Did I make it onto Page 1???

:hyper:

ETA- Dang!!! Page 13!!! :faint:

Sorry I'm late! Can't wait to catch up on your adventures. Thought of you and your family many times while you were away.

Dee

Hey Dee! I was just thinking about you and almost sent you a private message letting you know that I had started. But, I figured that you were just busy.

OK- Caught up now.

:woohoo:

What an amazing intro picture of you all! That's from your neice's wedding, right?

Yes m'am

Too funny about the resort changing. Sometimes you gotta test the waters a little bit to realize what it is you really want and why.

We did a good bit of resort touring this trip. We have some ideas for future trips.

I am so glad you grabbed your camera at the rest stop. What gorgeous pictures of the Vicksburg bridge!

I wish that I had of had more time to take some better pics but we were anxious to get back on the road.

GREAT picture of the WDW arch, and the the ToT sign!

Nice job on the lobby photos, Hunter!

GRRRR!!! On your checkin experience. I though N'Awlins was known for shrimp, not crabs! Not magical!

You are hilarious!

That CM was such a Bubble Buster! Didn't she realize you were excited to be at Disney and she should be just as excited for you?! So sad that was your first encounter.
We are flying down this year and I am a little saddened by that. Though I will love the extra time, I will miss the drive. And I absolutely loved having the car on site last summer. Made driving from resort to resort to eat so easy.

She definitely was a bubble buster! She needed some lessons in customer service, that's for sure.

How exciting you're there! :goodvibes How unexciting dealing with "Ms. Personality". :sad2:
Mom and I walked through POFQ once and we took a carriage ride that went through, we thought it was very pretty, but of course it isn't like it is here.

I was so happy that we finally arrived. Miss Personality was a pain in the behind but I quickly forgot about her.

I read this line and burst out laughing. The 3 of the 4 kids around me asked what was funny!!!!

Thanks for the smile.

Wasn't that hilarious!

You got love when the 1st person of your trip is rude. I hope she was just having a bad day and the only one you ran into during your trip.

I hope that the rest of the guests who came along after me got a better temperament from her.

So glad you made it there! Ugh what a first impression of POFQ though. Very disappointing. CMs like her aren't going to win over any business. Can't wait to hear more!

I would have kinda sorta understood if we had been moving to an offsite hotel or something but we were still going to be in Disney. What business was it of her's anyway?

Well that is no fun to have your first encounter when you get there with someone rude.. YUCK! I have enjoyed looking at your pics of the resort lobby and such though. Brings back good memories of when mom was still with us there last year. :(

I bet it does bring back the good memories! Memories to last a lifetime!

First of all, your drive sounds nice! Glad you found a good hotel that had a great breakfast.

That woman at POFQ at check-in sounds like she needs some training. What right did she have to criticize where you were staying?

She really did need some better training. Like you said, what right did she have to criticize?

I might have had some not-so-nice words to respond to that CM. I am so tired of rude people, especially people in the service industries, where it's their JOB to talk to people, welcome them etc. Just so wrong!!

I hope the rest of your time at POFQ improved from there, and at least it was just the one night if it didn't!

Nice pictures -it's a pretty resort!

We were talking the other night about how rude and inconsiderate people are. Many feel like it doesn't matter if they offend, hurt or criticize others.

It did improve....somewhat!

I'm so excited to see you've started your trip report! Thankfully I got started at the beginning so maybe I can keep all caught up! I must say, I read alot of trip reports and your reports are among my favs! Can't wait to hear and see more!!!:)

Welcome! Thank you so much for the compliment!

My head spins from your changes and that takes a lot. LOL. Would you like to know a secret? I might be switching if free dining is announced for December.
Cash is always the best gift. LOL
I cannot wait to drive down in December. I love road trips.
What a cute ice cream stand.
Nice arch pic.
I would have asked for the manager and said something about the cm at check in.
All caught up again.

See.....I'm not the only resort switcher amongst us!

I love road trips too!

I really should have asked for a manager but we were ready to explore!

Yippee your there!:cool1:

I can't believe that CM's attitude. You should have reported her to the manager but I understand that takes away from your fun times and makes the experience even less fun.

I hope its all uphill from there!

We were all ready to see the resort and, you are right, I didn't want to take away from our vacation time. She wasn't worth it!

Love the update! I hate it when cm's are grouchy!

Love the photos, Hunter is a young man!

Hasn't Hunter grown! He's gotten so tall!

Great Report :), Thank you for taking us on your journey with your family !!

Thanks for coming along!

Yippee! You're there!

I can't believe the attitude on the CM that checked you in though. That totally stinks!

We were so excited to finally have the drive behind us and were ready to see the "new to us" resort.

