1 Aunt, 1 Mom, 2 kids - will we be sane?

Love the pics! Especially the "house" portion of the South Portland Lighthouse.

True, NE is brown in Mid-April, but I saw some spring-green buds on the trees on my way in this morning! So refreshing!

:flower3:

Well, I got home from work tonight and as I do each night, I went to the Jet Blue website to see if they have released the fares for this trip. Well, guess what, they just released their fares until the end of Jan '09.

So I get real excited, try to call DSis and get no answer. Next, I plug in out dates and .... :scared1: the flights we want are $443 per person round trip (maybe plus tax)! I then check my December dates and the prices are better but that doesn't help me for this trip.

Well, I just went on expedia and our other options are:

1) Fly out of Manchester for $302 with tax. This is an early morning flight (leaves at 6 AM) with one stop. At least we could stay at my house the night before.

2) Fly out of Logan on Delta for $279 with tax.

3) Fly out of Providence for $250-300. But the early morning flights here would require a hotel stay.

So now what do we do? Do we wait & hope? Do we wait for Southwest which although many people love it is not my favorite airline? Do we book Jet Blue and hope for a sale? hmmm, I will need to talk to DSis later tonight.

Well DSis and I just got off the phone and we ended up booking Jet Blue. When I selected the flight times that we wanted, then the prices at Manchester and Boston actually approached the Jet Blue prices. Also, Jet Blue changed their flight times and they actually moved their evening flights. So we decided to fly down the night before. We won't land until 11 PM and I will need to book a hotel for the night, but we will get to spend all of Friday in the world. I don't think we will be doing a park that day unless we totally change plans :rotfl2:, but we will be able to go play mini-golf in the morning and then head over to AKV after that and spend the rest of the day enjoying the resort.

For course now, I need to book a room. Hmmm, where shall we stay? I looked at the prices near the airport, but they aren't really any cheaper than the ones at WDW. So, we might as well stay at WDW right? Now we just need to figure out value or moderate and which actual resort? I will book something with the AAA rate and then wait for AP rates and hopefully switch to a cheaper rate.

Great pictures!

Thank you!

I think I like this idea. Maybe I'll try this.

What a great use of some free time and great weather. I love the pictures. So different from anything we are used to seeing around here.

Thank you! I have only been to TX once. I interviewed at TI in Dallas when I was graduating from college. It was in February and there was an ice storm in New England. I remember it being very green and warm (80 degrees). It was such a nice change from February in Massachusetts.

Have you been to the South Portland Lighthouse? If you haven't it is in Fort Williams Park which is an old fort that is really nice city or state park. You can walk right up to it.

Aw. You could have stayed at the Tinkerbellarella bed and breakfast. We're only 25 minutes from T.F. Green and I make some killer cinnamon rolls. ;)

Well, it dawned on me last night to check the point requirements for a AKV studio. So, I checked them this morning and it is only 12 points. Now, that adds another dimension. Instead of booking a value or moderate resort for the first night, do I book a studio at AKV if available? If I do that, then we check into AKV and the next morning, just leave our luggage with Bell Services until our 2 BR is available.

I also booked our rental car last night. I ended up booking National since due to our late arrival I wanted something at the airport. The rate was jsut ok, but I will keep watching.

Well, if you have been reading this trip report, you will know that I made my decision pretty quickly. I did post a poll looking for suggestions and then based upon people's thoughts, decided..

Yes, I know, it is already in my signature. I decided on Pop. Since we won't be arriving until midnight or later, it didn't make sense to pay for a moderate since all we are doing is paying for a bed for 7 hours or so. Also, on the AKV side, I thought about it and decided that I wanted the kids to walk into AKL for the first time when they were awake, not when they were tired and cranky. Is that crazy?

I was able to get the AAA rate but booking was a little weird in my mind. I called CRO and after the CM quoted me the rates, I had to ask if it was the AAA rate and she "Oh yeah, I forgot" (or something similar) and then gives me new rates. I decided on a standard room since the only difference in a preferred room is that it is closer to the bus stop, pool, and food court. Well, since we are only staying one night and have a car, none of that mattered. OK, now to the weird part, I was surprised that I had to provide my sister's address including zip code. I am not sure why they needed it. :confused3
Luckily, I was able to dig out my address book because I only mail something to her once a year, i.e. Christmas card, so I have no idea what her zip code is. Thinking back, this is only the second time that I have used CRO and the first time, last year, was a solo trip. My previous non-DVC trips have all been booked by travel agent.

