Here is a quick run down of our dining experience over the last few days. We are a family of four. Me, DH, DS7 & DD3. We were on the Basic DDP 2008 plan. We did not run into any problems at all using it & it was very easy. This was our 1st time on the plan, so I can't compare to the 2007 plan. I kept all of our receipts and we "spent" $713.13 and "paid" $479.80 so for us, there was still a savings. Even w/out the app, it was a lot of food!!
1/6 50's PT Cafe: We had a 5:10 ADR so we could see the Osborne Lights (which were beautiful!). Tried to check in a little early, but they were booked. People w/out ADR's were being turned away. Seated around 5:15 or so. I got a root beer float, the fried chicken (all white) and asked for corn instead of beans and smores for dessert. DH got chocolate malt, top sirloin steak and brownie sundae. Both kids got chicken soup, chicken nuggets & ice cream sundae. Food was ok. Not bad, but nothing spectacular. Service was ok as well. We would probably not go back, but I'm glad we tried it.
1/7 Crystal Palace: Had 6:15 ADR. Checked in early and got a seat a little after 6:00. Many people were also being turned away since they were booked for the night. This is something that happened at all of our dinner ADR's for the time we were there. Food was pretty good. Everyone enjoyed everything. I do have to agree that the prime rib is pretty rare, however, you can ask them to cook your slice a little more if necessary. We saw tigger, pooh, eeoyre and piglet. It took about an hour for all characters to come around. Luckily while we were eating we missed a pretty hard rain outside! The kids both gave CP a
We would most likely do this one again.
1/8 Princess Dinner Akershus: Had 6:05 ADR, tried to check in at 5:45 & was told we couldn't until 6:00 & to come back then. Ok, not a problem. Came back at 6:00 & was called in at 6:05. We were seated in the section where the princesses come out. Now I've heard that some people felt too rushed when the princess' come out right after another, but we actually liked it. We got our drinks, went to the cold buffet which had meats, cheeses and cold salads ate that and then our hot entree was served. Kids both had pizza, I had an adult portion of the kids cheese ravioli and DH had the venison. He said it was very good and would get it again. My ravioli was alright. I think it was just the texture of the cheese on the inside. Unfortunatley I have texture issues
Anyway, first came Alice, then Pocahantas, Jasmine and Cinderella. Ariel was in front taking photos. It was nice to see them all in a row then the kids could focus on actually eating, rather than waiting and looking around wondering when the characters would hit our table. We then got the plate of desserts. They were all wonderful!! We were very full, but ate most of it!
1/9 Coral Reef: Had 6:30 ADR, asked if we checked in early if we could be seated early. They couldn't guarantee it so we just came back around 6:20 or so. Was called in at 6:45. This place was very busy & people were being turned away w/out an ADR. We were explained everything in detail and also most of what was on the menu was explained to us in detail. We had a wonderful server who was very knowlegable. We were on the 3rd tier, but was able to see everything in the tank. The kids loved it!! We ordered everything at once, but didn't have to. She said that if we knew and wanted to we could, if not that's fine too. Since we knew & had little ones figured may as well order all at once. Kids had the standard mac & cheese/pizza w/fries and the ice cream at the end. DS pizza was not very good. None of us really liked it. It seemed like the crust was a little undercooked. It was fine since there was more than enough food on the table!! I had the strawberry freeze, NY strip and chocolate wave. Everything was excellent! DH had sour apple freeze, the king crab legs & the baileys & JD mousse for dessert. He said everything was excellent as well. Just a note, many people have complained that the chocolate wave is too rich now and miss the ice cream. When I ordered I just asked if I could get a small scoop of ice cream. She said she would put it down. I told the server it was fine if they couldn't or I'd even pay for it. Well, it was brought out at n/c and it went very well w/the dessert. We would definately go back here again
1/10 Kona Cafe: 5:00 ADR, checked in and was seated w/in 5 minutes. The place filled up very fast and was full in no time. Our server was not that great, but the food was!! Kids had chicken soup, burger/hot dog w/fries & again a make your own sundae. Luckily both my kids are big into ice cream!! I had a raspberry smoothie, filet mignon & fondue. DH had strawberry/banana smoothie, shrimp & scallops and the sugar free apple stack dessert. The bread that was brought out was fantastic!! This tied w/the Coral Reef for our favorite place to eat. Would come back again to this one as well.
Overall, the DDP worked pretty well for us. We had misc snacks such as popcorn, ice cream treats, churros, make your own candy @ Goofy's Candy Comp, frozen sodas and lots of other things I can't think of right now
CS meals were at Pizza Planet, Cosmic Rays, Main St Bakery, French Bakery, Electric Umbrella, Refreshment Port (AKA Mc Donalds) and food court at ASMovies.
Sorry if I rambled & hopefully I didn't leave any important stuff out!! Any questions, fire away!!
