Hi all :cool1:

I have taken the time to read all the older posts and found an interesting one from Darcy ... What did you have to do to apply for SURVIVOR?!?

Karen :flower:
I thought that went unnoticed! I had to do a 3 minute video-fill out a 12 page (ouch) application with all kinds of ???'s-had to have a copy of passport or show proof of applying for a passport (now I have two times I can use it!) and send in a passport size photo. if i make it to the 800 semi-finals i'll have to go to Chicago in August, if i make it after that they fly you to LA in September and then from there...it is off to the secret location in October! I could do all the gross stuff and the challenges-the biggest thing for me would be being away from my kids!
On another note for the t-shirt idea-we call this the double scoop of castaway cay-maybe we can do something with an ice cream scoop or sundae with two scoops or something like that-just an idea.

Darcy - sounds like a pretty involved process. I would SO not be a Survivor type but I think it is very cool that you are! I have a friend here in town who has also applied - wouldn't it be strange if you both made it on and I knew two people on Surivivor??? Well, good luck and I hope it works out just as you wish! :wizard:

I was thinking about the double scoop/ice cream cone idea too. I didn't know if anyone thought that the grown ups (read men :rolleyes1 ) would think this was too kid-like though. I looked at the designs that the repo cruisers had on zazzle and I was very impressed with the quality of the artwork. Let's try to throw around some ideas and see what we can come up with and I'll get my dh started. Do you want a large picture in front or a smaller "pocket" sized picture to the side? Do you want anything on the back? Do we want a picture of the ship itself or just the name/logo? Like I said, starting throwing out ideas and let's get started!

Good news - we were able to get first seating after all and got our first choice of cabins (7504/7506). So we are all set to go - wish it wasn't so far away but it will certainly give us plenty of time for more planning!

Hope everyone has a great Friday! :cheer2:

We are using an ice cream cone on the 05/27/06 cruise as well. It is the very first special sailing. I am tickled because I am actually the one who started calling it the Double Scoop group! LOL Now I have inspired Teeshirt designs! LOL
Darcy, I think that is soo neat that you tried out for Survivor. I wonder how they pick the cast?

Oh no - we fell off the first page!! So I am going to bump this back up to the front so that all of us can find it easier.

So, anyone else have any input on t-shirt designs? Do you want the ship incorporated? Do you want to use any particular colors? Small or large picture on front and/or back? Any character preferences or do you prefer no characters? Let's try to get a few ideas together and see what happens. I like the ice cream already mentioned but obviously we'd like more input so we can be sure to do something that pleases as many as possible. So any ideas would be most appreciated.

My dh and I celebrated out 11th wedding anniversary yesterday - we took the kids with us to Outback. Not really a romantic night out like we usually do but we all had fun nonetheless.

Hope you all have a lovely end to your weekend!

Rhonda one day and one year more than you all! LOL we celebrated our 12 yr anniversary today ! only DH is working today due to all the rain! I am being lazy!!!

OK-our's is 6/26-will be 12 years for us as well-guess cruising time isn't the only thing we have in common!
the t-shirt design here is my opinions: design with wording on front-maybe name or date on back. i'm not real artsie fartsie so that is all i got!
anyone ever go to universal orlando or IOA? we are going in august-i have been on those threads but didn't know if anyone here had any first hand experience/advice?
darcy

Wow - 3 of us June brides, huh?? Isn't it funny the things you'll find out you have in common with fellow cruisers! Well, happy anniversary today Amanda and on the 26th Darcy

So, perhaps a design of some sort (maybe ice-cream related) on the front with wording/dates on the back? I keep hoping some kind of really unique idea for how to incorporate DCL and CC and the ice cream will pop into my mind but I should know better since I am definitely not the creative one in my marriage. Once we get a consensus on the basic design I'll hand it over to dh and I think he'lll be able to come up with an idea or two for us.

Need to get DD to bed - VBS starts tomorrow and first day of swim lessons too so she'll need her sleep (me too!).

I'll check back in tomorrow!

Thanks Tadsmommy for your vote!

Anyone else have any input?

It is awfully quiet around here - where is everyone????????

I just got my first copy of the Passport for DCL - they didn't have one for our last cruise and although I will likely buy the next version next year I couldn't resist buying this year's edition as well. I also bought the Official and Unofficial Disneyland guides as we are headed out to CA in October. Anyone else visited DL/DCA recently and have any tips?

