1/22/2006 Roll Call for Wonder Cruisers

Hi all! I haven't posted for a while but we are still sailing with you all! Although we don't have a docs yet. The rest of the family received theirs. I don't get it, we are closest to the port and always the last to get our docs. :confused3

I got the boys 2 pillowcases for signatures, our personalized Disney T-shirts arrived last week and I'm going to work on the door signs this weekend. I'll try to post a picture when I'm done. I'm trying to make this special since it will be their first cruise and we are old pros. :teeth:
If any of you have any helpful tips for kids club/activities please share. This will be our first cruise with kids so I know nothing about that part. They are 7 & 8.

How wonderful you all are teachers. The main reason our cousins are taking this cruise is to celebrate his graduating with a Masters in Educations! He would like to become principle of the middle school he is teaching at in SC. Here is the graduation door sign I made for him.

very nice sign! Glas to see that you have rejoined us on the thread. Let the countdown begin! :cheer2:

Doing the docs dance!!! :cool1:  They were on our doorstep when I got home today!

Got docs from TA today. Also a former teacher here. Stay at home mom now and lovin' it. Funny how teachers LOVE Disney. Must be the kid in us. SO CLOSE NOW!!!! WOW!!!

Your door sign is great! I had a split second of time over the holidays to think about doing one, but I decided not to. I'll probably regret it, but I have to save something for the next cruise! I think that I'll be having one or two mat boards signed, however.

Because we haven't cruised, I don't have any advise about the kids clubs. Sorry! I don't know if my kids will even step foot in them. There's a few activities that I would like to see--like the do-si-do with Snow White.

And many congrats to your cousin! :cheer2: That's a lot of hard work, esp when teaching full time!

This is really funny! Okay....so what did you teach? I taught jr high/high school English. If I had teaching to do over again, I'd probably do elementary. If I had my masters to do over again, as I said, I'd choose speech. Funny how once I had kids, my interests changed, but I have no time to pursue any of it!

We were in San Diego over Christmas, stayed down in the Gaslamp about a block from Petco Park, gorgeous hotel called Solamar. Marc's father lives over in South Park so we had a couple of nice days down there.

A former teacher here as well.... well, technically I guess I'm a former student teacher. I received my degree in music education, K -12, and after I completed my student teaching I did realize that the classroom really wasn't for me. To all those who are teachers, I salute you all!

A New Year's cruise sounds great! I priced an April 2007 DCL cruise through Costco and was amazed at the difference in cost when compared to the agency I used for this cruise. The only thing that would stop me from going with DCL is that as a former Princess Cruises employee I can still find a few deals out there on Princess. We are doing the DVC members cruise in October so I know we have at least one more Disney cruise coming!

The boxes with costumes are being packed and heading out to UPS next Monday. YEE HAW!!!
Michael, I didn't last much longer than you! I was laid off, and being desperate, I took the first thing that came my way--as an editor for an educational software company. It was nice to come home and not have to work. So that type of job stuck until I had kids and quit work completely.

We don't get much time to be tourists in our own city. I will remember that hotel. That area is so nice now. I hope you weren't here during those three or so days of rain! 80 degrees today--amazing!

Now, was Costco more or less than the agency you chose? I should check with them too. I'm going to price new years 2006 (because cat 3 in 2006 is still refundable) and then 2007 for both 7 night and 4 night. Might be out of our range, however, esp at cat 3, but I think we're going to end up spoiled.

Costco was surprisingly lower than the agency we purchased this cruise through, but I must also say that this time I was pricing a Cat 3 cabin. There was a total difference of almost $850 between the 2 fares. This was the 4-day in April 2007. I did note that some of the other categories were much closer in cost, with Costco still winning.