Hey Lisa,
Great start! I missed your first posts because work has been so crazy lately but I'm caught up now.

Had to laugh on your final packing ritual - switching from your regular pocketbook to your travel one. I am glad I'm not the only one who does this. Although it is very sad when you get back from your trip and have to get your regular purse ready to take to work the next day. :(

Mamma was so cute saying the front desk people at the hotel gave her a deal cause she is old and tired. :)

Wow the CM at French Quarter front desk was something! She sure put the "PO" in POFQ!!

Looking forward to reading more.

Hey! Good to see you!

It sure is sad to change back from your travel purse to your everyday purse. I don't wannnnnna!

Mama is pretty serious most of the time but she definitely has her funny moments.

The CM sure did put the PO in POFQ! She stunk!

Hey ya'll! I'm trying my best to get an update done today but, first, I have to load some pics to Photobucket. It's nice to have several cameras while on vacation but it's also a pain when you start trying to organize all of your pictures. I'm working on getting them uploaded to Photobucket as I type and hope that I don't run into any snags....as I have been known to do with Photobucket.

I mentioned in my first post that I sew backsacks and little girl dresses to help pay for our Disney trips. One of my Dis friends, addictedtothemouse, placed a dress order for the trip with her granddaughter. She sent pictures to me the other day and gave me permission to post them. This, my friends, is little Miss Aubree in her cute little dresses. Isn't she adorable!

Aww! She's really cute, and so are her dresses! Great job! I'm so impressed when people can sew, I can barely re-attach a button!

Both the dresses and girl are ADORABLE!!! She must have been nice and comfy in them!

Very cute little girl, great dresses as well.

Those are adorable! And that girl makes them even cuter! :goodvibes

Thanks ladies! Aubree is sooooo cute!

Awwwe thanks, we thinks she's a keeper. ::yes::
She was very comfortable in those dresses and they were super easy for dressing her and whenever we had to change her.

That's what I love about dresses and traveling! Especially to Disney in the heat when even shorts stick to her little legs. :-)

Outta my way people! I’m gonna teach you to cook!

After a less than stellar check-in by Miss Personality, we crossed the parking lot, jumped in the SCAR and drove down to Building 1. Although I guess we had what would be considered a parking lot view, it really wasn’t bad at all. Yes, we could see the parking lot but there was landscaping between the building and the lot. Very pretty landscaping, I might add.

This is our building:

See the five brick columns kinda in the middle of the building? Our room was located behind those.

The tap your card style locks that I understand are making their way to all of the Disney resorts.

We opened the door and were impressed with the room even though the furniture is a lot like that in our bedroom. Wait, that sounded dumb. What I’m trying to say is: One of the things that we were afraid of (for lack of a better term) was that French Quarter would look too much like home.....Louisiana. When we are on vacation, we want to see something different and not something that we see everyday. So, the bedroom furniture looked like our furniture...something that we see everyday.

Like I said, though, we were impressed with the room as it was pretty, clean and I loved the colors. Before we settled in, I took some pictures:

While I was snapping pictures, Mama and John were trying to figure out the thermostat. It was freezing in the room and we couldn’t figure out how to turn the thermostat to make it go off. If we turned it up, it started blowing hot air, like the heater had been turned on. The fiddled with it for quite some time and never could figure out what they were doing wrong. Finally, we gave up and just turned it off for a while.

The message button was blinking on the phone and Hunter listened to see what it was. It was a birthday message for him.

More pics of the room taken with our other camera. You can see the colors better in these pics:

Tired but happy to have finally made it back to Disney:

While the room was nice and all, we were ready to go explorin’. After all, that’s why we were trying out a new resort. We wanted to see what it had to offer just in case we wanted to stay there in the future.

We knew that we were at the end of the resort so we would have to go back to our left in order to get to the main area of the resort. We walked around the corner of our building and found ourselves on the pathway right beside the river.

Apparently, I took no more pictures of our walk until we made it back to the main area of the resort. I remember taking pics on my phone and texting them to my sister, Lacey and a few friends to let them know that we had arrived.

Mama’s batteries had died in her camera and she and John went to the store to find more. Hunter and I looked around a bit more outside before joining them.

Hunter got in on the music playing:

The store where Mama and John were:

Standing with the store to my back and looking ahead:

Looking to my left:

I only took a few pictures while in the store. Headless shoppers:

We looked to see if there was any resort specific merchandise as I had heard that it was making a comeback at some of the resorts. All that we saw was a pin and I really didn’t want just a pin so, once Mama had purchased the batteries, we stepped outside to look around some more. We looked at the pool area and then walked back to the boat dock and that’s when we realized that we had pretty much seen it all. I had read and had heard that the resort was small but it was really small.

