Our family is planning a trip to WDW next Sept. We'd been planning on staying 4 nights at the WL and 4 nights at the YC but our travel agent told us that dining reservations can sometimes get confused when trips are booked that way. Has anyone ever done split stays and encountered dining problems?

I have not, but plenty have done split stays with dining. I don't remember reading about problems. It's all computerized.

your actual reservations won't get confusing. The problem is if you want to do the dining plan you have to buy tickets for each portion of the trip which is a waste of $$ since the more days you buy on 1 ticket the cheaper it becomes.

If you are doing a room discount and paying for food OOP then it's a nonissue

I'm staying at 2 resorts this trip, and I did my own ADRs online. I don't think the question of where I was staying even came up. My last two visits were also split stays with Disney ADRs. I can't think of why your resort plans would confuse your dining reservations.

As PP stated, there can be questions about technicalities of the dining plan program, for example, how the dining plan operates on check-out day of first resort and check-in at second resort, or, having to buy basic park tickets for both reservations if you are using the dining plan at both resorts, etc. IMO, your TA needn't have made a comment unless a specific question arose. There's plenty of visitors who do split stays, and dine at Disney, and have no issues. I don't share your TA's concern.

only issue i can think of is you gotta remember 180 plus 10days adr's
for 2 different reservations. dont thikn it really matters though. cause you can book up to 10days after your first checkin day.

Only other issue is linking adr's to reservation if though TA> gotta have your real disney confirmation for this.

You actually can't book reservations for the 2nd part of your stay at the same time. Your 180 day clock begins again for the 2nd hotel reservation. Maybe that's the confusion they were talking about (ie they will have to call back a 2nd time?). For us, it was definitely worth it to do the split stay and wake up at 6am twice. :-).

I think the #1 issue is that to have the dining plan with both reservations, you will have to buy tickets with each reservation which will drive up your costs, as a PP mentioned.

If you are staying at 2 resorts, that is considered two entirely separate reservations to Disney, so you cannot have one continuous dining plan for the entire trip.

I recently did an "unplanned" resort switch and they transferred the dining plan with no problem at all.

That would not be the same situation at all, so doesn't apply to the OP's question.

If the OP is talking about ADR's and NOT dining plan, then split stays will not be a problem whatsoever. I've done plenty of split stays with ADR's and I've never had a problem. They are tied to my phone number so I can find them anytime by contacting Disney Dining. Once I check in, they link them to my reservation or I can have them linked when I make the ADR by providing them with my resort reservation number.
