1 room vs 2

looking to book a new Dec 2016 trip. in the past we have always needed to do 2 room but this trip we are only a family of 4. my biggest issues is to justify needing/wanting 2 rooms and if we do a value or moderate resort. there will be 2 teen girls as well as my DH and myself, they want the 2 rooms for "their space" and for the bathroom(but to them its the quiet-non snoring dad in the room). costs are between $900-$1350 to do 2 rooms, I do like the dining plan for the ease but I know how to do Disney on a food budget if we need to and FD isn't offered. I guess I am looking for thoughts on this before I book.

There is no guarantee that the 2 rooms will be anywhere near each other, even if you request "connecting" rooms. Disney tries very hard to meet these requests but there are simply not enough rooms to meet all requests. As long as you have 2 adults you could split one adult per room
Something to consider when you make your choice

This. :thumbsup2

I would stick with 1 room as connecting rooms are only requests. However, I would consider staying at a moderate for the queen beds and double sinks (at most of them) if sleeping arrangements and bathrooms are a concern.

We are a family of 4 as well. We do two rooms. We enjoy our own space as much as the girls (DD 11, DD12) do. It's nice having two bathrooms as well.

We are a family of 4. Myself, husband, daughter 17 and son 13. We are doing 2 rooms. 4 adult sized people in one room seems tight. We are staying at CSR. You could always look into the Cabins. They weren't for us, but they might work for you. You still only get one bathroom.

How about a family suite, either at the All Star Music or AoA? That way you don't have to worry about getting connecting rooms. Plus you will get 2 bathrooms and a kitchenette.

You also could rent points and get a one bedroom at one of the newer DVC resorts that has two bathrooms. Or, a two bedroom.

Maybe the suite would work for you but if not I would be getting 1 room. It's for sleeping and showering - you will be on the go or at the pool so much that paying for the second would be a waste. I'd rather waste that money on lots of other stuff than letting the kids have their own room. Add to that they might not even be in the same building as you.

PS. Yes I have stayed in one Disney room with 4 adults many times.

If its in your budget & there's availability - look into the DVC studios at GF & Poly - they are larger than a moderate room & have the split bathrooms - 2 separate areas (both with closing doors), one with shower & sink, one with tub/shower, sink & toilet. Makes getting ready MUCH easier with that set up. They also both have the pull-down extra bed, so the girls wouldn't have to share the sofa bed. This would be ideal if you decide to just get 1 room vs. 2.

We haven't done one room in several years. I don't know about the girls' comfort, but I personally want my privacy and space. As far as connecting, if they aren't I would still put them in their own room. We all have cell phones, and my kids have done this when we couldn't be connecting (not Disney). They know to bolt the door. I know you'd technically have to put one adult on the reservation, but where they sleep is up to you. If the 17 year old is 18 by the time you travel, it's not an issue anyway.

With DS (18) and DD (16), 2 bathrooms and 3 beds have been a must for us for a number of years. We've booked a 1-bedroom Villa at BLT. With a cash reservation, it was quite a bit cheaper than 2 standard rooms at any of the deluxe hotels (ease of transportation was important for us, so we focused on the deluxes). It has two bathrooms and a sofa bed and sleeper chair in the living room. Looks perfect for us!

AKV Kidani also has 2 bathrooms in the 1 bedroom villas, and the living room has a sofa sleeper and chair bed. I guess that's as good as 2 rooms, plus you'd have the kitchen and washer/dryer. We're booked in one of these rented from the owner off redweek for Easter break - $2000 for the week versus $600 or so plus tax per night (way more!) through Disney. 3 of us going. No housekeeping daily but I don't care.

Space was very important to us when we were traveling with our two teens. We found the rooms at the Poly to be quite large and plenty of room for us. There is a daybed that was very comfy and allowed the teens to sleep separately.

its nice to see that others find our situation understandable and not to judge us. teen girls and their space is important as well as me having a bit of space from them:) each trip we say that they will go off on their own, but usually its not for long. I have done some numbers and now I have to decide if we were to go back to a value resort or do a moderate. so much to think about and plan-I just want to decide-book-start to pay....and watch for discounts that may show up later:) hoping for any discounts....not planning on them so if we get one, its just a nice bonus. When we have FD, we utilize the sit down meals...without FD, we will be more picky as to where and how many sit down meals we do.

with this being said, what are your thought as to resort choices and hoping to have FD. the girls don't really care as long as they have their own room, so now its either all star/POP or CBR. are any of these usually blacked out for FD? and what is the fee to upgrade to DDP if we choose to go value?

When we got free dining last trip, we chose to take the quick service (stayed at Pop). With teens, I'd say don't upgrade unless you all really want a table service meal each day. We honestly didn't want any, but did do breakfast and lunch at BOG. Lunch was fantastic! I'd definitely do Pop again (well, am for a couple nights next trip) and loved the QSDP.
