1 QS = 3 Snacks?

So I've read some places on this board that you can one quick service credit and get 3 snacks. My question is, at what locations can you do this? Is it possible to do this in the parks? Or is it just in the resorts?

Pretty much you will not likely be able to do this anywhere. They have tightened down a lot on the dining plans this year and no longer allow substitutions and things like that. The only type of trading down is to use a TS credit at a QS/CS location.

In the past, a few have reported their resort QS/CS location allowing them to use a CS credit for 2-3 snack items, but it was never an official rule and most CMs wouldn't allow it. The parks will definitely not allow it, but you are welcome to ask whatever resort you are staying at. Expect them to say no, though.

We asked last week at Goofy's in DTD and they said "no". Their computer did not have a buttom to do so. They told me to ask at the resort. They also said the resorts are known for saying no and sending people back to Goofy's. She asked me to tell them that Goofy's is a NO. We never did ask at the resort, though.

good luck!

Sort of related question - does anyone know are they still doing the "continental combo" for breakfast - I think we used to get 2 (or was it 3?) pastries for breakfast and then the 2 drinks (I know it is only 1 drink now)

TIA

This has been done at resort CS, not in parks or shops. It's not officially part of the DDP and isn't written in the brochure, it's just something resorts were doing, I suppose because there were a lot of guests trying to use up leftover CS credits. But since it isn't a written rule they could stop it at any time.

Should be noted for those trying to assemble a breakfast that it is now written in the brochures that cereal with milk is considered a CS meal, not a snack. Used to be that both could be gotten for one snack credit.

We have done this every trip, but we've only ever tried at our resort. We've done it at the food courts at ASMo & Pop, and we've done it the last 2 years at Contempo. Cafe. -Last year, every time I would get a snack from Contempo. Cafe, the cashier would ask me if I wanted to use snack credits or a QS credit. I will say that we always go in Sept., when there's usually free dining, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but we've always been able to and have many times. I'm sure we'll have some leftover credits this next trip and will plan on doing the same thing.

In May 2011 every time I ordered 3 or more snacks I was asked "Would you like to use your snacks or a meal for this purchase?" The first I had to ask what they meant.

Every single time. From MK to Epcot.

I was on the Deluxe DP at the time.

From what I have read, that all changed as of Jan 1 2012. I can't confirm it however.

We always stay at POP and have been able to do this. Now going to EPCOT we tried a few years back to have 3 pops for a meal and they told us no. But when we have had left over meals we used pastries for meals for our drive home. Having only 1 snack isn't that big of an issue. I would rather 2 but would just wish to have FD. **fingers crossed it comes out for Dec anytime**

We used CS meals as snacks at POFQ last year. I went and spoke to CM at the concierge first to find out what the policy was at the time. She said that we could do so by all means but it could only be done in the food court. She then went on to explain that only places that served both meals AND snacks were able to do this trade. So the only reason they can't do it in the gift shop is that the gift shop tills are not programmed with a facility to ring up/redeem a CS meal.

We have, in the past, been able to do this at Main Street Bakery too, but last year we noticed they were incredibly strict about what you could take as a 'meal' although this could have been down to the CMs who happened to have served us at the time

You should not have told me that  I love the chocolate cake they have there!!!!!! Does that mean I can go for a CS at Main Street Bakery and have one milk and two cakes for example? :cutie:

As I mentioned in my previous post, it seems to vary (as always) by CM. We have never had an issue with taking two cinnamon rolls and a bottled drink as a CS credit. Last year we were leaving the park late one night and stopped to pick up a meal to share between DD and myself. We wanted a sandwich, a pastry and a juice. But they had no sandwiches. So we asked (I always ask anyways if it's not written in the 'rules') if we could take two pastries. It costs less anyhow and the CM said it was fine. When we got to the cashier she refused to ring it up as a CS and said it was 3 snacks. I told her that we had checked and really would rather have had a sandwich but there were none. She said we could take a bag of chips or a fruit and she would then charge us 1 CS and 1 snack. Even late at night my brain was able to figure that this was not the greatest deal. I told her (she was real nice by the way, just following her rules) that I would get the CM who had told us what we would have but he had left minutes before that so he was gone. We eventually just took a pastry and a juice and paid with snack credits, leaving the other pastry behind. Silly thing is that it would have gone right into the trash when we left :rolleyes1

A few days later we went back and ordered the CS as they said they want it and DD mentioned she wished we could have had 2 desserts instead of a sandwich and a cake. The cashier overheard us and told us of course we could and we took two desserts and a bottled water as a CS no problem. Just one more of thousands of examples of why you need to check first.

