we will get back to normal postings soon...

*****AVE, I am sending you a personal E-mail later today ,

Bye, Kim *****

Eric, this dive/snorkel thing looks very good. The price is right! We could bring our own gear and do our own thing while the divers dive!If we bring our own stuff, then transportation and chair rental is the only cost. Probably under $100 for my whole family to spend the day there!:bounce: Also we could come and go as we like!

KIM!!! What a month your family is having!:earseek: So glad your brother is going to be OK. Painting is a dangerous occupation. I always worry when DH has to go up a 40foot ladder. I am MUCH happier when he works inside on a step stool!!

Kim - so glad your brother is ok. He is very lucky that his injuries weren't worse.

Tell your mom we said hi and hope she is feeling better.

Renee'

Kim -- What horrible back luck your family is having! Best wishes to your mom and brother in their recoveries.

Hope the dental emergency twins are doing well, also. Eric -- no anesthesia for that root canal repair?? You must have a very high pain tolerance or else you have a truly painless dentist.

Mary Jo -- hope you are feeling (and looking) much better for the confirmation tonight.

Kim,
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* to your brother and to Bette.
As a member of our company's security council I learned during a seminar that more people in Germany get killed by ladder-accidents than by any other professionally used appliance. We have very strict rules about most ladders only to be used by two people: One on the ladder, the second holding the ladder or securing the first guy with a rope like a mountaneer. Unfortunately many -if not most- workers consider speed more important than safety and so the numbers aren't changing :(

CD-recipients so far:
-JeanneG
-Renee
-Fiona

This means: 7 more are left.

Mary, Ave', Jill & Denise,
I just told Anja on the phone about the dive-excursion on St. Thomas and she would like to do it. Let's get everyone together and then can make a reservation.

Kim -- pixie dust to your brother and mother. What a hospital ward you must be running now.

Mary Jo -- pixie dust to you on the wisdom tooth. IV's are great for dental surgery!!

Eric - glad the root canal went well. Except for the tooth extraction I rarely get freezing. Had the pulptomy (spelling?) in January without any freezing as well as most fillings no freezing. I have a great dentist. Tooth extractions though I want to go right under and not be aware of anything!:p

Everyone else good luck with your dentists. It's all happening now so that everyone will be healthy on the cruise.

Booked a physio appt for my DS for Thursday. Luckily it's covered under my work benefits because it's not cheap. $75 for the first visit and $50 for each thereafter. DS is anxious to get started because he's now realizing that when the dr. said it would probably be a month before he was feeling better he wasn't kidding. Back to school today so we'll see how that goes with the crutches etc.

Back to work for me. Raining here today -- and there was white stuff on the cars this morning. Yuck!

Fiona

Hi Eric, I am having stop blocks put into the driveway so no ladder can slip again. We should have safety laws here, but in New Hampshire they allow NO ONE to tell them waht to do... Not such a good idea...

Can we also get on the CD list ??

Thanks, Kim

Mary, Ave', Jill & Denise,

You're on the CD-List, Kim.

Fiona,
Canadians were declared 'Bad Guys' today in the European media: Canadian authorities allowed 350,000 seals being hunted.
We got lots of PETA people in the media and so it made the headlines.
Here's a little consolation concerning tooth extraxtions: There won't be more than 32 :teeth: :jester:

Thanks for the well wishes everyone....cheek and gum are still a little sore but the cheek doesn't look too bad...actually am enjoying my day home today...just the dog and I and I have been a real queen..of course, I had to take Sarah to school at 7:30 since she just can't take the bus and then I came home and Precious and I went back to bed and slept until 10:00 a.m.!! Have been watching tv and movies all day but back to work reality tomorrow!!

Pixie dust to Kevin and Bette...it was good talking to both of you (Kim and Bette)at the Henniker Branch of the Concord Hospital!! You guys definitely have to get out from under the dark cloud!!
Just remember to take it easy Bette especially if you feel good--sometimes, we tend to feel better and over do it. We definitely have to get together before the cruise--I will send you info on timeshare we got in NH so we will definitely get together for dinner or something and maybe we could hook up with Peter and Jenn.

Fiona...hope your son's ankle heals and he is back to his old self soon...I broke my ankle about 10 years ago at of all places "The Land of Make Believe" in New Jersey....you should have heard my boss when I told him where I broke it at!!

two foxes...I did get your email at work and we will definitely try and hook up while we are in Colorado--if your schedule permits, we could drive to meet you for either lunch or dinner. I will email you when I get back to work. Mary Jo

Eric -- You might be interested to know that one of the nurses here has a husband who is an attorney for a ladder company, and he deals entirely with ladder accident cases. I could harldy believe it when I heard it -- a ladder lawyer -- but I guess ladder accidents are really big time. I suppose a lot of people who have the accidents try to blame the company when they are actually careless in using the ladders. My son is a painter and I hate it when he goes up on ladders, especially since he is a rather clumsy person.

Jeanne,
American lawsuits are very often laughed about over here ;)
Some of them are so ridiculous, that often people think it is a hoax, but after checking it out you usually find that it is true
 Working for an American company in the aviation-business I know, that we are paying an arm and a leg for insurance due to this fact.

MaryJo,
you're on the CD-List - 5 more available!!

I just wrote to the Coki Beach Dive Club asking the following questions:
-How large a group can you handle ?
-How many divers, respectively snorkerlers will a guide take care of?
-Are there any group rebates available?
-What happens to our deposit, if the ship can't make it to St Thomas due to a hurricane?
-How much is transportation back to ship/shopping district?
-How long in advance do you need our reservation?

I told them that we'll be about 10 divers and 10 snorkelers, but hinted that we may well be more. I'll keep everyone posted.

MaryJo ... :earseek: :earseek: I was going to call you at home but don't want to bother you, especialy when you are tryiing to get some sleep and peace. Wish Sarah good luck at her Confirmation and take care ... maybe wear a little button that says, "No,just a wisdon tooth!" Good luck with that. BTW, got your package and still reading it over - thanks loads.

Kim ... What's up with that! I checked with the weather up there ard saw that big black cloud over your house. Geez, tell everyone to be careful. Give your brother and Mom a hug for us - but not too hard so as to cause another bruise.

Fiona ... How's the son's ankle? How's Jim doing?

My next stop is more blood work to see if my CRP and uric acid levels are better and then to the cardiologist ... keep putting that thought in the back of my mind.

No offense to all the "medical professionals" but, enough already.

Back to reality ... work calls.

Eric-
Thanks for getting with Coki Dive....let us know what they say! It seems to be very beginner friendly at a great price.

Mary Jo-
I was wondering if that got to you! Let me know what your plans are....I am sure I can work it out to meet you guys.