I will say that I have had absolutely NO problem with the agency I chose this time around, and, if I had to do it over again, probably would go right back to them, IF it wasn't such a huge difference in a Cat 3. However, I'd probably look at a Cat 6 and save the extra pennies to pay for the bar bill, which just seems to go higher and higher, day after day! The scary thing.... we booked a Cat 3 for the DVC members cruise in October... yeah, we're REAL nervous about that, cuz I'm sure we'll want to try and get one of the suites sometime after that!

Hey all! I'm still here too, but don't know what to contribute! Our docs on on their way. They went to our TA first and I got an email detailing the shipping status yesterday.

Education, eh? Well, I've worked for the 4 largest instutitions in Indiana and am now back at my alma mater, Ball State. Anyone heard of it? We have about 20,000 students. My masters and doc are both in higher ed; I don't think I could spend all day with 30 little kids all day! My friend, Kara, (also on this cruise) used to be a math teacher, but quickly moved out of that and is now a Finance/Facilities/Info Tech director at the Indiana community college. Wow - this education link between all of us is a little freaky!

On the side I also teach algebra online, which I really like. I'm sure someone just gagged on the "algebra" and someone else said "algebra online?" Yep!

I've never been to a DIS meet before. What does everyone talk about?
P.S. We are arriving on the 19th around 10:30am and are taking Magical Express. Anyone else?
Gayle

Ok, just call me a geek but I love Algebra. And I took all my college math courses online. I would take math over writing a paper or doing a speech any day!! I'm very logical thinking, guess that's why I'm a programmer. :badpc: :rotfl:

Our cousin also teaches math, not sure if it's algebra or not. It's actually my DH cousin so the love of math runs in both our families!

DIS meet is just a "get to know your other Disney fanatics". We pretty much talk about the same things as we do on this board, just so much nicer to talk face-to-face! :chat:

We'll be at the port by 10 or 10:30 - after all, we don't have far to go. Staying at the All-Star Music after the cruise.

We are taking macial express on the 19th but not till around 1 pm so you'll be long gone by then. I really like math too, but the only time I regretted taking a college math class was when our community college hired a physcology teacher to teach Finite math. I want a correct answer and want to know the exact way to get it. He kept saying......."I want you to think about the answer...." I would get furious because I didn't want to think about anything. I wanted to correct answer, and I wanted it now!!! LOL

Wishing everyone a great weekend. We're in Palm Springs for a weekend of dog shows so won't have a chance to really catch up with folks until Monday. Until then, stay warm.... 15 days to sail

Michael--What kind of dogs do you show?? Have fun!

BTW, thanks for the Costco price info. Congrats on your cat 3 for the October cruise! If you ever get the Roy or Walt suite, let us know so we can book the same cruise as you!

Thanks Karin! I have officially decided to head down on the 20th as soon as I get off of work. I just got a room at ASMu and we will probabl spend Sat at a park. Probably EPCOT, but I am not too sure. Woohoo! Anyone going to stick around the day we disembark for the passholder preview of Expedition Everest??? I think we are.

Amanda--I never had a chance to tell you what a fun story and great pictures you posted about your MIL! It is an incredible gift to her. It will be fun meeting her too!

I agree, what a great story Amanda. I bet she is really getting excited now. Do your boys know yet?

I may sound out of it, but what is Expedition everest? :confused3

We have a 1:30 flight to catch back out of MCO so we will probably head back right after disembark.

Unfortunately, like Julie, we have a 1:30 flight out of MCO. We'll probably spend time in the parks on our next visit to Florida. We didn't want to overdo it on our first trip!

Expedition Everest is the new rollercoaster at Animal Kingdom. It is the highest one at Disney wiht an 80 foot drop!!! :scared1: Here is the link http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/attractionDetail?id=ExpeditionEverestPage.

There is a passholder exclusive preview from 1/26-1/29. We get to ride first and get a special pin. We are going one (or more) of those days, not sure which.

Wow that will be cool. We are visiting parks precruise but obviously are not AP members since we are from Iowa!

I think we will be at MGM that day and then if the little ones get bored head back to MK for the final evening! :flower:
