1/10/09- EARLY Roll Call! Who's coming?

The closest thing I could find for Castaway Cay:

High: 78 °F Low:62 °F

This was from Marsh Harbour, Abacoa Islands. Let's hope that it's warmer on Castaway Cay. I got a kick out of this line:
And never forget, the weather in Abaco is almost always MUCH BETTER than it is wherever you came from.

So sorry to keep writing but I have to keep my leg immobile so I have plenty of time right now to surf the web! :headache:

Sounds like the weather will be great, and the water a little chilly.

So sorry to hear about your kneecap. Take care, and get feeling better real soon. :grouphug:

oh no!! I feel your pain with your knee, I have done that many times and had surgery on it in 1985....I have not worn heels since. I am going to wear black pants, fancy top and low shoes to Palo .....you will look fine.
Feel better...

OH NO! Tiggerlover I hope you get well quick!! I love that you had time to get the weather for us though but I wish you had done it under different circumstances. I have had check weather on my to do list for several days but never seem to get to it. Thanks and feel better.

:)

Weather update from SLC- it is 5° tonight and supposed to snow all week. Where is "Mr. Plow" when we need him? Oh yeah, he is packing for the cruise!:)

Can't wait to be warm again!

Actually, I get to start packing Tuesday! Tonight was my last night of actual work, but tomorrow I have to go to training all day. ::cop: Everything around here is a sheet of ice, but one thing is certain, my Mr. Plow shirt is clean and ready to go in the suitcase! The kids are already packed and headed back to school tomorrow. We cut out our magnets for our cabin door this weekend so that is finished. DW and I haven't even started to put our things together. I've planned this trip for over a year and we'll be packing to the last minute! :sad2: Anybody else in the same "boat" - so to speak? ;)

Happy Monday!!!! A week from today, we are at sea. :cheer2:

I hate Thursday sea days, though. That means we are near the end of our cruise.

I'll be thinking of you today, Tiggerlover2. Please let us know how you are doing.

Jan

Thanks for thinking of me Jan! You know how it is when you have a toothache and it's time for your appointment and suddenly it's all better? That's where I am now, LOL! I keep saying it feels better! (OUCH!) Not really, just in my mind! Hee Hee! I know there is fluid because of the lumps and bumps and you can see a gully where the kneecap is supposed to be, yuck, yuck, yuck! Sorry TMI I know! :sad2:

On a good note, we are getting closer! I can almost hear the horn. Hearing all about the snow,I feel kind of guilty saying that we wore shorts yesterday and opened our doors & windows on the house since it was such a nice day! I think it is supposed to get a little cooler this weekend but how cool I don't know yet.

Have a nice day! As Mickey would say, "See ya real soon!" (At least I hope so! I will lay in the floor and cry if the Doctor tells me I can't go!!!!)

I am just starting to pack now. Well, sort of. I've had a bag out for a couple months that I'd throw things into when I thought about it (FE, pillowcases, etc). I packed that bag last night. I still have to pack all our clothes, food for the ride down, swim suits, all those extra shoes, etc. And, we leave tomorrow!!!! ACK!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your knee!! I sure hope it's better before the cruise. Good luck at the doctor's!!!

DON'T TELL HIM YOU'RE GOING ON A CRUISE!!!!!

Jan

We just got our FE's from Tiffany and my wife says they are great!! I can not wait to get home tonight to see them. Hope everyone has a great rest of the day!!

Well I made it home from the Doctor in one piece. Ouch! My knee cap is now once again where it is "supposed to be" so now I have my leg wrapped and have to keep it elevated & iced for the rest of the week. I have to take steroids and anti-inflammatory medications for the next few weeks and if the swelling doesn't soon go down, I will have to have the fluids drained. Please keep your fingers crossed because I promised to obey all his orders so I can see Mickey! My Doctor is a frequent cruiser on DCL so he "feels my pain" so to speak. I am trying to remain cautiously optimistic that I will feel better by Saturday.
Thanks again for all your well wishes! :flower3:

Tiggerlover2- If he doesn't ask, "So are you going on a cruise this weekend?" - you don't have to tell. I totally agree with Jan. SHHHHHH!!! Good luck we will be thinking of you today.

Glad things went well at the Dr. I hope you get feeling better real soon!!!

What a relief!!!! How nice to have a doctor who is a Disney addict.

