I'll just bring brochures and hand them out :teeth:

Wish you could join us... :guilty: ... you know I really mean it! :confused3

I don't feel so lonely now. I was starting to get really worried. :earsboy:

We were slow starters, but we're just coming out of the woodwork now! :rotfl:

Hello All! Thanks for such a warm welcome. :sunny: You are all a lot of fun! I also LOVE the helpful suggestions I got in curbing my guilt for leaving my children behind. My pal MelissaE1 has already come up with a way to make this guilt even less. :cheer2: It seems like there are many fun and experienced people on here. I am so glad to be part of this group. I think we have the late dinner seating. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy...I am starting to get excited already! :Pinkbounc

Hey Alvaro... when you get back from being a celebrity on that other thread... :rotfl2:

First of all, I checked out the Pancanal website you listed and I must say I am fascinated, so I hope you weren't joking about passing out brochures. :teeth:

And did the Magic swipe the side going through? I was wondering how the heck they all keep from doing that. What are those little car things that ride next to the ship? In the historic pics you can see lines going from them to the ship, but I can't see them in the modern pics.

Sorry for the questions, I am sure you are tired of answering them, but what an amazing thing!

Melissa :)

Ask away Melissa... I love answering questions about the Canal!

I haven't talked to either one of the pilots who were on the Magic last Sunday, but chances are they did touch the walls more than once. Considering she is 106 feet wide and 965 feet long, and the locks chambers are 1000 feet long and 110 feet wide... you bet ships that size are bound to touch at some point during the transit. We do our best for that not to happen, but sometimes its just inevitable :earseek:

The "little cars" are electric locomotives (called "mules"). We use them to keep the ship from touching the walls while we move inside of the locks. They attach to the ship using wires (2 from each locomotive). The Magic uses 8 locomotives (16 cables). They are made by Mitsubishi and each one costs $2M - $3M.

...and I wasn't joking about the brochures... I just have to make sure I don't forget :confused3

Alvaro!

Thanks for the facts and figures about the canal ;) We were on the May cruise (but never got to meet you :guilty: ... if you look closely at our small pictures you can see your buddy Elaine!). We thought we were VERY close to the sides! ::yes:: My goodness 2 feet per side to spare... no wonder we scraped going through one of the locks!

You are going to have SO MUCH FUN on your upcoming cruise!!! :Pinkbounc

I see Elaine... HI Elaine!!!... :rotfl:

There are very few ships more than 106 feet in width which are allowed to go through the Canal. One of them, I believe, is one of the big battleships... I think she was about 107 feet.... very scary!!! :earseek:

That's all the incentive I need... :earboy2:

I got Mickey mail :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
We went out of town for the holiday and when I returned, I had a package from DCL. It was a vacation planner listing shore excursions, gifts, etc. and a letter with the due dates for payment and when to start making ressies. I love mail from Mickey. Earlier, I was just happy for the Mickey mouse in the happy meal from McDonald's. :cool1: :cool1:

Our packet came too! It finally seems closer and more real. Now that school, the soccer season, etc., have started, the time will fly by!

We've decided to book the dolphin encounter excursion through DCL, which we'll try to keep as a surprise for the kids.

Even though I didn't post, I enjoyed reading all about the Panama Canal experiences! I am intrigued enough to start thinking about a Panama Canal cruise--of course on DCL, if they do it again!

Wishing you all a happy Labor Day. Enjoy it!

Hi, everyone! I've been fairly hesitant to post, because we aren't 100% sure we'll be able to go on this trip, but I don't want you all to have all the fun! :earboy2: So, I've decided to introduce myself to those of you I don't already know!

Keith and I live in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and have 3 four legged children. :dog2: :pug: :pug:

We're going on this cruise to rest up from the 14 Panama Canal cruise in May.....it was an awesome trip, made so special by all the "friends" we got to meet. We've been on several cruises, 1 four day to celebrate my niece's high school graduation in May '04. The rest have all been on the Magic, but I've decided I like the decor of the Wonder much better! Triton's to me is so much more "themed" than Lumiere's. And I REALLY need someone to remind me to get a pic in front of Ariel in the lobby...PLEASE, someone remind me!

WeLuvDCL, glad to see a familiar name!!! Can't wait to see what pics you come up with on this trip! I really enjoyed seeing the CD you sent to Elaine and was SO happy you got a pic of the arrow directing us to the left into one set of the locks! I missed that pic, and hadn't seen anyone else's that matched what I remembered.

AlvaroLuis, what can I say? Am I going to get to sit at the same table with you at least once?!?!? :confused3 We are going to have SO much fun....here I go, still not scheduling any down time....:rotfl2: I'm still going to need a vacation, I can just see it now!!!

So, I guess that's it! Howdy again, and let's chat!!!! :goodvibes

I haven't got anything in the mail yet... :confused3 ... guess it take longer to come aaaaalllll the way down here... :earboy2: ... but it'll get here... eventually...

And.... HI KELLI!!! :wave2: :wave2: :wave2: ... so you finally posted here! :teeth:

I can feel it already... :goodvibes :goodvibes ... this will be a great 4-days cruise... We'll fill our days with activities... we'll have a schedule posted on everyone's cabin door by 5:30am every morning... and will make sure nobody misses ONE activity.... :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc  :moped: :grouphug:

(just kidding Kelli.... sort of...) :rotfl2:

Hi Kelli!! Glad you finally posted! You need us to convince you to take this cruise! I'm glad you liked the pictures, did you get to see the video too? I look at a few of the pictures at least once a week. We had so much fun I don't want to forget a thing! I really wish I would have kept a journal too, I'm definitely doing that on future vacations. Cant' wait to have a mini Panama reunion!!

We got our packet too! Just a little over a month before we can book excursions and Palos!

Greetings from L.A.! We've just booked our first Disney cruise and are really looking forward to the experience. Being long-time AP members at DL convinced us that we needed to join DVC and heck, why not throw a cruise in there at the same time.

Looking forward to a great time on the Wonder.

Welcome Michael and Marc! :wave2:

We're building up a nice crowd for next January's cruise... guess we won't get bored at sea! pirate: :rotfl:

Hello Karin and Brian, Kelli, Michael and Marc. :wave2: I was just checking in to see how our thread was doing.

Since school and soccer have started it seems like time is going so much faster. Once Halloween gets here time just seems to fly until January... yay!

One thing I realized that is so great about the four day itinerary... usually Castaway Cay is the last day, so it is sort of bittersweet. But this time we have a whole day at sea to look forward to after CC. :Pinkbounc

I got the "Mickey Mail" too. I guess they just started doing that... you only get one if you're cruising after Dec. 1. Pretty cool little packet if you ask me. :)

Oh, by the way Kelli: this is already me -----> so if you go you'll be in good company. :rotfl2:

Just giving this thread a bump. DCL shows that all cats 9,10,11 & 12 are sold out. So there must be more Dis'ers out there....come join the fun!
