Morning Ya'll! How's everybody doing today? Sorry that it took me a while to post replies. Our internet router/modem/whatever-you-call-it went out this weekend and I didn't get a new one until Sunday afternoon. Honestly though, I don't think that I would have used the internet even if I had it because we were busy.
Some of you may recall from my pre-trip report that we live in a log home that we built ourselves. In the past, oh 6 or 8 months, we have done a whole lot of work to the outside of the house. Not anything structural, just cosmetic and maintenance work. We put down new flooring in our bedroom too. We also refinished the outside of both our cabinet shop and our other storage building. Once that was done, John helped his brother and sister-in-law build their new home in the evenings and on the weekends, we started our garden and we laid some sod in one area of the yard. We were busy little beavers!
Well, just when things started to slow down, I got this bright idea that we should do some interior work. Back when we built our house, brown beadboard paneling was the big thing. Now, not so much. So, we are sanding each and every wall in our house that's not a log wall and then we are painting them. In our bathrooms, we are putting up beadboard over the sheetrock and painting it too. All of the trim, moulding, baseboard is coming off/down and new is going up. I forgot to mention that the light fixtures in the bathrooms are being taken down, sanded and painted and we are replacing all of the doorknobs and bathroom cabinet knobs as well.
We haven't decided whether or not we will redo our bathroom countertops. I'm thinking that we will once the other work is done especially since we have some left over materials from other jobs that we can use. We may also replace all of our interior doors but that will probably happen somewhere down the road as the ones that we want are pretty expensive and we have to have a lot of them.
We started the project in our bedroom since it's at the back of the house and, if we didn't like the way it looked, at least it wasn't in one of our main living areas and we could take our time figuring out what to do. Thankfully, we love the new look! It looks like the inside of an old style farm house which is exactly what we wanted.
So far, in just two weeks' time, we have: 1) the master bedroom painted; 2) beadboard installed and painted in our bathroom; 3) our bathroom light fixtures painted; 4) new toilet tissue, robe hook and towel rod installed in our bathroom; 5) new cabinet knobs in Hunter's bathroom; and, 6) most of the doorknobs replaced throughout the house. John's going to stop today and get the new trim, moulding and baseboard on his way home from work and I'll probably stain all of it tonight so that it can be installed tomorrow night. Once the staining is done (I'm a master at staining and it shouldn't take me long.), we'll start sanding in the kitchen.
It's definitely a task trying to get all of this accomplished while working a 40+ hour week, running a household. keeping us fed and clothed and keeping up several acres of land but it will be worth it. I like seeing the fruits of our labors!
Annnnyway, 'nuff about what's kept me from writing. The boss was supposed to be on vacation this week but came in yesterday and will be here for a few hours today. Who knows what he will do tomorrow and possibly Friday. John's work is shutting down Wednesday afternoon and won't open back up until Monday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my boss will have that same idea. But, like a lot of bosses, he's afraid that he'll miss making that almighty dollar and may not like the thought of closing down for two days. We shall see! We shall see!
I'm off to Photobucket land to see if I can find enough pictures to write an installment. If not, I have my handy dandy memory card with me so I can upload some.
Hopefully, I'll get an installment posted this afternoon!
