1 room - 2 BIG kids! Help!

Hi, I'm a newbie to the site.

I'm just putting some plans into place for next year. We haven't been to Orlando since 2007 so I know a lot has changed - including the size of our kids |

We want to stay in a WDW hotel in order to take advantage of the free dining (so value resorts are out) but we also need a room that will accommodate me, my DH and our 2 kids (DD19, DS17). When they were smaller they were happy to share a queen size bed but I wouldn't think of asking them to so that now! We are on a tight budget so want to stick to 1 room if possible. We don't intend to spend much time in the room - just showering and sleeping - so space isn't too much of an issue.

Any suggestions of resorts that have either bunks or a rollaway bed? I know AKL has rooms with bunks - we stayed there in 2007 - but we are looking for something cheaper as we plan to be there for 2 weeks.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The new AoA suites would have three beds and two bathrooms and are considered a Value resort, but I have read that they are not super cheap.

Do a search for ' 2 rooms at POP or AoA' and there is a good thread about it with links to floor plans.

otherwise, Some POR rooms have a trundle bed (maybe not great for a BIG kid) and the deludes have a nice full size day bed, but not cheap.

I would go with a family suite at AoA or a family suite at one of the other resorts. You'll have more space and everyone will be happy

WL has rooms with bunks, too. It's one of the lower priced Deluxes. Perhaps a cabin at Ft Wilderness? It has a full kitchen and grill. If you have a car, you can park at your cabin.

The new suites at AoA? They sleep 6, so everyone could have their own bed. Remember, value resorts only have the quick service meal plan with FD. You'll need a mod or deluxe for the "standard" plan.

Another option is to stay at a value in two rooms and pay to upgrade to the basic dining plan, or list all four in one free dining room, and use a room only discount for the second room at any level reort. We have done this many times with great success.
However, we have had no problem getting a rollaway in both CBR and CSR... I'm sure other mods have them as well.
Also, keep in mind at 19, one of your children will be paying an up charge to stay in the same room, as over two adults results in addl chage per night, so the two room plan may behoove you.

AoA suite, family suite at the values, bunk room at AKL or WL, or cabin at FW. Anything else starts to get expensive - like the deluxe rooms with daybeds (and the daybeds are small) or villas or the junior suites at CSR. If you price out villas, the only 1BR with the extra sleeper chair (may be tight for a teen) are BLT, Kidani & OKW.

They will not fit on the Murphy beds at POR, they are for children under 5 feet tall. (Unless, of course, your teen sons are very short!)

no more trundle beds. They have all been replaced by the small Murphy bed that probably isn't great for a big kid. I'd also consider AoA or 2 value rooms since 1 of your kids is an adult by Disney room rules and you will be charged the extra fee unless you are in a suite.

If you are set on your dates I'd also look into renting DVC points. You won't be eligible for free dining but you will save enough on a 1BR to pay OOP for food or to add Dining to your reservation and pay for it.

I have the same situation. Two young adults instead of kids... Last trip, we decided to get two rooms at a value instead of one of the cabins. Simply because with two teenage girls, we HAD to have two bathrooms. It worked out really well for us.

If you don't mind being in one room with one bathroom, how about a value resort and and air mattress? Your kids can take turns sleeping on it. That would be the cheapest way.

Or how about a Family Suite at ASMu? You would get a queen bed in the bedroom, and each kid would get their own fold out bed. The are pretty comfortable, I shared the couch one with one of my nieces. An ASMu Family Suite costs about the same as 2 preferred value rooms. Plus you would get the bonus of a kitchenette, which you could use to save even more money by having simple meals in the room. Even doing breakfast in the room would save you a lot! And you would get a second bathroom.

I have older kids too and we generally stay moderate and bring our twin airbed. We have used it at all four mods as well as all the values.

Suites at the values are very expensive. We manage fine in one room.

My ds17 often showers in the pool locker room! Especially after our pool breaks.

The airbed fits fine between the bed and door, then can be propped up against the wall. I bring my own fitted sheet but call housekeeping for an extra pillow and blanket.

Been doing this for 8 years!

Hmmm, I messed up the quote but the above section was a quote from a previous poster.

Don't forget that you will be paying the extra adult fee in the room for the 19 year old.

This is what I was going to suggest if you can't afford one of the deluxes that has the daybed like the Contemporary or Poly.

The other option I would consider is one another poster mentioned - 2 rooms at a value resort. Ask for connecting rooms. You may not get them since your oldest is an adult. Then you could pay for the difference between the free QS dining and TS dining costs.

You could also do a Ft. Wilderness Cabin.

I don't know about a suite at AoA or All Star Music. I don't like the idea of fold out furniture. But that's just me.

However if you decide to go with a Family Suite, they don't charge you the extra adult fee.

Keep in mind too that the fee increases along with the resort level. It is only $10 per extra adult per night at the value resorts. The moderates charge $15 per extra adult per night, and the deluxe resorts charge $25.

We also use an air mattress. I have two teenagers and they just take turns sleeping on the air mattress and the bed. It always works well for us.

When my brother and I were teenagers, I would sleep with my mom in a bed and my bro and dad slept in the other. That said, the air mattress sounds like a good solution.