Now, I bet you are all wondering what we will be doing with the extra hours that we now have. Well, I came up with 3 options:

1) turn it into a park day
2) move Chef Mickey to breakfast and then spend the rest of the day at AKV even if our room isn't ready yet
3) after breakfast at Pop, go play mini-golf and then head over to AKV to spend the rest of the day there (until Chef Mickey's that night)

DSis and I discussed it and we think that we will go with option 3. A park day would be nice but we are going to be running the kids ragged for the following 3 days, so a relaxing day to start off will be nice. We also decided against moving Chef Mickey to breakfast because DSis and the kids have already had breakfast there.

That's great that you got your air and everything is coming together for you. Another option on the first day could be DTD shopping and snacking - Goofy's, etc.

With the kids a relaxing first day is probably the best idea. Sounds like the plans are really coming together!

Every time I have booked through CRO, whether it be a package or a room, I've always needed to provide info for all parties in the room. Having worked in hotel reservations in the past, this seems to be specifically a "Disney" thing. My guess is that it probably has something to do with marketing. :)

I think it's so when you call them they can freak you out by knowing how many times you've visited in your life. I'm always a little baffled when I call and they are Hi, I've seen you've visited us X times before. It's always dead on accurate, just missing the one trip I stayed off-site. Don't know how they do that, especially as my first trips were as a child.

:wave2: Well, I have been traveling most of this week for work and it seems like every day when I read USA Today, there was an article on the rising costs of flying. So I am not feeling too bad about the airfare prices. Besides, I remember 10-15 years ago, when airfares were much higher than they have been recently.

Well, DSis and the kids are coming up thie afternoon and they will be spending the night. They haven't been up for a while so Belle is really looking forward to playing with my cat. Here are a couple of pictures of Daisy:

If Daisy let's her, Belle will be glued to Daisy's side for the entire weekend. Little does the cat know (she is currently sleeping on the ottoman next to me) that this is the only peace and quiet she will have all weekend! :rotfl2:

Pluto, on the other hand, will be sitting on the couch as far from Daisy as he can get. Pluto is not a big fan of pets. He prefers to see animals behind fences.

Anyways, once they are here, we will do some shopping plus DSis will help me move some things around the house. Mostly we will just be hanging out and talking to the kids about the trip to get some of their ideas. DSis has been keeping them informed but it will be nice to get more feedback from them. I also have that 2nd guide book that I bought them to give them plus Pluto's birthday present (Disney dollars). His birthday was about a month ago but I haven't seen him since before his birthday.

Well DSis and the kids are still here but I figured that I would update you on our plans. We went over the current plans with the kids last night and also looked at the menus again and made some changes to our dining plans.

Well, this is a slight blip in our plans. AllEarsNet is reporting that Soap Opera Weekend will be the weekend following our trip. So if this is true, then we can flip our HS and Epcot days. I just checked the Disney site, but they haven't posted the dates for Soap Opera Weekend yet.

Originally, we decided to do HS on Monday so that we could avoid the crowds of Soap Opera Weekend. But, the drawback was that we would be doing Epcot on the last Saturday of Food and Wine. So, now if Soap Opera Weekend is actually the following weekend, we can go HS on Saturday and then Epcot on Monday. This change would allow us to avoid the crowds for the final weekend for F&WF.

Hmm, our 180 day window opens up in a few days. I guess that I will have to flip a coin and see if I guess right. Of course, I am not too concerned about our ADRs. So if I have to change them later, that shouldn't be a big deal.

So, there is still a debate on when Soap Star Weekend (SSW - I got the right name this time - unlike my last post :rotfl: ) will be held. AllEarsNet states that it will be the weekend of 11/15. But the WDW calendar doesn't have a date yet. I asked CRO last night when I was buying my MVMCP ticket for my December trip and they didn't know. But when I called MS ( DVC Member Services) this morning, the CM said the weekend of 11/15. So what are we to do? If my ticker is correct, our 180 day window opens tomorrow.

I think that I will make our reservations tomorrow assuming that our trip will not overlap with SSW. Then, if I am wrong, I can change the reservations later.

Well, I am sure that DSis has been checking multiple times today to see if I succeeded in making our ADRs.:) And the answer is

Yes, I make them this morning.

So our ADRs are:

Friday: Chef Mickey 6:20 PM

Saturday: 50's Prime Time Cafe noon

Monday: Spoodles 7:10 PM