Well off to do some work around the house - have a great day everyone!

Hey Rhonda,
I guess we are the talkers this week! I have never been to DL or DCA-I've never been to California for that matter! Would love to one day...I was on that zazzle dot com-trying to get some ideas-ther is a lot to look at! I hope your hubby can come through for us! well we have another storm brewing so i better go batten (sp?) down the hatches!

Thank you! Sorry I havent been around much...I have 3 other cruise meet threads that I am active on...one is from a cruise cruise last Sept that we still chat on, one is for my upcoming sept cruise, one is for may 27/06 and then of course this one........Plus I have had this thread going for a while now, and it never got much posting action! LOL I am having to get used to people posting to it everyday! LOL:rotfl2:

Hello Amanda and Darcy!

Guess we may be the only chatters of this thread - I doubt we'll make it to anywhere near the pages of the 5/27/06 thread but a page or two a day isn't out of the question, is it? :flower:

Amanda - I think your little boy is about the same age as mine. My ds Pierson turned 2 on 5/8 - is that close to your son's birthday? I thought you said he would be 3 on the cruise. My daughter will be almost 6 and a half on the cruise - I think your daughter is quite a bit older though, right?

I know you are very busy with your other cruise threads but don't forget about us poor 9/16 buddies - we need your posts too :cheer2:

Darcy - I see that you are headed off to visit Universal soon. We enjoyed Universal/IOA before we had kids but have only gone once since dd5 was born. I am sure we will go back again but will wait a little while so that the kids are old enough to appreciate those parks. They are at such the perfect age for Disney now that we have a hard time going anywhere else :earsboy:

There are indeed some great things on zazzle.com - some very talented people have done some great work. My dh is very talented (although he would deny it) with graphics etc. and with some good suggestions he should be able to come up with something very nice.

I am looking forward to meeting you (and your families) both next year and hope that we can have lots of fun posting until then!

Have a great evening,

Rhonda, yes our sons our only 8 days apart then, as Nathan's B-day was 04/30! Are you hoping for the potty training to be done by this cruise? I sure am! LOL One of my other son's would be closer to your DD's age. My Max will have just turned 7 on 08/07........then my DD will have just turned 10 on 09/09 and my DS would be 11 on 07/13....unfortunately...sorry to say...although I have the whole family booked right now, it is highly doubtful that everyone will be able to go on this cruise. We will have just taken the 05/27 cruise, and the reason I chose that cruise is because my DS would be starting middle school on 06 and he does not need to miss that much school, in what will be a new enviroment for him. This cruise will more than likely just be me and DH, or heck maybe even just me! LOL

Amanda,

Well, if your kids come along that will be great but I completely understand why you may decide to come alone. There will be plenty of kids onboard so I am sure mine will find someone to play with although it would have been fun to meet your lovely children.

I read some more in my new DCL Passporter last night. I am wondering what the differences will be in regular dining (which themes which night etc.) as well as in Palo (which days for brunch and tea) for the Costa Maya cruises. We absolutely loved Palo last time and definitely want to go to all 3 meal options there again (we actually had dinner, brunch twice and tea in 2001). Since this cruise is a new schedule I am wondering if anything will change or will it follow the western schedule. Anyone know or have any ideas? I guess worst-case scenario we can wait to hear back from those on the earliest of these sailings (I believe that is you Amanda, correct?) and we'll have just enough time to plan before our 90 day window to make reservations.

Hope everyone has a lovely day. I'll check in later and see if any other chatters showed up!

A big hello to everyone!! :wave2:

I have still not completely unpacked from the 14day repo and have undertaken the HUGE project of cleaning out our garage ... have been putting this off for more than 7 years!! :teeth: We homeschool, but I gave the kids this week off (then we have 3 weeks until our summer break) as I really want to start the new school year off with organized garage, closets, cupboards, etc. This has never yet happened, but geesh ... ya gotta set goals. :earboy2:

I had to take a quick break and say "hi" :Pinkbounc as my mind (and heart) are on the Magic. My friends recognize my "glass-eyed daze" as severe cruise withdrawals. I just got back from buying Lottery tickets as I am hoping for at least a big enough win to book another cruise ... like tomorrow!!

