jeanniec...Bean Story: Growing up we had 3 kinds of beans/peas: green (english) peas, brown beans, and lima beans. I hated lima beans! Whenever any of us kids started acting up, or refused to eat our dinner my mother would say she was going to call the "bean farm" and have them come and get us. At the Bean Farm you had to work all day in the fields, picking lima beans, and you got one meal a day. And it consisted of just one item...you guessed it ....lima beans.
I was in my late 20's before I ever ate lima beans of my own free will. And I would never eat them on a cruise! LOL

Going to see Haunted Mansion tonight.:earseek:

jeanneg: Sorry to hear that you've got a touch of the "cocktail flu". Hope you're feeling better soon.:smooth:

Later, Ave'

I hope everyone had a nice New Years!
I sort of "mixed" our northern and southern traditions. I cooked a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Since we were not home for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, I wanted to cook my families favorites at least once during the holidays.
BUT...I did make a BIG pot of Collard Greens (with pig tails!!!) This is my sister-in-law's recipe and the tails really make a difference. I never thought I would get use to the "southern style" of cooking (fat back, pig parts, ect)but I must say, I really like collard greens!

I did miss TwinAve's husbands blackeyed peas with corn bread. He makes the BEST and no matter how I try, I can't seem to make it come out like his!

Work tomorrow then another 2 days off! I could get use to these 2 and 3 day work weeks!

I spent the day cooking and watching Animal Cops, and Clean Sweep! Yup...TOTAL SLUG DAY!I don't get to spend a day doing almost nothing very often, so it was nice.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE

In my area, the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch dinner for New Years is Pork and Sauerkrout. Now that is not a meal that you want if you have a hangover.

I acutally stayed awake to see the New Year come in. Usually I am asleep on the sofa. Norm and I stayed home, but both my son's were out and never came back until this afternoon. Better to have them stay with their friends than trying to drive home.

Back to work for me tomorrow. I agree with Mary, I could get use to this work schedule.

Tomorrow will be 9 months and counting.

Mike and I stayed home and had a quiet night. We watched the big ball drop in NewYork and even though it was an hour early for us, we wished each other "Happy New Year" and a happy anniversary because it is the first of the month. Then I went to bed. I read for a little while and then I heard some firecrackers go off and went to sleep. BORING...

Tonight I am at work making the BIG money (double time and a half) for 12 beautiful hours. Love it. We have 4 babies and I have the two sickest but they are really fine.

Katie is sick with the flu or a really bad cold. She is coughing and wheezing. I asked Stacey if she had taken her to the doctor but she hasn't because she said that the doctor wouldn't do anything for a cold. She is right but Katie sounded really congested. She is getting tylenol, round the clock and sleeps with the vaporizer on. I am just a grandmother, what do I know?

I am off the weekend and can get done on some serious sewing I started. Ya hoo! Hope everyone has a great New Year. Can't wait to see everyone in the spring. Kathy

OK, while you guys argue who's older and who's wiser, it's the first day of the New Year and all I am is friggin' WASTED! Damn that champagne last night......if anyone so much as mentions a conch cooler, I'm gonna hurl......Happy New Year everyone, I'll start whatver it is I'm starting -- tomorrow!

Jeanne,
you just have to do it like we did: We ran 8 miles on New Year's Eve and started the year with a 4 mile run and an hour of Pump (Weightlifting class with music). But we only had two cocktails each during the evening - Although the second round was quite stiff: The restaurant ran out of cocktail glasses and so they served us Pina Coladas in half-litre beerglasses :hyper: at the regular price:Pinkbounc

Happy New Year everyone! Haven't posted in a while as I've been busy doing almost nothing!! Took Christmas Eve off work, worked December 29th and am off til Jan 5th. Nothing much was happening and everything else can be dealt with on Monday.

Ave -- had to laugh about the lima beans. It is one of the few foods that I absolutely hate. Jim laughs at me because I pick them out of the frozen veggies before they are cooked! They are just yuck!

Weather here has been great actually. No snow on the ground and the temperatures have been quite warm -- relatively speaking. Haven't had to wear mitts and a hat yet this winter but I know that the bad weather will be coming at some point.

Must go and do some errands while the stores are open. Also have to wake up DS as his father is coming to take him paintballing -- a sport/game I don't get but men seem to love!

Take care everyone. Nine months to go!!!

Fiona

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

I decided to take today off and just spend the day all alone with Haley. Not sure if we're doing anything yet or if we'll just hang out here. It doesn't look too good outside so it will probably a day inside of playing with all her new toys :teeth:

Yippee 9 months to go!!!!! Boy I can't wait for this.

Mary -- pig "tails"??? That sounds really disgusting, but then as I said before, I am a very picky eater and tails would definitely not be anything that I would eat. I won't even do any kind of greens (seems like weeds to me). And -- I detest grits (had one teaspoonful once) and never again! Poor Sam -- he will eat just about anything as will our son, but they pretty much have to put up with my weird appetite unless we are eating out. My daughter is more like me, but even worse. There are only a few things that she will eat, and her son is the "picky-est" of all.

