1 credit left at 2 credit restaurant

Good morning everyone! I was going through my dining plans this weekend for our upcoming trip and made a discovery that surprised me. We are heavy on TS meals (this part I knew about) due to the fact that we are eating at several 2 credit restaurants. I have been running numbers trying to determine which restaurants to pay OOP at to maximize our benefit of the DDP. If we pay for the restaurants I would like to with the DDP and OOP for the others, we end up with a situation where we have only 1 TS credit to be used at Jiko - and of course it takes 2 TS credits. (Does that make sense? That is the part that surprised me.) Is there any way to use one credit at a two-credit restaurant? :confused3 If not, I guess I'll have to reshuffle what I pay OOP for, but I don't want to!

TIA for any thoughts!

Leslie

PS - I am editing to add that all I will have left at Jiko is 1 TS credit for an adult and 1 TS credit for a child. I know I could combine the adult credits if I had more than one but know I should not be able to with an adult and kid credit.

I haven't seen a definitive answer posted about this, despite the question being asked few times. You may need to contact Disney directly to ask (though I suspect their answer, in writing, will be that you would have to pay OOP for that meal).

I'm not an expert, but wouldn't the only way you'd be able
to do this is to have Jiko as your very last TS? I don't
think you could go there at the beginning of your visit or
at the middle and say you only have 1 credit to use.

You'd have to kind of show up, prepare to be amazed at only
having one credit left, and see where it goes from there.

Actually, it is the last ADR we have for that trip. One thing just occurred to me, though. I know I can't use the child's credit to combine with the adult credit to pay for an adult meal, but could I use the adult credit to combine with the child's credit to pay for a child's meal?

Thanks again for any thoughts!

Leslie

Personally, I'd pay out of pocket for one TS meal earlier in the trip so that I had enough for the 2 TS at Jiko. You can call Disney dining and see what they say, but even if they tell you it's possible, the CMs at the restaurant may tell you it's not. Better safe than sorry -- pay out of pocket early and make sure you've got 2 for a 2 TS restaurant.

I know that when we traveled with my sister and her family which included 2 children. on the receipt it says how many credits are remaining. It does not designate if it is a child or adult TS credit or CS credit. I hate to admit it but I know my sister did use a child credit for an adult TS meal. The CM did not bat an eye. My sister was surprised it went through but I know she had her fingers crossed. Please don't flame me it really was my sister. Good luck

This changed the beginning of the year, now it does designate between adult credits and child credits. I would not chance going to a 2 credit restaurant with only one credit left. You may have to pay for the whole meal out of pocket and be left with 1 table service credit left.

I agree, due to the billing with the DDP, I don't see anyway to use one credit at a Signature restuarant. It is not like they can split the bill for you. Best to regroup.

I'm not trying to be judgemental or anything - and maybe I just don't understand the OP but why would you try to use 1TS at a 2TS resturant?:confused3 I think that it's pretty clear in the "instructions" here and everywhere else that discusses the DDP that certain resturants are 2TS and certain ones are 1TS. It's also pretty clear that you can't combine adult and children's TS credits. Maybe you should reconsider which meals you are OOP or consider eating at 1TS resturant and save Jiko for an upcoming trip.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The DDP can sure get very complicated, can't it?

Well, only if you want it to be. Signature restaurants - 2TS. Seems simple to me!

Now why didn't I think of that  ?

I seem to recall reading a response that looked something like this

I guess that is why I thought that the DDP seemed a lot more complicated (than it should be).

OP here again. I'm going to try not to come off as too defensive, but I do want to explain a little about my question since it seems I may have been misunderstood. I never wanted to try to use only one credit at a 2 credit restaurant. I never wanted to try to cheat the DDP in any way. I was just surprised when I was calculating my credits for our trip and where we would use them that the way I had planned to use them would have only left one adult and one child. Since this board is so great at getting information and since I had never seen the issue come up, I just thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else had had this issue and if so, what happened. Obviously I'm going to have to re-work what we pay OOP. Thanks for the responses.

I'm sorry Leslie. We can get a little carried away here.

Good luck with the planning! :cloud9:

As someone new to these boards, and working to understand exactly what the DDP covers, I think your original question makes total sense. I had also wondered about how sharing works/doesn't work at a 2TS restaurant.

What I am wondering is this: Is it possible for two people to share a meal at a signature restaurant by using just 2 TS credits? I would eat the appetizer, my fiance the entree, and we'd share dessert. This would give us the opportunity to try some upscale cuisine without spending too much.

This might be the same as your original question or might not -- I'm not clear whether you would have truly just 1 adult TS credit left on your last day (and how that is possible, unless one person is skipping meals or something) or if you would have 1 credit left per person in your party on your last day.

This is my first post ever, so please be gentle!

this shouldn't be a problem...just order an extra drink and pay for it oop.

It might be worth looking at where you are eating on the rest of your plan and maybe pay oop on the cheapest one:thumbsup2

Hi Kristen, and welcome :)

Had the OP just had 2 adult TS leftover, it would have been easy to answer, but it was an adult and a child TS leftover, that is where the problems occured.

We ate at Yachtsman Steakhouse last month (great by the way). We just used the 2 TS for my husband and I bought my entree OOP. The waitress was just as nice as she could be and I did not feel funny in the least.

The only thing that I would suggest is if the waiter/waitress is really nice about it, you may want to give a little extra tip over and above the cost of what ever extra item you order. They are losing income when we do this and it may make it easier for us to continue to do this.