Does anyone else crave chicken fingers at odd hours of the day? :rolleyes1 Gotta love 8:30 dining to allow for 4:30 chicken fingers!!

Take care all!!

HEy Rhonda! A big EWW on the tea at Palos from me! LOL I tried it for the first time this past November for a DIS meet and I was not impressed. Of course I am a southern sweet tea drinker, not a english hot tea drinker! LOL I will stick to brunch (awesome!) and dinner (SUPERB!)

Hey Amanda & TADsMommy!

Good luck TADsMommy with your summer cleaning projects - I desperately need to do some of the same but alas have not yet started. My dd will be going to a "hybrid" school starting with kindergarten this year - she will go to school two days a week and we will homeschool the rest. I had thought about doing full-time homeschooling but I wasn't sure if I was up to it :) so this is the perfect solution for us.

Amanda - sorry you did not enjoy the tea at Palo. I too love sweet tea (Texas is not Southern enough to have sweet tea in most restaurants but we still drink plenty of it!) but still enjoyed the tea. My only complaint was that it was very hot at our table during tea and it compromised our comfort quite a bit (especially when trying to drink hot tea!). I understand you not wanting to return though if you had a less than magical time on your previous visit.

Well time to do a bit more research for our upcoming Disneyland trip and to return a few emails etc. I will check back in with you ladies tomorrow.

Have a lovely evening,

SleepingBeauty ... If I can help answer any questions or make suggestions while you plan your Disneyland trip, please just let me know. We go to the park many times each month, and have learned some really great tricks on how to make the most of the day (and save some $$). If you want to meet up during your trip, we would love to "bump into you" for a few minutes or whatever time you have available. I am not offended at all if you just want to keep it a family vacation, but it would be nice to put a face to a name.

Take care!!

Karen

Hey Karen,

Thank you so much for your offer. We could use any tips you'd like to pass along about DL/DCA. I have only visited DL once about 15 years ago for a day trip and the rest of my family has never been. We are planning 3 or 4 days in San Diego and 6 days in Anaheim (5 at the parks and 1 travel day). We are meeting up with another family (friends my husband met through work but the rest of us haven't met them) which I have never done before so I am hopeful that all will work out well. I have been corresponding via email with the mother/wife of the group and we are getting along well so far. She doesn't seem to understand my overly compulsive planning but then most people don't!

We will be there when POTC/BB and SW are predicted to be closed which is a BIG bummer but at least we'll get to see HHM (we are planning to travel October 20 or 21 through 30). We could use some tips on how to best see the attractions and on places to eat. I received my DL books this week and have skimmed through them - they don't seem to offer the level of detail that I like :rotfl2: but that is not entirely unexpected. I want menus and specifics on characters etc. and that seems to be something I have only found online. So if you know any good family-friendly places we should try I would love to hear about them.

We are planning to do the Fantasmic Dessert Buffet - hopefully on the balcony if I am lucky and get through quickly. I know this will be a big splurge but I really want to do it since waiting for a good seat with 4 small kids just sounds torturous plus there is chocolate involved so it must be the right choice!

We are staying at the HoJo in a suite. We really wanted to stay at the GC or DLH but our travelmates were not into that so we compromised with the HoJo so we could all at least be in the same hotel. HoJo's has promised to put our rooms as close as possible so hopefully they will follow through with that.

We don't have a reservation in San Diego yet - any suggestions? We really like either a "suite" type room with a completely separate bedroom area or two connecting rooms so that the kids can nap/go to bed early and we can stay up a while. I haven't done much looking there yet - that is something I need to get to. We are planning to visit the zoo and Legoland and Balboa park. Anything else you can recommend we make time for? Feel free to post here or PM or email me if you'd prefer for any of this info.

I would love to meet up with you while we are there. I seldom get the opportunity to meet other DISers and since we'll be fellow cruisers it would be great to meet you in advance. As we get closer, let's try to plan a get-together!!

Well now I am running late for getting DD to VBS so I had better get off the computer. I'll check back in later to see what else in going on here!

OH cool! Our first pre cruise mini meet in the works!!!! Rhonda it sounds like you are going to have a great trip! Take lots of pictures! I still need to get my pictures in the computer from my trip to WDW last week!
Karen,
I dont know why, but I have no desire to go to DL. I went as a kid once, and it just doesnt seem like it has the same "magic" that WDW has. Am I greatly mistaken!
