minimum is 500.00 deposit! Anyone have a savings account w/Discover? seems like a good rate as crazy as that sounds...but wondering how it is to do banking w/them...

I opened a Discover Bank savings account a couple of months ago. I can't remember if there was a $500 opening deposit required back then. Haven't had any complaints. They have one of the "highest" interest rates around right now, so I opened one in addition to my HSBC savings accounts.

The only cons I have are (1) you can't sign up for paperless delivery, but they said they were "looking into that option" when I asked about it and (2) if there's a way to directly apply a Discover credit card payment from your Discover savings account, I haven't found it. In fact, there are two separate log-ins, which is kind of a bummer because I'd like to see it all in the same place. Ah, well. That's what mint.com is for, I guess. :)

Good luck!

We have had Discover Bank CDs, although the majority of our cash is at Ally Bank. Their rates are slightly lower than Discover Bank's, but I'm not about to switch to save .01-.10%.

My bank currently offers 2% on savings. I think my credit union might be slightly higher but there hours are no compatible with my work schedule. Didn't realize I had such a good rate.

Oh, for the days when passbook accounts paid 5.50%, and our NOW checking account paid 5.25% - instead of the paltry 0.05%!

My checking account at my credit union pays 4.1% up to $25,000. Try looking around at credit unions. They pay a much higher rate than the regular banks usually.

We have Majestic Checking at Royal Banks of Missouri for some of our savings, but I write checks and pay bills from our local bank that pays practically no interest. The Majestic account requires 15 point of sale debit card transactions per statement cycle, one direct deposit or automatic debit per statement cycle, and e-statement to earn 3.51% APY on the first $25,000. http://www.royalbanksofmo.com/home/personal/checking/majestic

Wow. Lucky! :thumbsup2 Our credit unions here aren't much better than the banks.
