My husband may not be able to go now, but we don't want to pay addt'l fees on top of what we paid for airfare. If he just doesn't show up, will we have any problems?

Are the change fees less then the price of the ticket? If so just cancel his ticket and the extra funds above and beyond the change fee will be placed into a "holding account" for one year from date of purchase for most airlines that can be used on another flight for him.

If the change fees are higher then the price of the ticket, then if he is a no show, the entire ticket value will be forfeited and it should have no effect on the balance of the tickets (if they are booked on the same confirmation number, you might have to check him in, but he just won't board the plane).

You probably shouldn't check him in and then have him skip the flight. That has the potential of creating a huge security problem!

But I don't see a problem with him just not showing up for the flight. People miss their flights all the time because they over slept, got delayed in traffic, etc. It really isn't different.

Not sure if you know this, but his seat most likely won't remain empty. Most flights are oversold, and there will probably end up sitting in his spot.

I just wanted you to not be depending on having extra space to spread out in. It probably won't happen.

I hadn't even thought of the extra space thing, I just want to make sure we'll have no problems boarding.

Last May my parents came to Disney with us and had to return home a few days early. It was cheaper to book on a different airline than change their flight. They just didn't check in. We had no issues (and actually their seats stayed empty which was very helpful since we had a lap infant).