My advice is that if you think they will allow it and suspect it is down to the CM, just thank them politely, and go to a different cashier and try your luck there :rotfl:

Thanks, I'll definitely have to try my luck with that. From my calculations it seems like both me and my DBF will have 6 CS credits left after our trip. If we could use some of them at the bakery it would help a lot :goodvibes

My DD and I had 12 or 14 left between us at the end of our last trip and it was really hard to use them all. I try to keep tabs on our average credit usage throughout the trip so as not to end up spending our last day running around trying to use up at least some of the left over credits. But then over the last 3 trips we have used QSDP and paid OOP for quite a few TS. We have decided not to make any ADRs this year so it should be less of a problem as we found that when we ate TS we often didn't eat anything more than a snack the rest of the day. Using a CS for a breakfast to share may not be the best use of it, but it is a whole lot better than wasting it entirely and still often better than buying 3 foodcourt snacks with it (which tend to be mostly under the $4 mark anyway).

If you are in MK on your departure day, some pastries for the trip home (and juices if you are driving and not bound by airline restrictions on liquids) is a good way to use them

We won't do any parks on departure day as we have to leave by noon the latest for our flight. But we are planning on doing MK the last park day as it's my favorite park and has pm EMH that day. I'm sure we'll stuff our faces that day, and if we have any credits left we'll bring some stuff to the resort for next morning and for the flight.

I would ask prior to your last day.

When we were there in Jan/ Feb of this year we were told the "rules" had changed. Previously at AS Music food court you could get almost any 3 snacks (they didn't let you get candy) for a CS credit. This time it had to be a pastry, a PIECE of fruit and a drink. When told this we grabbed a muffin, a thing of grapes (which is a snack credit) and a drink - I was told 'nope' on the grapes has to be a piece of fruit.....big change and not for the positive IMO.

We used to be big fans of the meal plan but after several trips without it and after this last round of changes I think we're going to go without it from now on.

Yeah, I'll definitely ask, it never hurts as I might get a yes :goodvibes Especially if I can use one CS on that delicious cake! And if I get a no the first time, I'll try again as it seems that some will allow it while others wont. My experience from working there is that as long as the system (register) will allow it, then it is allowed. I never had this issue come up when I worked at Kringla though, as no one ever asked about doing it any other way.

Last trip but one we had loads of QS credits left as we had paid OOP for character breakfasts and tried to use them for snacks at POFQ food court. We only really wanted chips and drinks for the airport - not the meal part etc. It was hard work trying to persuade the manager that we really didnt mind using a counter service credit and not taking the burger/pizza/chicken - I was almost at the point of give me the meal and I will cheerfully put it in the bin for you!

Last trip we planned better and had many nights in MK bakery for takeout.

I keep reading on here in various places, that as of now, a lot of places are no longer allowing 3 snacks to equal 1 QS. So if that is true, would it then mean that, at the resort, we couldn't build a breakfast out of 3 snack credits?! Platters, especially with all the sausage, eggs & bacon, don't appeal to me so I'm wondering how to get a breakfast with a pastry without having to use a snack credit (since I know we'll have a few extra CS credits)

I guess that would depend on what you're planning to get. You can usually use your snack credit on items that costs less than $4, but that doesn't automatically mean that everything under $4 can be bought on a snack credit.

I had the same experience at the POP Century Food Court. On previous trips we had been able to substitute 3 snacks for a CS credit but on this trip, a number of CM's and 2 concierges confirmed that the only snacks which could be purchased with a quick service credit were the ones which qualify as a continental breakfast - 1 pastry, 1 fruit & 1 drink. The cashier even pulled out a picture showing the acceptable combination. I wish Disney would be a bit more flexible on this - I have a son who likes to make meals from the grab and go section which leaves us short of snack credits. We actually ended up buying sandwiches we didn't want at the bakery at the France pavillion so we could use meal credits for the pastries and drinks. Crazy!
