Received my invite to the Nov 21st Doorway to Dreams event. Thinking about taking daughter and grandkids. There will be a Dis meet Dec 7th when I am down at WDW. Will have to see if our schedule allows since we will be at Epcot the night before and after. Not sure I want to do 3 in a row ESP w/ Osbourne lights. Also found a thread stating DVC holiday party starts Dec 10th at Contemporary. This will be convenient since we will be at BLT. Will not be long before we leave.

We got our invitation today too. Trying to decide if we will attend, although I'm a big sucker for these events. They are always fun.:yay:

I love their big events- so much fun w/ the characters. Liz was 7 months for the Sept event. They were so sweet with her. I really would love my first Christmas DVC ornament. I know I can get this at the holiday party in Orlando but I really don't mind getting it ahead of time.

... and a lot less chance of it breaking on the trip home too. :)

Lets be very clear here, WALLY did not gain any weight during the Food and Wine Festival.... Very Clear !!!![/SIZE]

You are correct Shawn. I didn't see that he gained anything despite eating what amounts to half a cow in 2 days.

Hi Terri,
Today Laran was helping me dump out a bunch of old alcohol (I know, it sounds like alcohol abuse) and one of the four packs was called calypso made by Segrams. Any relation to your name ... or where did you come up with it?

I never seem to have old alcohol :rotfl2:
Nope, no relation  Calypso is actually the kennel name used to identify the show Goldens I have bred or owned over the years. Each dog has a registered name and their call name (everyday name). For example, my old retired girl Ophelia is CH Calypso's The Udder Woman. Her daughter is CH Calypso's Purrsuit Of Purrfection (call name Kitty Kat) etc. When they earn their Champion title CH goes in front of the name per AKC. Here are a few of them if you want to take a look http://www.calypsogoldens.com/goldens/opie/opiekids2.htm

Trust me I am no farmer, but my wife was and in-laws are. So Lara and I have about 25 head of Black Angus. Several were registered and showed. Their names are typically a derivative of their Bull and Cow bloodlines. We never qualified very high in the national competitions, but probably have some of the best in the area. Are your dogs named similarily?

It is just amazing what they go through to show a cow/bull. Probably everything you do for the dogs, is done for the cows. It's like taking a cow to the beauty shop ... I'm not kidding. Shampoo, cream rinse, blow dry, trim (specific to breed and gender), gloss, darken the hair (dye job), etc., etc.

When Lara logs on here, she can explain it better (or more accurately).

I know what you mean. I will start 6 weeks in advance for grooming and a show groom takes me several hours from bath, to blow dry to trim etc. I do understand how the naming in show cattle works. It is not too different than certain breeds of horses. In dogs however it is a bit different. The kennel name, Calypso, in my case identifies the breeder and sometimes the owner to anyone looking at a catalog. If there are two kennel names it could be due to a co-ownership between two breeders, taking a stud puppy or purchasing a puppy from another breeder to add into your lines. In my breed the rest of the registered name will be a theme for the entire litter. The theme identifies the litter, or sometimes the sire or the dam. The breeder chooses the theme and all puppies are named accordingly. For example, I had a "Purr" litter and all pups had to have the word "purr" in their name. Kitty Kat is Purr-suit Of Purr-fection, her champion brothers are Purr-Cedes Benz, and Indecent Purr-posal.

Cool. This will be the something I learned today. I guess maybe because the litters are larger with dogs, it would be too difficult to incorporate the sire's and the dam's names into a unique name for every puppy. I think they do it with cows because often the sire is a big name bull (thru artificial insemination) and thus adds some name association to the calves.

To the Parrotheads that responded to my inquiry about any one the cruise, how about getting together on one of the Castaway Cay days?
If there is any interest I will try to coordinate making it happen.pirate: argh.
