Gas prices in FL are still well below $2, at least for now.

Funny crime story from Panama City Beach: About 1 mile from my house is a very popular seafood resturant. One night (early evening) a few summers ago, a man used a gun to carjack a car in the resturant parking lot. The was a Sheriff's officer in the resturant at the time. The women who owned the car alerted the officer, he ran after the car, and fired at the fleeing car. But the driver left the scene. Well, the bullet hit a tire, and the guy pulled over in my nieghberhood. He's standing next to the car, with a flat, and some nice people come out of thier house and help him fix it. Meanwhile there are cops ALL OVER the place looking for this guy. By the time the tire is fixed, the cops figured he's long gone, or hiding. He gets into the car and proceeds north, heading out of town. But now he runs out of gas. You guessed it, another nice couple stop to bring him to the gas station. But while they're gone, the cops spot the car on the side of the road. He left the gun in the car. They are waiting for him when he returns with the gas. Bad guy caught, despite the best intentions of some mighty nice southerners.

PS Lunch group is now up to 35!:smooth:

Great story, Avé! Just another reminder, crime doesn't pay! :sad2:

I'm not quite sure what the gas prices are here, because my Volkwagen Beetle runs on Diesel. That's about $1.85--and it doesn't fluctuate as often as gasoline. I do know that Chicago is MUCH higher than the far suburbs.

Good news! We found a home for a 10 1/2 yr old Black Lab today. We're so excited, because the previous owners were going to put him down (llllooonnnnggg story!). If we hadn't found someone, we would have kept him ourselves--he has the sweetest disposition! So everyone wish Duke happiness in his new home with Tina & Jerry!

Marianne

YES! TINA AND JERRY!!!!!!

Hope Duke will do you proud!

Zapp, no need for long story. You did good! Not always easy.

Marianne,
you just scored big points with Anja: She's a labrador-lover!!
And you're not the only Diesel-Beetle driver in our group: Mike & Kathy (Papa) have one too, she's called 'Scarlett'. And Dave (CheesePlease) has a Beetle with the 1.8-Turbo.
Talking about diesel: We're also considering a diesel for our next car, but have to check it out very thorougly before ordering it. We're convertible fans and a diesel-engine is 'acoustically challenging'. The VW-diesel available in the Droptop Beetle i.e. is far too loud for open cruising. And we want one with a retractable hardtop like we have it now anyway. As we have to parke at the curb we prefer this to a ragtop.
the difference at the pump between diesel and premium is €.30 per litre. Add the better mileage and and it can be worth to pay the additional bucks for the diesel-engine - Usually an the range of €1500. The extended cruising range in excess of 600miles before having to refill is aslo a big advantage.
Additionally the brandnew diesels have so much low-end torque that they're ideal for cruising. The ones I'm looking for are 2.0-litres in the range of about 120-140hp stock, which can easily be lifted to about 170hp by some small eletronic modifications available from aftermarket-tuners. The torque is comparable to that of a 4.0-litre gas-engine, but at much lower revs.
But as our actual car isn't yet 2 years old, there's still at least one year to go before we replace it.

Thanks for the gas-price info to every-body

Our gas prices are going way up. It's now 89.5/litre whereas a month ago it was closer to 66.5/litre.

Going to see "Hairspray" this afternoon but must run some errands beforehand. Hopefully it won't rain today but it's supposed to start raining this afternoon (again).

WOW!!! A German who speaks Greek! :earseek:

I absolutely LOVE my black Beetle, "Gus" (that's short for Augustus). With a 10-gallon tank, I fill up for less than $20 and can go over 400 miles. That's comforting to know on those days that I threaten to run away.

You all mentioned excursions that you've booked already. Are there any more available? What do we have to choose from? We want to go to St. John instead of St. Thomas this time. We have no idea what to do in Antigua. And we may just lie around Castaway Cay--we really haven't discussed it yet.

I still need to make airline reservations. I've been spooked by other threads on the board that say we should leave the day before & stay overnight. (The last time, we left our house at 4:15 am, and got onboard about 1:00 pm--without a hitch. Were we lucky?) Now we're wondering, do we stay near the airport & let Disney do the transfers? Or should we just rent a car & stay near Port Canaveral? Opinions?

Marianne

P.S. David is getting upset that he hasn't found a cruise buddy yet. :sad1: Aren't boys into e-mailing?

Hey, some of us are doing an Eco Tour in Antigua. You can check it out at www.adventureantigua.com If you'd like to book, just book on line and specify you'll be with the Cruisetoberfest group on October 5. As far as I know, DCL has not yet released an excursion list for Antigua, but all that I have read about this Eco tour looks good.

Some of us are planning on doing the Allegro Resort Pineapple Beach Hotel Day Pass. You can find out more info here:
http://www.antiguanice.com/allegro_daypass/index.html.

Let me know if you are interested (or anyone else that hasn't told me) since I volunteered to contact them with a list of people doing this.:teeth: I will be emailing them soon with the number.

Thanks,

Renee'

Hi...

Cathy with a "C"....where are you...????

Haven't seen you post in a while...Miss you

Bette

You're funny, Marianne :hyper: I'm sure you'll blend in fine with the rest of the bunch ;) But it wasn't Greek, it was Latin :jester:

To all the the St Thomas Divers/Snorkelers:
I just sent you a mail concerning all the required info for making your reservation.

Marianne,
If you want to do St John using DCL, you have two choices: Either a tour via ferry and Jeep to Trunk Bay, where you can snorkel. Or on a large yacht directly from the DCL-dock to Trunk Bay, doing your snorkeling from the yacht. We chose the first one together with Art & Cathy (@GooyNut) in 2001 and liked it, but if we'd go there again, we'd prefer the yacht-thing.

Or you could join us: 17 of us so far will go to the northern part of St T for a combined dive/snorkel-trip. Some of us will do one or two dives into a reef, and the others will snorkel. After that ww will still have enough time for some shopping.

Hi all you Cruisetoberfesters. Just wanted to check in and let you know we haven't dropped of the face of the earth. I have been lurcking out here some, but find it just impossible to keep up with all the posts. We have been having a busy year with Corey's Senior year in High School. College visits & applications, proms, sports......the list goes on. But its worth it. Next year with the empty nest we won't know what to do with ourselves.

Ave, sign Ellen and I up for the Seafood Lunch session. Sounds like fun.

We also booked on the Western bound repositioning cruise. I see several other cruisetoberfester will be on that cruise too. Should be fun. Two weeks of Magical Bliss.....

Looking forward to October and seeing Cruisetoberfester both new and old.

Dave

Piglet33-

It is semi official now....we put our deposit down for the eastern repo....I believe we may be on the same deck as well....

I just keep thinking "we could use that money to do something other than Disney for once!" Then I think "when will I ever actually be able to see these places, AND have it be on DCL?"

I say semi-official because we are trying to have little "Foxes", and I am SOOOO hoping to be rounded belly by then! But, who knows! So, we booked it....we'll have a good time either way!

Peter, and Jen, Great deal on your 14 day trip! I'd say you owe him at least a 12 pack.

Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers out there! Hope you have a great day!

Dave, How the heck are ya?:p Glad you and Ellen will be joining us for lunch. We are at about 38 people now. :Pinkbounc

Got to hit the hay. Work in the AM.

I just sorted the list of threads on the "Cruise Meets" main thread. We are the second largest, with over 2200 replies. :bounce:

The thread with the most is regarding the 10-day cruise in December. (Just thought you'd like to know.)

Gotta go. Heidi's taking me to the movies for Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day to all of us mothers out there!!!
