1 Bdr or studio? no kids

I'm single and have 380 points and if I could (afford it) would add on more in a heartbeat

Cyn

Well I CAN afford more. But as I only get four weeks vacation a year I like to save two for trips besides WDW.

When I originally purchased DVC, my intent was to primarily book studios. (It's just me and my DS5.) However, we had to use our developer points within a short period of time and I was able to book a 1BR. I loved every second of it. There is nothing better than having laundry in the room. With the high cost of airfare, plus extra charges for baggage, it's nice to be able to truly pack light and do a load or two to replenish clothes.

Our December 2010 trip is going to be in a 1BR, but the Spring Break 2011 trip is going to be in a studio. We will be traveling during the most expensive season, so I'd like to use as few points as possible because I need to save up a good chunk of points for a 2BR family trip that fall. The studio is going to be a good test for us because we eat a lot of meals in the villa. I have a year to learn how to cook somewhat healthy dishes in the microwave. Who knows......I may enjoy the studios.....and you know what THAT means......more trips each year!!! :rotfl:

I am luck in that most airlines give me at least on bag free as I am active duty military. But I understand those fees add up quick if every family member has to pay $25 for a bag!

Go to you locale Barns and Noble and check out the microwave cook books. You will be surprised what you can cook in a microwave.

I want two full weeks a year at DVC. This year I am getting a week at VB and a week at WDW. Next year I would like HHI and WDW. Fingers crossed for DisneyLand and Hawaii in 2012!

For us, I think it would work best, points-wise at least, to get the 1BR and not worry about the savannah view; we stayed in standard view in January and really didn't miss having the view, as we could look at the animals every time we left the room. Now, not having ever HAD the savannah view, I'm sure others would say we just don't know what we're missing! But I know we would miss having the kitchen and the jacuzzi for anything more than one or two nights. If I were going to split the stay between a 1BR and a studio, I might do the savannah view studio (the first night or two) and then the standard view 1BR...could be a tricky situation because then both ways you'd be giving up something...but it would offer some variety and you could try all the options, so to speak, so you'd know for sure what you'd want next time. (Okay, so my brain doesn't necessarily work like "normal" people's do)And that's the beauty with DVC, right, there will always be a "next time!":)

Our first DVC trip was actually a Saratoga Studio followed by a one bedroom at OKW.

I am so glad I didn't plan it the other way! I know OKW has huge rooms but we felt like sardines in the studio. Especially if you are like me and pack a lot when going on vacation, there is no where to put any of it!

I also didn't think I would ever use the washer and dryer on vacation but I did a couple of loads (it was pretty hot out when we were there and we used our clothes up faster than we thought). Just threw it in the washer when we awoke and in the dryer when we left. A little fluff in the evening and it ate up no time at all!

I know its a lot more points but we would always choose at one bedroom over a studio. (Now that we have the kids it is sort of moot.)

we stayed in a studio at first, a point savings. Then we had a 2 bedroom when my parents came with us. Well, after having the kitchen and washing machine, it was hard to go back to a studio

We did do a short trip and stayed at okw last oct, and boy was it rough after spending a couple trips in a 1br.

We solved our problem and bought more points!!

I think once you stay in a 1br you're done, studios don't cut it anymore, at least that's how it was for us. Is it worth the extra points, absolutely! to me. I like being able to get up and get coffee early, watch TV or read late, and not disturb anyone. Yes we're all on vacation but I think everyone is entitled to their sleep and a studio (w/ me it) doesn't cut it. I prefer less, more comfortable stays than more stays being stuck in a room not moving, and not making a peep. It's just a matter of choice. It's also become a moot point because it's been 2br's for last few years because we travel with an entourage of friends and family! Such fun! :yay:
