09/15/07 Early Check in September 15, 2007 Eastern

Good morning everyone!!! :sunny:
Great start at the website Lisa! Just a few things...my name is only spelled with one M (Kamy, not Kammy) but it is no biggie! :)
Also we are on deck 8 and Stephen's parents are on Deck 6. We have early seating.
Once we decide on a name for our son, you can post that too! LOL!!!! We have narrowed it down to two, so we should decide soon!! :goodvibes
Here is my getting to know you list:
1) Favorite music/performer? I like lots of stuff...all time favorite is Elton John...I love almost all country music and pop/rock stuff....I just love music!
2) Favorite dish? Pasta - all time favorite food is cereal though! :p
3) Any Pets? 2 dogs (Koda and Tinkerbell)
4) Any hobbies? I LOVE to bake, had a cake business in NC before we moved!Or how about substituting your greatest casual interests? also love singing, crafting and reading
5) Any rants? friends who give up on you..... :guilty: And people who don't like Disney...are you serious?!?! :confused3 And those who go to WDW in the summer and complain it is too busy and too hot...hello?!? no kidding! LOL! :p
6) A surprising thing you've encountered, seen or experienced? same as above...believing you have friends for life and they stop believing in you and being there when you need them most
7) What region or city did you grow up in? Grew up in MI, but since college I have lived in 6 other states
8) What are you "NOT"? lots of things! LOL!!!!

Lisa...GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for putting that together! It will be fun to see how it grows. Tom and I are in 5636. We used to do Cat 4s. LOVED them. But then thought about our little getaways...and love the seclusion of the Navigator verandah! :thumbsup2 Even with our kids now...we tend to go with two cabins. Our Abby is not too tall yet...but getting there. She is 14, and still has a good year of growth left, according to a few docs. Her shoes are size 11s!!!! Her hands are almost as big as Tom's! We hope the boys are going to follow suit! Anyway, when we try to put everyone's stuff away, it is nice to have the extra storage space. Some time we would like to be like Disneynut1955 and get one of the suites!! Then again, I would be happy with any of the suites! This cruise will be my 16th...14th with Disney. Tom's 12th...I think. We definitely prefer DCL! OH...we are early seating for dinner...and actually hope for Palo's on the first night.

Haven't been on in a while. Our oldest son had been on a basketball team where one of his teammate's dad was his coach last year. During the year, the coach had some health issues. Things looked hopeful, and then at the beginning of the school year we were told it didn't look good. One of the finest men I have ever met passed away this week. It has rocked our kids and their school, as this is the sixth parent/teacher to pass away in just a few years. It is nice to be able to come to the boards and be lifted. Thank you all...for the joy, the planning, the banter, the sheer pleasure of life!

I know what ya mean...

Most noise on the ship in my cabin does not bother me. And you DO have the chairs and cocktail table above ya so that should help - plus I think you might have carpeting there on just that spot! Let me see if I can dig up a photo... :confused3

At any rate... just for the record... I don't shoot any of my show photos with a flash. I have a DSLR which has extremely sensitive low light capabilities plus my primary lenses have image stabilization mechanisms to enable hand held low light shots. PLUS on some cruises I've brought a tripod/monopod into the theater to further stabilize the shots. I know EXACTLY what it means when they announce that flash photography is forbidden! Courtesy to others as well as the performers is a huge concern. AND... I imagine no one wants ME to start flash photography with the big flash gun I have on top of my DSLR... it could light up the entire Disney Theater when dark for a decent shot at f4, ISO 200! In fact, I've taken hand held wide angle shots of the whole theater by flash gun - but AFTER the show with the whole place empty.

At any rate - I don't shot the shows with a flash ... ever! And I kno you were not hinting that I did so... ;)

You are right, I was not inferring anything. This past cruise is the only one that has been a problem. There are always been flash photos taken during the show but it was non stop this last cruise. I am sure that this next year will be better. We have never had too many issues on our cruises. Nothing big enough to make us stay away. Again thanks for the heads up with the noise issue. If I hadn't already checked it out, it might have been valuable information. Mouser/Lois

Good Evening Everyone -

FYI... I have update the website with all the changes that were PM'ed to me or posted so far in this thread..... I am going to work on putting a link to the website in my siggie (but I have to figure out how to do that first) ;)

Edited to add: I figured it out... There is now a link in my siggie to the Web stie that hosts the roster for our cruise!!!

Jan :earsgirl:
I am so glad you confessed that!!! I started a spreadsheet to try to keep it all straight and that is what inspired me to start the website...

