1-3-04 Western Days 2 and 3

Day 2 - We slept well the first night. I woke up early enough to watch the sunrise from my porthole. We received our Mickey wake up call. Time for our character breakfast! Photographers follow the characters around and take photos at the tables. Some of the characters that we saw were: Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale, Pluto and Goofy. We went to see Freaky Friday at the Buena Vista Theatre then it was time for Key West. We found the conch train office easily and got tickets. We had to wait awhile for a train to come along. The seats are cramped and were really hurting my knees by the end. We found the tour to get rather boring (was too long) we were baking in the sun - we were in the last row of a car so the awning didn’t always cover us. We were actually glad to get off of the train. If I go again to Key West I would take a trolley that has stops that you can get off and on at. We went back to the boat for lunch. After lunch DD and Nancy went shopping. I walked 2 miles back to the Southernmost point with my DS to get a photo. On the way there we stopped at the butterfly farm - which he really liked. There are butterflies fluttering everywhere, but they actually avoid landing on people - they are looking for flowers. You can study them while they feed on the flowers. We then walked back to Mallory Square and found that the museum and aquarium were closing (around 5:00). We had wanted to see the shipwreck museum… We had some key lime pie - my DS did not like it but I did! We went back to the Magic and went to the Who wants to be a mousketeer show. We wanted to get picked, but of course didn’t. On to dinner - I had the Lobster appetizer, sweet onion soup, mixed grill with beef sirloin, lamb and bacon wrapped sausage then finished it off with pecan pie with bourbon sauce - all yummy! We went to the gift shops again, then family karaoke, then to our room where we got our first towel animal of the trip - a crab!

Day 3 - We slept in until 9:00. Went to Topsiders for Breakfast. We were there no the end of the time and did not see an omelet station. I am assuming that they take it down early? We loved the ocean view of the restaurant. We looked at the Navigator to decide what to do. DD missed the registration the night before for the all day teen activity so she couldn’t participate - she could just watch. DS was interested in some of the Oceaneer Lab activities. Nancy went to the Plate decorating and then the gemstone presentation. I checked out the secret deck on 7 - it was extremely windy. DD and I ended up taking a nap. We all met up for the walk down the red carpet for Disney Dreams. It was very good. Since this was formal night and we were dressed up we had formal photos taken with two different backdrops. The lines were not that bad. We went to see the Magician act real quick and then on to dinner at Lumieres (we did APL just so we would end up at Lumieres on Formal and Semi formal nights and Parrot Cay for the Mexicali night). Dinner was great - Escargot, Cream of cauliflower soup, Lamb shank and creme brulee. Our server brought an extra Grand marnier white chocolate dessert for us to sample - it was good. I was stuffed - actually was very uncomfortable sleeping that night - was wondering if late dining was such a good idea after all! We got a cobra for our towel animal. Before retiring we went for a walk - it was once again extremely windy. We were excited for the next day - Grand Cayman!

Thanks for the great reports. SOunds like you had a fantastic time. I am trying to make my plans as we leave in 3 days and was wondering if the red carpet walk was for the Golden Mickeys instead of Dreams? We are trying to figure out what nights the shows are and I thought that Golden Mickeys was on Monday.

We are also going on Captain Marvins and Swimming with the Dolphins!! Keep 'em coming!!!
