1-BR vs. 2 studios for parents and 2 adult children?

While I couldn't get on the boards, I was browsing through my MS guidebook and noticed that 2 studios are no more points than 1 BR. We have 2 college-aged children who would probably prefer the increased "independence" of their own studio on vacation vs. a 1-BR for all of us. What can you tell me of the pros and cons of that arrangement? I know the kitchen facilities would be less, and there'd be no washer and dryer. Anything else?

Advantages are privacy and 2 bathrooms!

Disadvantages are less space, no kitchen, no washer/dryer, no jacuzzi and no King bed.

A couple of pluses to the 2 studio arrangement would be the extra bathroom, each child would have their own bed and additional privacy. If you don't need the kitchen or laundry facilities, I would go with 2 studios.

We went with our college aged children and even though they had the studio portion of a 2 BR, They wanted to be in the living area at night- bigger tv, etc. DH says next time we are getting 2 studios far apart!;)

I love these boards. What an excellent idea! I never would have thought of booking 2 studios in place of a 1 BR for those times when our teenage children want to come with us. Not having the washer/dryer would be a huge minus but 2 bathrooms would be a huge plus!!!!!

This also solves the problem of my kids perhaps wanting to bring a friend - there would now be room for more than 4 with much privacy for all.

Thanks for the idea.

I know in most cases point usage is an issue. We all want to stretch those points.

But a 2-B/R lock out would really be nice. The other guests would still have their own entrance and bathroom, but you still get all the amenities of the 1-B/R, which includes a great Living Room to relax and socialize.

And you would still get that great bedroom and bath that's in the 1-B/R side.

Just a thought.

I would definitely get a two bedroom for this situation.

Hey, Kem330, DH loves your DH's kind of thinking. And before anyone else gets upset, I'll bet the kids would like it as much as the adults!

We have visited WDW several times with our college age daughter. We have found that a 2 BR works best.

The 2 studio option is nice because of 2 bathrooms, but the studios can be far apart. Because she is many miles away most of the time, WDW is a rare chance to spend time together. She likes hanging out in the living room and wants to have her favorite foods cooked and eat in (she can find all the restaurants she wants near campus). She does not like having to sleep on a fold-out couch if we get a one-bedroom unit. DH and I get up early and sit outside with coffee, and she sleeps in later.

So - we have found that a 2 BR is perfect. It takes more points, but fewer days of a higher quality visit is worth it.

Simba's mom, to elaborate we had our HS daughter and her friend in the LR and 19 and 21 year old sons plus another 19 year old boy in the studio. College kids definitely like their independence and they are on a much different schedule then we are. They loved tto use the Living room because they brought xBox with them and it hooked up easily there. So several nights we kicked them out (back to their room) due to noise. It really wasn't a big deal and I did like the 1 BR arrangement for us. DH is a little less tolerant! A 2 BR should work for you or 2 studios if you want to save points. It all depends on your kids and what they are like, but I think a 1BR for 4 of you would be close quarters if they are night owls:)
