$1 mil Michigan lotto winner still collecting food stamps

I agree, this ticks me off to no end. It is unbeleivable the sense of intitlement some have. I t dosen't matter that i just won the lottery becasue that surley means the tax payers and the state can buy my food even though i have 2 house and a whole lot of money that i can now buy other crap with.

This lady needs to get off government help go to school and get a dergree to do something productive with her life instead of mooching off the tax payers. Don't get me wron i'm not against anyone that needs help espicely with food for their families, but i'm not ok with this. I don't know how her concience didn't tell her that.

Despicable and absolutely reflective of what is wrong with this system of entitlement and "why should I work when I can get it for free with the hard working saps paying for it" attitude :furious:

I bet she paid enough income tax on the lottery winnings to pay for her own food stamps. :rotfl:

Glad she and the man doing the same finally got the benefit stopped.

Want more entitlement viewing, watch Judge Judy, People's Court and similar programs. :confused3

Such a shame she is taking advantage o fthe system. With the economy the way it is so many people truly need that assistance. People like this woman place all of the really needy people under undue scrutiny. I believe in Karma though and this type of thing always comes back on people.

Update:

A Michigan woman who hit a $1 million lottery jackpot but kept getting food stamps pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to welfare fraud, NBC station WDIV-TV in Detroit reported.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette earlier on Tuesday had announced two felony charges against Amanda Clayton, 25, of Lincoln Park.

The charges are punishable by up to four years in prison, The Associated Press reported.

karmaaaaaa or drugs

I don't know if I'd go as far as to call it karma, since if I understand correctly, karma means something like, "what comes around goes around" or "you get what you deserve". I don't think a welfare scammer deserves death.

I think your second theory is much more likely.

I hear a bunch about the curse of the lottery, I'm willing to risk it.

As for this lady, it sounds like a probable drug overdose. Really I thought that the worse thing that would happen to her would be that she would be out of money in 3 years and back on welfare. It is sad.

What a stupid jerk she is. I hope that she is charged with fraud and has to pay it back plus some.

You know it never ceases to amaze me people on foodstamps can't afford the basic necessities of life , but can always find money for cigerets, alcohol , and lottery tickets. And yet they don't have the means to buy gas for a car let alone get a car to find a job.:sad2::sad2::mad::mad:

You are not looking at the situation through the lens of poverty. Its easy to say all of these things, but not everybody in poverty has the wisdom and know-how to get out of it. If it's how they grew up, they may not WANT out. To them, buying a lottery ticket is one chance to cover their basic needs and get ahead in life. Therefore, the risk is worth the cost.

Alcohol and cigs are an addiction. Again, if they grew up with them as a part of life, they see them as a necessity.

And please don't lump everyone on food stamps together. They're far from all being unemployed and lazy; there are over 6000 college graduates in Americorps serving your country, working overtime every week and sacrificing years of their life to make America a better place. They quality for food stamps as they work without pay, and they're far from uneducated and lazy. They're in the warzones that most of us choose to avoid, so if that's the one benefit they get, give it to them.

But, but no one is on public assistance because they choose to be, they are only on public assistance because of circumstance. That is what I keep hearing.

I guess winning a big lottery, was not enough money and she was still needing more money because of her circumstance.

Exactly, she had a drug habit and to a junkie, a lot of money only means that it's easier to continue to supply the habit.

If she hadn't OD'd she most likely would've ended up broke and still addicted.

I have to disagree with your first statement. My ex SIL has been on assistance for almost 5 years, since her daughter was born. My province doesn't make you work, if on assistance, until your child is 6 so that's what she's choosing to do. It drives me NUTS!

Especially when she went on FB and thanked everyone for working and paying taxes so that she could stay home and spend quality time with her daughter!

But, but no one is on public assistance because they choose to be...

Oh, there are plenty that CHOOSE to be on public assistance:thumbsup2

Please spend a day in my life and you will see people work VERY hard to stay on welfare. For some, it is a full-time job to be able to scam the system. More than you will ever believe.

The moral of this story?

Money does not resolve flaws in character. Or improve their legacy.

You are correct and the level of fraud can reach absolutely astronomical levels:

Jet-setting couple in million dollar waterfront home charged with welfare fraud:

Sad ending and no I don't think it was karma. What she did was wrong, but screwing your state out of a few thousand dollars does not deserve death.

Maybe it would have worked out better for her if she had gotten jail time instead of probation.
