09/15/07 Early Check in September 15, 2007 Eastern

Hi Everyone -

I have started working on a web site for us to keep track of everyone. It is FAR from done but here is a link:

http://www.geocities.com/lisacarrott@sbcglobal.net/DCL_Magic.html

I have NEVER put together a website before so this is my first attempt. I borrowed the layout idea from the 11 day sailing (WOW did they have lots of stuff going on...) If anyone thinks that we should add other info to it or has any suggestions, let me know now since it would be easier to change sooner rather than later.....

Kim- I am so excited! I see your son will be 2 on the cruise...so will my son Ryan! Nice to see someone else with such a young one! :goodvibes
But I am sure my other son (who will be about 9mths) will be the youngest of the group! LOL!

Megan- are you actually getting work done?? :confused3 I don't see you posting much, you haven't emailed me in days ;) ......come on now!LOL!!! :rotfl2:

Lisa- Thanks for working on the site! I used to have a great Disney site, but haven't been able to do anything since my son was born....kids make us so busy! LOL! :p I am gonna go check it out!

The web site looks like a real good start. You might add that Janet and Lois have the early seating for dinner. Mouser/ Lois

DH and I are HIXSKI. Real names: Donna and Glenn. We will be on deck 2. We have the late seating. We go on vacation in September because we don't have children and it is not crowded then. We also call it our early anniversary. We are about 3 weeks short of it. We will be married for 22  yrs. I just don't know how that can be when I am only "29". :rotfl2:

Welcome aboard!

We're also sort of celebrating our anniveresry too! Our anniversery is slightly past the actual sailing date but it serves our purposes well just the same. AND... we will have been "together" 23 years next year... very similar to you EXCEPT, we were "together" 23 years while you were MARRIED 22 years! We will have onloy been married 13 years next September!

At any rate, welcome aboard again!!! :thumbsup2

Yes, this will be our first Disney cruise. Our group consist of Me (Kim), DH (Dave), DD (Hailey) 6 but 2 weeks shy of turning 7, and DS (Wyatt) who will be 2. We are on deck 2. My MIL & FIL will be traveling with us but they will not be posting here. We are tyring to get connecting rooms but none are available right now. My MIL is a travel agent so she is going to keep checking.

I would also like to post a picture but haven't been able to figure it out!

animation%20v2.0%20websafe.gif

How to post a photo....

Once you have a digital image to post - upload it to a hosting site... like Dotphot.com (free) or ??? In dotphoto... once it is uploaded ... click through to view it in its' largest configuration... then right click on the image and select "properties". A window should pop up and in the CENTER of the window is a "URL" followed by the mumbo- jumbo of code that is the image's address at dotphoto. Select and copy this.

Now with the address in the copied clipboard.... go over to the DIS forum and click to post a reply. At the top near the center above the area where you actually type the words to reply... is a tiny tan icon rectangle that looks like a mountin pictured aith a tiny square on sun in the upper right corner. This is the "Insert Image" button... click it. A pop up window appears... and the insertion point is already flashing there. Click "paste" or a combination of the control key while simulataneously tapping the "V" key once. This is a "shortcut" to paste as opposed to pulling the command from the menu bar above. Now hit the "OK" button OR simply tap "enter" key.

Now your code is in the window with an "" on either side ... the concluding bracket set has a "/". If you want this image centered - then slect the whole thing and tap the "align center" icon 5th from the left above. You can now type your message/reply above or below the photo depending on your artistic taste!

I hope this helps... I imagine there might be easier or more elaborate tutorials or "how to" postings - but this is my two bits on how to do it! :thumbsup2

Welcome to the sailing! We're on your deck at 2618! That's almost caddie corner to your location on the deck! And may I offer a constructive suggestion? Two sailings back we had a cabin very close to your loaction - same side and window catagory 9 near to the cluster of conference rooms. Well, actually I think we were a few doors forward of you. AND may I suggest you look at what is ABOVE you on deck 3 at the intersection of the midship elevator cluster? I have pasted it below side by side.

Above you is the main LOBBY and guest services desk and a couple of chiars with a cocktail table that gets foot traffic all morning, day and nite! In the middle of the day and evening they host all sorts of things above you - some very very active! Well, actually, they host all kinds of things in this area! Now by comparison - MY cabin 2 sailings back was - I think (now that I'm studying the deck plans) - 2046 which was right under the entrance to the Rockin Bar D and 7 doors (about 70') down from your current cabin assignment! All nite til about 1-2AM we had the drone and rumble of the disco music AND... we could hear the random tramping of feet walking in and out of the bar.

