1/25/20 and 1 day ticket question

I am taking my daughter on a college tour to UCF this day which will end by 2pm. Currently, MK closes at 8pm. Anyone have a guess if that will be extended? I am thinking if hours are extended we will plan on going. Also, I have never purchased a 1 day ticket before and could only find an option on Disney’s website for a dated ticket. How do you buy a one day ticket that doesn’t have a specific date attached to it? I was thinking of doing that just in case the weather is bad or we are just too wiped out to go (that is unlikely; however!).

Buy the ticket (if and) when you get to Magic Kingdom. Discounts on one day tickets are small and/or rare enough that you might as well walk up and buy it at the gate.

Or y ou could buy it in advance and if you don't use it on that date you could trade it in towards a current ticket when you visit at a later date. Expired tickets can be traded in but are not bridged (to current gate price as of the date of trade in).