Captaincrash - Thanks for the info on the staterooms. Fortunately, DH & I are not too sensitive to noise. We booked this cruise using our DVC points so we would have to pay an additional $75 to make any changes to our ressies so for us it is not worth it to change rooms. Speaking of DVC, I got an awesome call yesterday. It seems that Disney is decreasing the points cost for the cruises next fall so we got a refund of 28 points  That was a great unexpected surprise!!!!

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! Today I went dress shopping with my mother with low expectations of finding a dress...I was just browsing...and I FOUND MY DRESS!!! :cheer2:  :Pinkbounc It is officially ordered. It will arrive in 3-4 months and then take 1-2 months for fittings and alterations so I ordered it just in time. It was such an amazing experience shopping with my Mom and trying on all the dresses. The staff was fantastic and I got a lot of attention and felt really special. I knew when I found my dress that it was The ONE...kind of like Patrick. I got all teary...couldn't help it! I can't say much about it because he reads these boards but I actually felt gorgeous in it and I can't wait for him to see it on the day! Eeek! :bride:

You have a beautiful family. Has anyone warned you that the kids will, in time, be teenagers? They say that is God's way of helping parents to let go. Believe me it works. But there is hope. I made it, my kids are now 30 and 31 years old. And let me tell you the grandkids make all the sleepless night well worth it. Really kids are a gift that must be treasured for they alone are our hope for tomorrow. Mouser/Lois

How exciting!!!!! Let us know what the date is so we can all be with you in thought. A wedding is the day you and yours stand before family, friends and God and declare your love and devotion to each other. It is the start of all the hard work. I have always believed that Love is a decision. Each morning you decide that you will love and honor that person. Of course, it takes two people to make it work but if both people make that decision each day then before you know it weeks, months and years have past. It is late and I have rambled much too much. I hope for you as much happiness as I have found. Mouser/Lois

8) What are you "NOT"? Thin :rotfl2:

On Elton and Madonna... I do enjoy listening to these sort of popular performers... well... they're pretty big ICONS in our pop culture - so maybe they are a little more then simply popular! But - I can share that I too have wanted to see a big name music star in a "grand" super performance of some sort... and I finally did a year or two ago when I snagged a few box seats for ... are U ready?.... CHER! It was loud and glitzy - and far more entertaining then I expected. Now Madonna in concert... you KNOW that's gonna be spectacular!

On dining "likes"... shoot, reading about Prime Rib and Shrimps, and pasta... well that's all stuff that gets my appetite going. WHy just this morning I made a mess of pasta - semi-scratch sauce and trader joes' turkey meat balls. My concession to slightly healthier eating. BUT the Prime RIb admission... just earlier today I was thinking about lawry's Prime RIb and creamed spinich... oooohHHHH!!!!

Yeah... on the pet thing... it seems as if our cannine pals have good company on this sailing. We have a huge 105+ pound Samoyed... and we've Sammys for 20 of the 22 years my spouse and I have been together! Plus we had dogs when we were kids (before we met).

On hobbies and crafts... I think its' really adventurous to be a PADI scuba diver + have a professsional baking background. Neither of these are in my personal history as I can't swim very well or bake worth a darn. But I imagine the digital scap booking is something I have mused over a bit. I have 10s of 1000s of images and I would like to take my image and life chapter sharing efforts to the next level... and digital scapbooking sounds quite interesting.

On rants and surprising expereinces ... I can only say life is too short to come up short on friends and family - OR - to take anything too hard or seriously! I have had so many close to us develope terminal or chronic illnesses in the past year! I know these issues are life changing and SERIOUS ... and everything that can be done should be done ... and expertly, at that! Prior to that it was indeed all "happy go lucky skipping along" for my spouse and I. But with so many at or near our age - plus some elder folks who are close to us coming down with these health threats... it has shifted my POV and life perspective. Just today at lunch over a play date with old friends I was sharing my new simplistic life mantra... "find out what makes you happy and try to do more of it... that's all there is to it!".

And kamgen and Lisa0503, you two plus everyone who has shared a little of their past on where they've grown up - I think it is truly so amazing how DIVERSE the histories have been for where everyone has grwon up and traveled as a result. Especially so to ME since I've lived so close to where I was born (I've never lived further then about 60 miles from the hospital that delivered me!). As such... anyone who has had the pleasure and adventure of living in a widely or varied range of places has my ... envy.

And as for what EVERYONE has said about "what they are NOT?"... it's been fun seeing how folks responded to that query! Cheers to all for their candor and good humor in posting a little something here!

Anyone else wanna step forward and try their hand at responding to the "get ta kno" thing? And IF there are any queries for which you don't have a convenient response... well then shoot... just SKIP it! I guess that last bit of encouragement applies if you wanna skip all :rotfl2: 8 questions too!!!