My spouse is very sensitive to sound disturbances - and even I was sort of annoyed with the random noise and disco drone - and I am not very sensitive to noise disturbances. - NOW, another consideration... I think Disney positioned those conference rooms next to your cabin - for a reason there. I think it is a noisey spot with high foot traffic on the ship. Why else would they waste valuable cabin space with zero revenue conference rooms? So - If you are sensitive to sound disturbances in an otherwise quiet cabin at nite - then try enquiring about alternative cabins. AND LOOK CAREFULLY at what is above you on the deck plan.

Above my cabin (2618) I have an UNKNOWN grey area. I am assuming it is a passage between the retuarant serving areas - and as such unlikely to be in much use after the food prep is done for the 2nd seating clean up! Plus - we are really far back and still somewhat towards the center of the ship so - we are not subject to much ships motion and potential for sea sickness. Again, my spouse is vulnerable to sea sickness!

Oh well... I hope I am not unwittingly being alarmist. Just trying to help out a little. If you get a cabin that is not too good then you can always try for a cabin transfer while embarked. When I had 2046 I really squaked (politely) to the guest services people - and they moved my cabin. I went futher foreward which was NOT good for potential sea sickness - but it was blissfully dead quiet at nite. We got 2512 I think... as it was directly under the forward corner of the "Off BEat" lounge. The ships motion was mildly disturbing on one nite - but every other nite was peaceful and quiet.

IF you choose another cabin catagory 9 on deck 2 - be usre to get a cabin with a SINGLE LARGE ROUND window... not the cabins with two small portholes. THis makes a difference IMHO. Ask how big the small windows are and the single large one - and then you'll know what I mean on this point.... maybe? :confused3

Welcome again to the sailing!

Cheers... from Tom & family :thumbsup2

Thanks. It is my first attempt at a website. Anyway, I have been working on it all day and it is up-to-date. Check it out and if you have anything to add, post here or you can PM and I will update it.

So Captaincrash - You seem to know quite a bit about Deck 2... How is Rm 2076 for noise? It looks like we are under Lumieres...Is that a good location?

Last time we sailed we were in Rm 2128. It was fine for noise at night but at every port they dumped the garbage right out our window so I wanted to be a bit more midship this time. I really liked Deck 2 since I am prone to motionsickness. Last year we were at sea with Hurricane Rita and there were 20 ft swells. MANY people were really sick. I was fine (with a dose of Dramamine) and I believe it was of great help that we were not on a higher deck....

Any of the new folks wanna try their hand at this earlier posted proposal for a "get ta kno ya" game? :confused3 If ya wanna see some of the other replies from other folks - go back to posting number 123 and skim forward a dozen postings or so... you may find several DIS mates with common interests or experiences... or you may simply discover some interesting little things about the crowd gathered here!

And may I suggest a get to kno game? Something to pass the week away ....

Here's how it works... simple really.... how would you respond to the following EIGHT random questions? Answer as extensively or lightly as you wish. Maybe some of us have more of interest in common then we realize?

1) Favorite music/performer?
2) Favorite dish?
3) Any Pets?
4) Any hobbies? Or how about substituting your greatest casual interests?
5) Any rants?
6) A surprising thing you've encountered, seen or experienced?
7) What region or city did you grow up in?
8) What are you "NOT"?

And I shall kick it off with my responses to the above...

1) Jazz vocalists and otherwise I enjoy a wide range (except rap for one), and I still enjoy music from the 80s/ Al Jarreau, George Benson, Keal'i Reichel (Hawaiian Folk), Sara Brightman, Stevie Wonder, and lots more!
2) Favorite dish for me is gonna have to be Alaskan King Crab with Prime rib. Really it's TWO favorite items! I also enjoy most desserts without whole nuts. I dislike having the nuts lodge in my teeth.
3) We have a huge Samoyed DOG... and we've had Samoyeds for 20 of the past 22 years.
4) Digital Photography and related diversions, and exploring the web. And I'll volunteer my casual secondary interests... things regarding aviation, financial/investing pursuits, astronomy, and computer strategy games. I'm also a science fiction fan of sorts. In particular I enjoy things relating to Star Trek and Star Wars, plus divergent imaginative varients that are not twisted or too extreme... if you kno what I mean.
5) I would have to say two things ... I have do not like mean people or wreckless drivers. Now - some might say that was an easy choice but it is true for my point of view.
6) I've seen a car race past me and lose control about 30 yards ahead of me (not my falut) and cross the center line and hit another car head on. Tragic and thought provoking. PLUS I'll add that I've seen a car flip end over end about 75 yards ahead of me while it was in a transition ramp - no obvious reason why it flipped but it was another sobering observation.
7) I've always lived in Southern California and grew up primarily in a couple of different cities as my parents had two primary homes ... Malibu (beach community) and Monterey Park (6 miles east of Downtown LA). One home was near the family business and the other was a kind of mid week escape home. We split our time betweenthe two pretty evenly.
8) This one might have been confusing to some... but as a truthful example... I am NOT a Football or sports fan. Some assume all guys like sports of some kind. I only watch the playoffs - and then only if someone tells me the games are on! And I'll volunteer that I (we) don't watch any TV regularly... as in sitcoms or any series.

