I talk from experience, no sense trying to cram too much into so little. Touring comes at an easier pace, what you miss one day and be gained on another day. Afternoon breaks become a way of life, letting everyone enjoy the pool and resort facilities, part of what you actually paid for. There's other things in WDW besides the parks, water parks are a great place to relax a day, mini golf, Boardwalk, FW, other resorts, casual shopping the whole world. All these can only be done with extra time, parks alone can take up to 5 days and that's running like nuts, enjoying the parks takes alot longer, actually stopping and seeing, feeling and smelling all the adventures.

Depending on the time of year, and season longer stays are a
god send. We're up to the 10-14 night stays ourselves and we feel more relaxed when coming home, not pressured that we didn't do all but almost did but more relaxed, guess its the seasoned WDW guest in us, our 39th trip was this past September and can't wait to hit it again.

I'm not sure of the web address, but the official Orlando tourism site (go.orlando, I believe. Just google it & you'll get the right address) & the Kissimmee site (FLAkiss.com, but again, google knows best!) all have tons of lisitings for reasonable vacation home rentals not too far away from the parks. My friend just came back & got a gorgeous vacation home for $89 a night! It was in Kissimmee, only a few miles away from MK, had a pool, 2 bedrooms, a kitchenette, & was very clean. Some of these places also offer different discounts as well (military, AARP, etc.) As for length of stay, I always say the longer, the better. But it all depends on your budget & how well your little ones will handle being away from home for an extended period of time, although they really don't get homesick at Disney! 10 days is good for first timers, I think. You'll be able to get in most of the big attraction on a relaxing pace. Good luck in your planning!

We're 2 weeker's here. We've almost always gone at least 10 days/trip. It is amazing how much more relaxing a trip can be when you can leave the parks in the afternoon when it gets beyond hot, kids are getting tired, crowd overload, etc. We leave just after lunch everyday (granted, we don't eat until around 1:00 - 2:00). We go back to the resort and shower (gotta love it as hot as FL is!), go to the pool, let the kids take naps, etc. Then we shower again (if we went to the pool), dress for dinner and go back to either the park or resort where we are dining. Usually, if we're at a park, we stay for fireworks or night-time parade or catch some rides if it's not crowded. And, we take a couple of "down" days to just shop or swim or relax, etc. We don't come back home needing a vacation. There are several options for where to stay. Disney offers value resorts, there are other resorts nearby, you can rent a condo. If it's possible, it's great to stay longer. That said, I hope no one decides to do this if it puts a financial strain on their families by trying to stay longer than they can reasonably afford. That would really defeat the purpose! Remember, a trip of any length to Disney is wonderful! :hippie:

I'm for 10 - 12 days myself. That way you can relax and not have to do the parks commando. This also gives you a couple of days to do Universal. (Orlando is not just Disney).

i think 10-12 days is more than enough. if you plan to go again soon, then a week would be fine. if you won't be back for a while, then I would go longer. my family goes frequently for 5-7 days at a time. we are taking our first 12 day trip in a few weeks. i am looking forward to some "down" time while in disney.

My DH & I always go about 9 days and that seems enough for us. We try to break up the week by not trying to do everything the first two or three days.

We find that going for longer periods of time gives us a more relaxing vacation. We do a majority of half days at the park and get to really enjoy the resort we are at.

We do the 10 - 12 day vacation, but as you can tell by the OPs the longer the stay (if financially feasible), the more relaxing a vacation. And afternoon breaks are truly a must. We'll watch some TV in the air conditioned room or swim in the pools. My kids and I are now value resorters, which allows us a few extra days to spend in WDW and are looking forward to our next visit in August (gasp, gasp - is there ANY air in Florida in August???)

Even if you go for 2 weeks you will not be able to fit everything the World has to offer in! You can make the best of it, but there is just so much to do and see you need to prioritize and keep in mind, if you can't do it this time there is always next time. We usually go for 10 days and find that we can get a lot in and still save some covetted vacation time for other things throughout the year.

We rented a 6 bedroom home from www.villadirect.com
They have a lot of choices from 3 bedroom townhomes and condos to 4-6 bedroom homes and we felt more comfortable renting from them then renting from an owner. But if you feel comfortable renting by owner there is also www.vrbo.com You can save money renting directly from the owner, but being first time home renters we just felt better by renting through a management company.

DO some research as to what area you would like to stay in. A lot of homes say they are close to WDW when they really aren't. There are a lot of talk about Villas at the Orlando Hotels and Attractions section that can help you choose what is best for you.

OK - I'm jealous of ALL of you!:goodvibes

What I wouldn't do to be able to stay more than a week! But now that my kids are older, it's just not possible to miss more than a week of school anymore:sad1: I say, if you got the time - the longer, the better!:woohoo:

10 days seems to be the minimum for proper enjoyment.

The first year we went 7 days and ran our little fannies off to get everything in.

With the 10 days you still need strict planning and there's still a bit of "Hurry up and wait".

I have two boys, 10 and 13, there is no "afternoon break" at the hotel, it's go go go with them.

We never had the boys there when they needed naps in the afternoon. So I have no idea how that would work. I've seen quite a few babies sleeping in strollers in the afternoon and daddies holding sleeping toddlers in the evening. So I think they'll sleep anywhere.

How much money do you need to take?

None, we use our Disney Visa card or our room key to charge everything.

Your room key is good for charging anything on Disney property (Except for the Swan and Dolphin hotels) and you don't need a Disney Visa, any credit card will do.

We got the meal plan so the only money we spent was for souvenirs.