G'nite folks.... :thumbsup2

PS... below are a few replies on this question game for convenient reference... (1st ... my own responses):

captaincrash said:
And may I suggest a get to kno game? Something to pass the week away ....

Here's how it works... simple really.... how would you respond to the following EIGHT random questions? Answer as extensively or lightly as you wish. Maybe some of us have more of interest in common then we realize?

1) Favorite music/performer?
2) Favorite dish?
3) Any Pets?
4) Any hobbies? Or how about substituting your greatest casual interests?
5) Any rants?
6) A surprising thing you've encountered, seen or experienced?
7) What region or city did you grow up in?
8) What are you "NOT"?

And I shall kick it off with my responses to the above...

1) Jazz vocalists and otherwise I enjoy a wide range (except rap for one), and I still enjoy music from the 80s/ Al Jarreau, George Benson, Keal'i Reichel (Hawaiian Folk), Sara Brightman, Stevie Wonder, and lots more!
2) Favorite dish for me is gonna have to be Alaskan King Crab with Prime rib. Really it's TWO favorite items! I also enjoy most desserts without whole nuts. I dislike having the nuts lodge in my teeth.
3) We have a huge Samoyed DOG... and we've had Samoyeds for 20 of the past 22 years.
4) Digital Photography and related diversions, and exploring the web. And I'll volunteer my casual secondary interests... things regarding aviation, financial/investing pursuits, astronomy, and computer strategy games. I'm also a science fiction fan of sorts. In particular I enjoy things relating to Star Trek and Star Wars, plus divergent imaginative varients that are not twisted or too extreme... if you kno what I mean.
5) I would have to say two things ... I have do not like mean people or wreckless drivers. Now - some might say that was an easy choice but it is true for my point of view.
6) I've seen a car race past me and lose control about 30 yards ahead of me (not my falut) and cross the center line and hit another car head on. Tragic and thought provoking. PLUS I'll add that I've seen a car flip end over end about 75 yards ahead of me while it was in a transition ramp - no obvious reason why it flipped but it was another sobering observation.
7) I've always lived in Southern California and grew up primarily in a couple of different cities as my parents had two primary homes ... Malibu (beach community) and Monterey Park (6 miles east of Downtown LA). One home was near the family business and the other was a kind of mid week escape home. We split our time betweenthe two pretty evenly.
8) This one might have been confusing to some... but as a truthful example... I am NOT a Football or sports fan. Some assume all guys like sports of some kind. I only watch the playoffs - and then only if someone tells me the games are on! And I'll volunteer that I (we) don't watch any TV regularly... as in sitcoms or any series.

AND I'll post my spouses' replies when I can corner her for candid answers... :confused3

Nice idea, Captain!! :thumbsup2
1.) Michael W. Smith
2.) anything chocolate
3.) beta (fish) named Stitch. He is the cause of every mishap in our house. If the coffee maker is set but the timer not turned on so the coffee is not ready when we wake up, Stitch turned it off because goodness knows I turned it on.
4.) e-mail, knitting, reading, walking, crochet, sewing
5.) got to go with the Captain on this one--mean people
6.) our DSs were both born at our home. The MD came to me--well, actually, DS#2 beat the MD. Some people think we were nuts but in our area at that time the hospitals were big into INTERVENTION which meant I would not be able to relax and let the process proceed as it should because they would be MONITORING something or CHECKING something with their new medical TOYS, DH practically has a panic attack driving past a hospital let alone going into one, we lived 45 RURAL miles from the nearest hospitals and we knew MDs who would come to the house. SO, it was a well researched and prepared-for event each time.
7.) Modifying this to include all the places I have lived.
I grew up in upstate New York. Syracuse for 4 years and near Utica (Whitesboro) for 14 years. I went to college in Troy for 3 years, then two years on Long Island, finishing college in Brooklyn, then back to upstate NY for 14 in one house and 9 months in the other in Rensselaer county--on the east side of the Hudson, across from Albany. 7 1/2 years in Bethlehem, PA where DS#1 and DS#2 now live. 10 1/2 years in Valparaiso, Indiana and now almost 2 years in Indianapolis in the NEATEST CONDO GOING! No grass to mow or weeds to pull.
8.) I want to be able to say I am not bossy so I work hard on that.

Yes, great idea!

1) Contemporary Christian music
2) Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes & gravy
3) We have one cat
4) I love to read but with 2 small kids I don't get much time to do it.
7) I was born & raised in a small town north of Houston (Tomball) We have just recently moved to Magnolia which is a little further north

Here are my answers. This is my second attempt, my first attempt got delected before I got it sent.

1) Favorite music/performer? I prefer Rock from the 70's. But I will listen to almost anything but RAP.

2) Favorite dish? I will eat most anything. I really enjoy well prepared fish.

