Our friend who is so generously giving us a free week, could not snag the CPGV as originally planned. Oh well, our new choices are Silver Lakes or Vacation Villages at Pkwy? Any opinions for the best for relaxing?

TIA

is it one bedroom or two?

that might make a difference as Vacation Village has lock out units they call one bedrooms but come with partial kitchen ( you are sharing the small side of a two bedroom but with separate entrance )

they are both in the same vicinity both smaller resorts

VV is high rise

Silver Lake is three story buidlings backing onto disney animal kingdom property

They are both 2 bedroom units that are available does it make yur opinion differ? I was sorry she didn't snag the CPGV when it 1st showed up.

Lawgs, you seem quite knowledgable on RCI. Can I pick your brain, it seems that the only things coming up for her search are the timeshares found on sites such as Skyauction and AFVB, what do you think our chances are if wait until 30 days from checkin, more or less inventory? Right now we are about 7 weeks out?

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Holly

Vacation Village at Parkway 2 bedroom is more like 2-1bedroom apartments.

It's very good for 2 couples because there are 2 livingrooms and 2 bathrooms and 2 dining/cooking areas...etc...

see the floor plans at http://www.dailymanagementresorts.com/parkway.htm

We have stayed here before and are going back in December. Just don't do the timeshare presentation unless you are really good at standing your ground. They are a really hard sell type of place.

We have only driven past Silver Lake but it gets good reviews and I WILL stay there someday. It's really close to WDW.

If it matters to you, SL has washers and dryers in your unit, and they are free. I believe V V has pay units on each floor.

Also, getting to and from the parks would be a little easier from SL. Just use Sherbeth Rd and Osceola Parkway. You never need get on 192 if you don't want to :). However, taht's where the restaurants and grocery stores are :).

One bad for SL is if you get the older 3 story buildings, there are no elevators. Only time that bothered me was moving in and moving out, but for the price I paid, I won't complain too much!

my thought would be that the best resorts would be "snagged" by now since exchanges must have exchanges to make them work and to get most value for your exchange people can bank upto two years before .....to increase trade power....

the excess inventory has been "taken up" by skyauction or AFVB and it shows up there....although sometimes you see similar offerngs from an RCI search and what is in Findweeks on skyauction

but, then again there is a lot of speculation on TUG

www.tug2.net

that RCI seems to manipulate things

the timing of 30 days would come more into play if RCI points are involved.....weeks would be less likely

7 weeks out would be around the first week of november

just did a search with our Orange Lake week and got 22 resorts fro 2 bedroom ...checkin between oct 27 and dec 01

they do have or seem in my search to have

silver lake silver points 3 bedroom 11/12/4 and 11/26/04 ( the same weeks show up on Skyauction too ) ...by the way, this is the newest phase of silver lake and silver lake backs onto disney animal kingdom

if they can get this for you, it would be a good choice....

it would depend on their "trading power" what they might pull.....

the marriotts sabal palms and royal palms are showing up for the end of November

kingstown reef, celebration world I & II, oasis lakes ( which is a nice resort just across the street from Vistana Villages, in my RCI search it comes up for every week in november except the 12th plus the end of october 29 and 30 ) summer bay, villas at summer bay, sheraton vistana and vacation village at parkway are all showing ( but not having exact dates this is basically for all the month of november ) of course similar inventory is on skyauction with exception of oasis lakes and sheraton vistana

the older 2 bedrooms at V V did not have washer/dryers, but the newer units do.....think it depends on check in day but not sure.......but we did get both in our Unit last january when we stayed at V V

Don't know if this bit of info is important to this discussion or not (I'm not timeshare savvy AT ALL :p )...............

but when we won our auction for Vistana Resort it was 11 days before the check in date. And we received the next to the newest section. And now this week I have seen two auctions for Vistana for Oct. 3rd.

Is this just because it is the slow season, or do the timeshare places keep some inventory back??

the two inventories are suppost to be different but you are right that Vistana is showing up in both places now, both in the exchange search i did

7 instances of Vistana show up in regular auction NONE in RSG ( some being for Exact dates )

in checking RCI just now, they do not have "bonus weeks" at Vistana yet show most of the other resorts usually mentioned here as being on RSG at skyauction ( which is not to my knowledge affialiated with RCI but a third party that buys up excess inventory )

and the only exchanges they have avaiable are 3 weeks at the end of November

as to how they "fill" all these inventories, that would be a $64000 question but there is suppost to be some formula they use ....along with regional data based on past experiiences...

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT! No kidding........the RSG auctions are not offered by RCI?? Wow.

Come to think of it, I don't even know WHO Skyauction IS, really. Is it RCI? Did they start Skyauction to get rid of inventory that was sitting around otherwise??

Sorry for the off topic questions.......I'm just so curious since I have now used them for myself and others three times and don't exactly understand who they are.

Thanks, lawgs.

whoever they are, thank goodness they exist and offer affordable 5 star accomodations to people trhough their auctions

we should enjoy all this while we can, there may come a time when "what we use now" will not be available ( like orange lake, hilton grand vacations and some others not being available for auctions any more )

I'm curious about this too...my guest certificate said "RCI" on it, but when I called them about something, they seemed to have no record of my reservation and referred me back to Skyauction. Interesting.

I'm also concerned about the change in Orlando resort offerings over time...my theory is that because travel was way down following the events of 9/11/01, there were "better" resorts available for awhile. Now the industry is recovering and the availability reflects that. We were very fortunate to stay in both HGVC and Orange Lake...and now we're spoiled! I hope we can find a nice resort for our next trip...but I doubt we'll find the same calibre of reservations for the same rates.

From my understanding when you win an auction you receive a RCI exchange certificate. It is the same certificate any owner exchanging would receive. The resort does not receive your info until a few days before the trip. I am scheduled to check-in to Cypress Pointe this Sunday. I called to request a refurbished unit. The girl checked my reservation and said I would probably get one since the units are reserved for owners and RCI exchanges. She said since I was an RCI exchange I would get top priority with the owners. She didn't even know I got it through Sky Auction.

bunny

we have gotten RCI "guest certificates" on auctions we have gotten

you are right about the "transparency" once you win the auction, it becomes like you have exchanged which if you were actually a member of RCI would have cost you the following.....

initial purchase price + maintenance fees + RCI membership + RCI exchange fee ( the last two total almost 200$ )

much much more than the "auction" prices that are obtained through Skyauction

thus, some members who own timeshares are chagrined that "weeks" can be "snagged" for such a bargain ( it essentially does not make sense to own a timeshare when you can fulfill your needs through skyauction et al offerings )

local_girl

the information on your guest certificate will say somethinga bout MHI but your actual information is not transferred to the resort until maybe a week or less before you arrive
