1 thing WDW 1st timers really didn't like about WDW Dining...

I'm wondering why this thread isn't titled "OMG, I can't believe how much food all the people sitting around me are wasting at the buffets!" :confused3

As far as the actual title, I would say that the biggest surprise for us was how crazy the crowds were at two of our ADR's, Ohana and CRT.

You've never walked to your table, or out of the restaurant and see piles of food leftover on tables? You've never had a child drop a full plate of food on your feet or bang into you with a plate full of food?

It's funny to me how people always post this kind of a response - believe me, I am very busy with my own family, so I don't go looking at others' plates on purpose, but in the above situations, it's hard not to see the mounds of food lefover on plates.

Tiger

Actually no to any of those questions. I wasn't being snarky, just a sincere statement. Call me oblivious or whatever you want - but I have never noticed any of this. I'm fairly busy and distracted with my own family.

:confused3 Dunno, I guess that title was in relation to the dining we saw at disney in general. Also in reading food reviews- there are a lot of "took one bite and moved on" comments...

Regarding seeing the plates of others- it is not hard when you are walking around, especially if you are a people watcher like myself ;)

To each there own, but I just hated seeing all that wasted food- I would have been embarrassed by it to be honest.

It's a really sad thing to see. I always tell my kids not to take to much (and they do eat a lot), they can always go back. Sometimes are eyes are bigger than are stomach ;)

We also usually take are plates back and the cm's tell us to take new ones. And i'm thinking...what about all the extra dishes you will have to wash?!?!
At least i'm not washing it but still.:confused3

Just in case no one has thought about it, there is a way to eliminate waste from the TS & CS huge portions.
(1) DH & I share a lot, even on DDP.
(2) Get takeout boxes & take the excess food back to the room; we do this a lot. Store in the room fridge. When ready, use the microwave in the resort food area.
(3)If we have leftover DDP credits, we give them away or, if driving, we stop by Publix, buy a $4 styrofoam cooler & take home our goodies (live in Indiana)! Once we even took home 2 full orders of ribs from ESPN that we bought on the last day with our leftover TS credits (once home we froze them & later cooked them with beans in a crock pot - ummmm, so good)! We used the resort ice to fill our cooler. We always have snack credits left, so on the last day we use them all on Magic Cookies at POR & cupcakes from the Starring Rolls Bakery in the Studios - yum, yum! Our leftover counter service credits are used at Studios Starring Rolls for sandwiches.

I HATE wasteful greed & manners also, but I don't always assume leftover food is such. There are other reasons as already mentioned. For instance I have often purchased apples at the grocery, only to take that first bite & discover they are "mushy"! Maybe that is what happened?

However, one thing I know for sure is that what the OP observed is not a Disney restaurant or Disney visitor thing. If one is interested in doing so, such can be observed most anywhere.

I agree that a lot of people are wasteful at buffets. As a tree hugger it makes me crazy :( I am all about maximizing my value but wasting food certainly doesn't make me feel cost validated.

For us getting a dessert when you didn't want one would be silly since you still pay a tip on it. Yes, I know $1 or so isn't a lot of money, but why waste money and food? :sad2:

I don't think you cam blame the dining plan though, I see people waste food all the time