3) Any Pets? In our home there are 3 dogs ranging in age from 7 years down to about 1 year. We also have two cats ranging in age from 9 years up to 13 years.

4) Any hobbies? Or how about substituting your greatest casual interests? I have practiced Chen Style Tai Chi for almost two years now. It is becoming an important part of my life and my health. I have begun to teach Tai Chi in the last six months. Maybe I can support my Disney habit this way.

5) Any rants? I have many small rants in my life but none that are large. I have to agree with other's that mean unforgiving people can kinda get under my skin.

6) A surprising thing you've encountered, seen or experienced? The fact that I flunked out of high school but was able to (later in life) go back to school and get my BS, graduating with honors.

7) What region or city did you grow up in? I was born in San Francisco CA. My dad was in the Navy and we moved to Okanawa when I was Ten. At 13, we moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah while my dad fought in Vietnam. From there we moved to Brussle, Belguim when I was 16. Then back to the states when I was 17 to Norfolk VA. I married when I was 18 and My husband & I moved to Great Lake Il, to CA to UT Back to CA to Norfolk VA and finally to the grand state of Missouri. We Divorce in 1988 and I remained in Missouri. I finally landed in Kansas City Missouri in the early 1990. I still claim "planet earth" as home.

8) What are you "NOT"? "PREFECT" Although I keep trying I still make regular mistacks almost on an hourly basis. But as long as I live I will strive to continue to grow and improve, becoming the best person I can.

Grandma4ever said:
Hi, I'm Janet. I will be traveling with Mouser/Lois/Grandma4ever.....

1) Favorite music/performer?
I prefer various rock artists. Mostly from the 70s and 80's. I like some of the oldies.
2) Favorite dish?
ceramic

3) Any Pets?
I pretty much have three dogs and two cats. I really like dogs. I have had pets for as long as I can remember.

4) Any hobbies? Or how about substituting your greatest casual interests?
I am active in Tai Chi (Chen style). I love cop shows. It started with my desire to be a a police officer. I majored in CJ. I had a major reality alert while in college. I realized that I would not make a good cop for the following reasons.

A. I don't like blood. (first to arrive to a scene of an accident)
B. I'm scared of the dark. (I'm sure how you can see how that could be a problem)
C. I have no sense of direction (I'd be stopping at 7 Eleven for directions on 911 calls).
D. I have no ability to describe people (putting out an APB on someone with a couple arms and legs isn't too discriptive)

needless to say the world including myself are better off with me watching cop shows after hours and a social worker for employment.

5) Any rants?
I have issues with extremely arrogant people and the fact that there is no spell check on this site.

6) A surprising thing you've encountered, seen or experienced?
I passsed college algebra.

7) What region or city did you grow up in?
Woodstock Illinois (north west of Chicago). The concert was in Woodstock New York

8) What are you "NOT"?
Competitive

Mommaraven said:
Okay, okay...here goes.

1) Favorite music/performer?
I love pretty much anything but rap and R&B. I love Sarah McLachlan, the Dixie Chicks, Evanescence, Nickelback, Lifehouse, Avril Lavigne, Carbonleaf, Edwin McCain...and too many others to mention

2) Favorite dish?
Pasta. I love me some Italian food. I'm a carboholic.

3) Any Pets?
Nope. I think we might eventually get a dog, but none right now.

4) Any hobbies? Or how about substituting your greatest casual interests?
I love to read. I'm such a book nerd. Reading, writing, watching movies, painting, hanging out with family and friends...that kind of thing.

5) Any rants?
According to my best friend, there is a special hell for people who do not fill out all the blanks on their insurance forms. I personally have a problem with people who have children and don't seem to want them. That gets under my skin. Children are a gift!

6) A surprising thing you've encountered, seen or experienced?

Patrick proposing was pretty darn surprising. Right now that about tops the list.

7) What region or city did you grow up in?
Up until June I lived my entire life in Fairfax County, Virginia.

8) What are you "NOT"?
a tree, a man, the Queen of England... Seriously, I really don't know how to answer that. There are many things I am not.

Congratulations on your dress Megan! It is a very special time. I remember finding my dress also. I just knew it was the one.
I also understand the setting of the date concerns. ( It can't be during Lent etc.) And if you have to do the premarital FOCUS that takes time as well. I really thought the premarital sessions were fantastic. No matter how long you know someone, it is great to have the conversations, questions, affirmations and reaffirmations. Our priest has been a great friend of ours for years and it made our process even more special. :grouphug:
Thanks for sharing your experiences. It brings back some great memories. :goodvibes

Thank you all...for the joy, the planning, the banter, the sheer pleasure of life!
So sorry to hear about your loss.
