The best advise I can give to a first time cruiser is this: don't try to do everything there is to do.
DCL Cruise Directors are very good at making sure there is something for everyone happening at all times. When you check in at the terminal they will give you a navigator. This will tell you everything that is going on that first day of the cruise. Then each night your stateroom host will give you another navigator for the next day. Read through these navigators and pick out what you want to do. If you are planning another DCL cruise, book it while you are on the ship to get better on board credits and a 10% discount. And they only require 10% down instead of 20%.
