Does any one know when you receive some type of information packet about the race?

Specifically what time or day you have to be at the place where ever that may be to pick up your chip and shirt, etc?

Thanks

1st 1/2 marathon

I believe they send out race packet info around the first of October.

You'll be picking up your number/chip/etc at Wide World of Sports on Friday (pretty much all day, I think). It's crazy and crowded but gets you pumped up for the race.

Last year was my first half and this year I'm doing the full.

Have fun!

TDisney, :welcome: This is the greatest place to come to with all of your questions! Check the Stickies at the top of this Events/Competitions board. The one with Marathon Frequent Questions might help alot. The other thing that I did when I first joined, was to go back in the Weekly training threads to last January and read through all of the reports. If you're like me, you just can't get too much information.

The Expo is actually 3 days: Thursday afternoon, all day Friday and Saturday. Once you have registered for the half, you'll be getting updates from WDW sports. In the mail, you'll receive a program book of events and a waiver that you have to bring with you to the Expo. The waiver has your number on it..so you'll know that in advance. Last year, they published the program online for those of us who couldn't wait to see it. When you arrive at the Expo, you'll probably want to get your stuff first..so you'll stand in line and get your number and chip, then a goodie bag, and finally your shirt. There will be vendors from all over: shoes, apparel, nutrition, other race events; there will also be scheduled speakers.

Please join us in the training threads. We have all shapes, sizes, and speeds. Some are doing their first event and others their 30th. We have all races covered: Kids, 5K, 1/2 and Full..so come on down! :goodvibes Anne

Is it an all day thing when you pick up your packet ?
You can get it and out relatively quickly considering all the people. I think it took us about 1/2 hour and then we wandered around all the booths and shopped. They're open something like 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Hello TDisney

The packet you receive in the mail in October or early Novemberwill tell you the hours of packet pickup and the trade show. As well I recall the times are posted in the web site.

Pick up begins Thursday, but sorry, I cannot remember the precise time. I remember it being about 1/2 day Thursday and all day Friday and Saturday. You'll need to get there Thursday or Friday since you'll be in the starting corrals around 6 am Saturday.

You come into the Milk House in the Sports Complex and turn left, down the corridor to a staging area. They have booths which are clearly labeled Half, Full, and Goofy. The boths are sorted by your number, so you'll need that, plus you'll need the liability waiver anyway. You get your packet and take the champship chip to the electroncic sensor, put the chip down, and see your name and age pop up, yes that's me.

Then downstairs to the trade show, and it is a very good one. You also pick up your t-shirt in the trade show area, along the south wall. We tend to spend a bit more time at the trade show, looking and buying, and usually bumping into friends.

Oh, and expect to park a really long distance from the Milk House, it's quite a mob.

Thursday the Expo has been opening at 3 pm for 2005, 2006 and 2007.

We try to be there when they open simply because that is the day we fly in and like to get it out of the way.

In 2006 I recall being on a bus sometime around 2 pm or a bit after from OKW to the Expo. In 2007 the OKW bus was doing what they called 'dry runs' at 2 pm. They told us they wouldn't take anyone until 3 pm. Grrr. We called a cab and by the time we arrived there already was a line. BUT!!! It moved very quickly, it's pretty well organized.

The waiver you will need to have signed. I've been stopped twice by the people at the end where they direct you to your pick up booth. So in 2007 I made it a point to sign it before arriving LOL

It's going to be a great time!!! Happy training!!!

Don't forget you will want to bring your photo id. They do check if I remember.

Welcome to WISH! Please do stop by the training thread. We would love to chat up with you as you make your journey to the half!

Depending on what you want to buy, the early you arrive the better selection of merchandise and size selection. In 06, I arrived Fri for the Goofy and most sizes were picked over. This year I arrived on Thurs and there was all sizes in everything for the Goofy. I will always go on Thurs for this reason and to get it over so I can relax.

Lily is right that the check photo ID.

See you in Jan:banana:

Oh, I'm hoping to be at the expo first thing Friday. Here's hoping I can still find some stuff in my size to buy..!!