We leave tomorrow and I'm having a rough time packing. I think I can get everything for the six of us into 9 bags (these are small bags! One bag for each of us; one swim bag; one "cruise" bag - FE gifts, dress shoes, etc; toiletries bag (which may fit into our "cruise" bag - we'll see); carry on bag. I think that's it!). It's the trip down I'm having trouble with! We're going to go from 28 degrees to 80 degrees in a couple days and we need to have all combinations of clothing for inbetween. For SIX of us!! Then, when we get to FL, I have to do laundry, because we need the underwear from the trip down for the cruise.

I was hoping to have a little fashion show for dh tonight so we could decide which formal/semi-formal/dressy stuff looked best on me. But, now he has a meeting until 10:30. Ugh.

And, to top it all off, we had a bit of a scare. When we were on vacation in Sept, we had to fill ds' prescription for his asthma. We JUST noticed today that they used the WRONG DOSE!!! It was totally the pharmacy's fault - the prescription it right on the box. The doc just called back and all is well. But, now Will may be used to the higher doseage and the lower one may not work as well. Ugh.

I think I'll have a glass of wine and relax a bit!

Two questions for you experienced cruisers if you don't mind putting a 1st time
DCLer at ease:

Is January weather with temps in the 70s warm enough to get full enjoyment out of the pools, etc?

How serious is the norovirus threat?

Thanks!

From what I understand the pools are heated. The ocean on the other hand might be kind of cool.

My wife an I have been on a few cruises and have never had any problems with the sickness.

Tiggerlover2 - hope you are doing ok. We can help you get around the ship! Nothing will stop you boarding the Magic on Saturday.

Jennifer - safe travels this week. I chuckled about changing clothes as the climate gets warmer in your travels. Layer the kids with a t-shirt and sweater. By the time you get to Kentucky/Tennessee, the winter coats come off. By the time you get to Atlanta, the sweater comes off.

Cruisin1 - We should have temps in the low 80s once we get to Key West and beyond. The pools are heated. Average pool water temps are in the high 80s. If the pools aren't warm enough for me, I head to a jacuzzi.

As for the norovirus, a couple of DCL cruises ago, the virus was widespread, but DCL takes a lot of precautions, in my opinion. Fortunately, I've never been sick on the ship. You will not be able to walk into a restaurant without washing your hands with the anti-bacterial towelettes. I carry instant soap with me just for precautionary measures. Of course, with kids, it's hard to contain a virus, but we have to think positive that are cruise will be uneventful regarding the norovirus.

Safe traveling to Orlando/Cocoa Beach everyone. See you in 4 days!

Jan

I should be easy to recognize at the terminal/ship because I will be the one with the goofy grin pasted on. Even though my knee is throbbing I can't help but smile thinking God willing, we will be onboard Saturday morning! Woo Hoo!

Jennifer- Hope you have a safe & fun trip down! I miss the days of "How much farther?" Really I do! Glad the prescription fiasco turned out ok! :scared1: I think my husband is worse than the kids when it comes to packing. I bet he has at least 20 shirts and 15 pairs of shorts.pants and a suit laid out! Yikes! I am going to condense his load and we only live 3 hours from the port and I don't want to haul all of this. No wine for me for at least 7 days with the medications that he gave me or I might be the next one overboard! Yikes!

On the last cruise on DCL, I took my sister with me and after previously sailing on CCL, I was used to the constant requests of the waiters for you to buy drinks so when we went in to see the Golden Mickeys, I ordered us both a Planters Punch (non-alcoholic), because without the big straw you'd never know that there wasn't alcohol in it and it kept the drink requests down to a minimum. Anyhow, when we went to dinner after the show, here comes a waiter and I politely refused and told him, "No thanks we just had a Planter's Punch and you know how strong those are!" He just nodded and smiled and was about to move on until my "brilliant" sister said, "But of course ours didn't even have alcohol"! I could have climbed under the table!:headache: After that every time I saw him he winked at me! Boy was my face red!!!!!

Jan, It's so nice to know that we have an experienced sailor on our sailing! The countdown continues! Did you sail on the Wonder last January or February on a 3 nighter?

I bought some stickers that are supposed to be removable but I wasn't willing to take that chance so I just cut up the magnet that came with my medication and glued that to the back of them. Hope this holds them all up, so far so good! :)

Hope everyone has a magical day! Looking forward to seeing you all Saturday!