I see that we seem to have an interest in Animal Cops/Animal Precinct in common. It was a marathon yesterday, wasn't it? I was cleaning closets and drawers and watching Animal Planet yesterday, too. I am addicted to the humane society rescue programs, altho they are so sad sometimes that I cannot watch some parts of them. I always love the happy endings when the animals are adopted into loving homes. Unfortunately, not all the endings are happy. I had seen most of the programs but enjoyed a second viewing. I like the New York stories the best.

Nine months from today!!! Wow!!!

Our activities were not so different afterall.......I skipped the run but did several hours of 'pump" instead.....I lifted my oh-so-heavy glass many, many times and pumped my body full of the bad stuff!

I am happy to report I am feeling better now. We saw Return of the Ring yesterday and I didn't get rid of my headache until halfway through the movie. It was very good but sooooo long.
OK, so the cruise is 9 mos. away....that should be plenty of time to get in some sort of shape (wishful thinking). As we all know, resolutions don't actually begin until the first Monday of the New Year!!!!!!

Yes, pig tails! But we don't eat them...they are cooked with the greens to "flavor" them (ok...they add FAT to them!).

I also like the NY Animal Cops, but the new one in Miami looks like it will be good also. My brother adopted a puppy from the Manhattan ASPCA. She was abused then abandoned. She is now a BIG German Shepard and she is still very skittish.

One of the docs at work told me he bought his wife a trip to the Cayman Islands for Christmas. He dives and I enjoyed teasing him about me going to the Caymans last year. I am going to bring him the video of our Captain Marvin's StingRay tour. Another of the docs is booking the 7 night Western next June and I have already given him the "Navigators" from our last trip. I feel like the resident travel agent!

Renee...have a wonderful day off with your DD!

That's what we we call 'The one-armed clean-and-jerk' in Germany, we do it in two different classes: half a liter and one liter
But your hangover must have been bad anyway, because not the 'Ring' returned, but the 'King :teeth: If the Ring had returned, that wouldn't have been a happy ending, would it?
I saw the movie the monday before Xmas and I loved it, I can't wait for the extended version on DVD which will be available sometime in August.

We are going to Disney!!!!

Mark booked a 3 night stay at the All Star Sport of our Anniversary. (Feb 14th...15 years) We leave here on 2/12 after work/school. Spend Fri and Sat in the parks, then drive home on Sun. I am so excited!
I wanted to meet Rellingtwin in Hilton Head, but DH loves the parks. And since I went to HH the last 2 years on our anniversary(without him) I had to give in. LOL

My foster cat is missing. We can't find her anywhere. She is so timid, it's hard to see her wandering off very far.
:(

Got to go make Lost Kitty signs.

Later, Ave'

Ha,ha....ring, king, whatever.....but that would explain why the girl at the box office looked at me kinda funny when I asked for 3 tickets to "Return of the Ring" (either that, or the fact I was still slurring my words!)
Ave: Congrats on your upcoming trip to WDW. I'm so sorry about your cat....hopefully, she'll find her way back home.

Ave,
sorry about your kitty :( , but congrats for going to WDW.

I just booked air & hotel for our upcoming London-trip using the internet, which saved us about €500 ($625) compared to the regular travel agencies :hyper: , but I guess Anja will spend that -or more- shopping for hip clothes :earseek:

Ave' - So sorry about your kitty. We have 5 cats -- 4 of them were "orphans of the storm". I know how you feel. Hopefully she is back by now. Our cats are all house cats and Sam's favorite (Gizmo) got out somehow one day. We drove all over looking for him, thought he was gone and then he turned up several hours later. We were so happy. One of the nurses that I work with was watching her son's two dogs while they went to her daughter-in-law's home in Kansas for Christmas. Unfortunately, Rocco (the Jack Russell terrier) dug under their backyard fence and they have been looking for him for two days now. I haven't talked to her today, but hope that Rocco will turn up, too.

I am so happy for you that you are going to "the happiest place on earth soon for your anniversary. What a wonderful place to celebrate as you well know. We are not going back to WDW until the first week in May and I really need a Disney fix. It will be 7 months between our last visit and May -- longer than we usually stay away.

Once again, good luck with the kitty and congratulations on your anniversary trip.

Thanks for all the good thoughts about my cat. But we found her. She was hit by a car. One of our nieghbors saw it happen, but he didn't know it was our cat. He showed DH the body and Mark brought her home. DD and DS are very upset. And of course I now have to write a letter to her owner, who is in Bahrain.

That is so sad. I'm so sorry to hear that this happened. :(

Hope that everyone is having a nice weekend. Our January thaw has come early this year. Yesterday it was 70 degrees here.

We are up to 40 patients now and it is quite a job trying to see them all along with Kathy's real job.

Ave sorry about the cat. I have a 18 year old orange tabby that you are welcome to.:wave2:

Our Tennessee Titans beat the Baltimore Ravens yesterday. What a game.:bounce: Mike
