So we just booked our first stay at the Polynesian for July 12-20. Last year on April 22 we were at Grand Floridian for our honeymoon. We want this trip to be just as special. Anyone have any tips , strategies , fun things to do at the resort and or at Disney world?? We could not make it on April 22 this year so it is not technically our 1 year anniversary - would it be wrong to wear the anniverary disney pins that they give out or to tell the resturants that it's our anniverary? Ok thanks for all the advice - I love disboards and Disney World!:cool1:

Happy Belated Anniversary. I have not stayed at the resort, but have been there for the character breakfast at O'hana's. The food is good and character interaction is good if that is your thing. My family and I have also done the Spirit of Aloha dinner show. We thought that it was good. The show is centered around family and traditions. There is always mixed reviews. We enjoyed it for what it's worth.

I have read on the boards that the Poly beside GF is another location where you can have a photo shoot. I believe I have read that it's $25, you can have picturs attached to your photopass and they take about 40 to 60 pictures around the resort. That would be something nice for an anniversay.

Enjoy your stay. My DH and DS's plan on doing a land/sea package next year for our 15th anniversary and want to stay at the Poly.

Congrats on your 1 year anniversary party:. You are going to LOVE the Poly....it is our #1 fav resort :dance3:. If you need a suggestion for a restaurant, Kona Cafe is right there in the Poly and the food is excellent....the prime rib and filet are awesome :thumbsup2. As far as things to do.....make sure you try out the hammocks on the beach.....they're great for napping in :rolleyes1.....plus they're good for relaxing in while watching the fireworks ;). The mouse boats are also very fun to do :woohoo: :woohoo:. Have a great trip and enjoy the Poly  .

The photo shoot idea is awesome!! How do you go about setting it up? Also do you have to pay again to get the pictures off of the photopass?

I think I can give you some opinions.

First, our anniversary is in September. However, DW is a daycare director and she is more comfortable taking her "main" vacation in August. Therefore, we ALWAYS stroll around in August wearing anniversary pins even though we are a month early.

You will enjoy the POLY. The nice walkways, the pool, the beach, the food, the bars. you can rent the water mice and ride around Bay Lake / Seven Seas Lagoon.

What I would do is...

Call the POLY directly about 5 days before you arrive. Give them a room request. Tell them you are celebrating your 1st Anniversary. At check in, you can tell them again why the 2 of you are there. If they are "on the ball", signed mickey / minnie picture will magically appear in your room.

At Ohana's, they will ask if anyone is celebrating a special occasion. The fireworks and the water parade at night is nice to watch from the beach with a drink in hand.

Another thing, Auntie will give you guys lai's. If you tell her you are here for your anniversary, she will give you the ones with real flowers. She did it for us last year and DW kept them refrigerated. They were a nice touch.

Remember, room request are just that, requests. But they generally try to make sure all are happy.

I haven't done the photo shoot myself. I would assume to set it up you would contact WDW and they would direct your call to the appropriate area. As for the photopass, once you have purchased it and upload your pictures and get the disk you can take it to any store that does printing of digitial pictures.

I love all of this great advice! I have a few questions - what exactly are room requests? What do I tell them? I haven't stayed before at the Poly so I'm not quite sure which room I would want. Also Where do i find Auntie?? thank you all very much! :cool1:

When you call the resort ahead of time, 5 days or so, tell them your request. By this time they should have your reservation transferred to them from CRO.

If it were me, this is how I would say it....and how I am going to say it when its my time....

"Hi, we are checking in on August 20th." They will ask for your name and reservation number.

"We would like to make a few request. Can you please note we would prefer to stay in the Samoa building, third floor with a balcony. If that is not available, then can you please note we would like a third floor room so we can gaurantee a balcony with 2 chairs and table. If we cant get Samoa then a room with a monorail view or better would be great."

Also, "we are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. Can you please surprise my wife with a card signed by mickey and minnie.?"

Thats what I would say / ask. Most of the time, requests are granted. I would make sure they clearly know its your 1ST ANNiVERSARY. Stress it.

Auntie is on the 1st floor opposite the checkin area where the bell service clerk is and where the kiddie tv is located.

We were there for our 20th anniversary last year and we had a fabulous time. Deffinately wear the buttons, you get little suprises everywhere in most cases. Auntie is at Ohana and she loves showering people with attention on special occassions....the lei's she gives out are beautiful! We were in the Hawaii building CL and they sent a special card with mickey/minnie wishing us a happy anniversary. The fireworks are wonderful from the beach. And we love renting the mice boats. Hope you have a wonderful Anniversary and stay! :)

I agree, the fireworks are beautiful over the castle, from the beach, along with a tropical drink from the beach bar.

My big tip?
For our 5 year Anniversary, we ordered a miniature wedding cake from the Grand Floridian bakery. It was $25 and the size of 2 cupcakes approximately, but beautifully decorated and of course delicious!
You can have it come to your table if you're eating at the Grand Floridian, or you can pick it up and take it with you wherever you dine.

oh that little cake sounds wonderful! We are going to be at the Poly for our 10th Anniversary and I just might need to order that little cake!