Seeing the boat dock right there, Hunter asked if we could go to Downtown Disney for a while and I figured, why not, we had already seen FQ. John looked at me with the funniest face and said “I thought that you wanted to check out the resort?” to which I replied “We just did.”. Our option was to either walk down to Port Orleans Riverside and look around or go to Downtown Disney. Seeing as we were itching to get in some “Disney time”, we chose to take the boat to Downtown Disney.

**Continued in next post

There was a sign near the boat dock that said something like the boats weren’t operating and it confused us and another family because we had been seeing boats going back and forth. We all decided to wait and see if another boat came along and see for ourselves if they were operating. Not long after, a boat loaded with guests pulled up to the dock and we asked if they were still running to DTD and they were. Guess the sign was wrong.

Some pics that I took during our boat ride:

Right about then, my phone rang and it was my boss. The temp wasn’t able to get into the building that morning because the key didn’t work. Oh no! I had extra keys made (we also have a coded pad on the doors but didn’t want to give the temp the code so we had keys made) and I had tried one of the new keys out right in front of the girl and showed her how to lock and unlock the door bypassing the coded pad. Once I gave her the instructions, I immediately handed the key over to her. I had no idea why the key wouldn’t work.

My boss asked where we were and I told him that I was on a boat on my way to Downtown Disney. He said “So, it’s too late to ask you to come back now?” and kind of laughed. I told him that it was too late. He just said “oh” and it was so funny to me. This gruff 350 lb. man who fights with attorneys all day in and out of the courtroom sounded so pitiful. He actually said “I already miss you.” I laughed at him and said “I miss you but not the office.” He said his goodbyes and said that he wouldn’t bother me any more. I guess he just needed to vent a little.

More pictures along the way to DTD:

I can’t remember what we did at Downtown Disney but I believe we only went into the World of Disney and Mickey’s Fun Finds. We really weren’t on any kind of mission other than getting into the Disney groove and feeling the magic wash over us. Downtown Disney was pretty busy and we were getting hungry. One of the things that we had wanted to do while at FQ was eat in the food court. It was another one of those “just in case we want to stay here” things.

As the boat pulled away from the DTD dock, the Captain told us to look ahead as we could see the fireworks from one of the parks. My pictures are really bad but at least it’s picture proof:

I got tickled at Mama as we were talking on our way back to the resort and as we passed by the Treehouses again. She was saying how they were “right out in the middle of the woods, with water all around and there were probably snakes everywhere! Just look at all those shrubs and vines and grass and stuff right up under those houses. No way would I stay there!”. Why was that funny? Well, we live with woods and pastures all the way around us, shrubs, vines and grass just right there and we have seen plenty of snakes.

We made it back to the resort and walked over to the food court. We were hungry but not super hungry and none of us, with the exception of pizza loving Hunter, could make up our minds what we wanted to order. I asked a castmember at one of the stations what she suggested and she said that the chicken and ribs were good and so was the soup. John decided to get the chicken and rib plate with collard greens and some kind of rice. I didn’t want two huge pieces of chicken and the castmember suggested that I get the kids meal since it had only one piece of chicken. That’s what I ordered and chose the mashed potatoes and corn. Hunter chose a cheese pizza and they only had the individual cheese in a kids’ size so that’s what he went with. He had gone to the pizza station himself and I didn’t know that he had ordered such a small pizza or I would have told him to order two. Mama ordered the pot roast with potatoes and one other side.

This is where I completely forgot my Disboard responsibilities and didn’t take one doggone picture. Probably because I was too busy trying to wipe all of the nasty grease off my fingers and pick out the hard piece of corn cob out of my corn. John couldn’t take pictures because he was trying to pull what little meat there was off the rib and wiping grease from his fingers too. And, he was having great difficulty with the greens. They were tough as boot leather. Hunter’s pizza? Well, cheese pizza is what it is...cheese pizza. He ate it all and I tried to get him to buy another one but he said that he really didn’t want more. Mama couldn’t eat all of her pot roast and she shared with us. It was really quite good and John and I both wished that we had gotten the pot roast. As it was, John and I threw away the majority of our food and felt like the almost $40 we spent on dinner was a waste. John told Mama that she should tell those chefs “Outta my way people! I’m gonna teach you to cook!”

We sat in the food court a while letting what little food we ate settle and took in our surroundings:

We took the path straight ahead and walked through the pool area where I took pictures this time:

This snail doesn’t look very big in the picture but it was about the size of a half dollar:

I wish that I had stopped and taken a picture of this pretty fountain in the daytime:

Because of the resort’s size, we were back at our room in no time and settled down for the night. We were all tired and ready to hit the sheets!