AND I'll post my spouses' replies when I can corner her for candid answers... :confused3

I was fine (with a dose of Dramamine) and I believe it was of great help that we were not on a higher deck....

Well...

... let me begin by declaring ... "I AM NOT a KNOW IT ALL". But I do have an "opinion". I had a pretty unhappy spouse with the cabin near Rockin Bar D and as such I would like to help others avoid a similar pitfall.

SO - having made my non-standard and totally randomized disclaimer statement... on your 2076 ... you are actually under the walk way that goes PAST Lumerier's and partially under Lumerier's. If you were entirely under Lumeriers' I would say it would be perfectly quiet late nite except on the one evening they do the 11PM "Midnite" chocolate buffett Which might generate a little noise. But that is not so bad compared to the DISCO or being under the kids clubs.

SO - deck 3 walkways past Lumerieres' are a freeway in the evenings but not as bad as having ROCKIN BAR D... and as for having the guest services desk above by comparison... I would flip a coin and still not know which is better. IT IS very central on the ship and among the most protected spots against sea sickness. AND - there are no guaranteed quiet areas on the ship as it is a working ocean-going monster serving thousands of people! So - all we can do is try and guess-timate our cabin choices. There was a cabin report area or web site - but I cannot recall where that is. SO - in the absence of any other info or opinion... I would say the passageway above you is gonna be busy at all times of the day and nite - and potentially subject to regular walking noise. I know I could hear people walking into ROckin Bar D late at nite when our cabin was totally dark and we were trying to get some rest. If I were you I would check into a window on the opposite side of the ship and gamble with being under ships GREY spaces - as at least you can rely on havin' NO passengers walking back and forth at all hours. We do know the restuarants serve NO ONE after the 2nd seating, eh?

Now - that is not saying much - as truly I do NOT "...know quite a bit about deck 2...". But rather, I read the map and have had a couple cabins there. My last cabin was on 5 and 3 sailings back I was on 6 and another was on 4. SO I've been around a little - but as such I am NOT an authority until I've sailed in every cabin on both ships! So - I am still a ways off that mark! Heh-hee-heh!

OK... so maybe it was not all that funny... but I still can chuckle a little at MYSELF, eh? :confused3

Hope this helps a some. If ya get another cabin window with garbage going by OR you get postioned beneth a bakery mixer that is working ALL NITE to make dough for 4,000+ people daily - then officially I am declaring... "It's NOT my fault!".... which I am often saying to my spouse. She's always blaming me for just about everything - because I am often very convenient as a sacrificial lamb in all disputes and issues of discontent! :rolleyes1

Hey Captain, Thanks for the information. Noice has and is a concern for us. So much so that when we booked the room we went to the current cruisers and asked their opinion. We where informed that they had not had an issues with noice at this location. I, for what ever reason, like being midship so I think we will take our chances. If it is a problem we can always ask to be moved once the issues are identified. We have done 4 cruises and the only issues we have had so far was a young man who would not stop crying. Kept me up most of one night. Thank God he settled down after that. I am sure that is what his parents felt too. I also like to sleep with the noice of the TV so I don't think the kind of noice people walking makes will be an issue unlike the noice of the band down in Rockin D. Since we are doing the western as well by the time you all get on board we will either be very happy or we will be moved. Besides I have found that we really don't send much time in the room except to sleep and when we sleep it's because we just can't stay awake any longer. Maybe we are good ones to take this room and leave the ones that will be quieter to those who are most sensitive.

I hear people complaining from time to time. I quess we have just had really good luck or thing just don't bother us. I think it is luck because we had a real issue with fellow cruisers taking pictures with the flash during the shows this last cruise. You always get a few people who do this but it was almost non stop and even after they were asked to stop they would start again. It was very hard on the eyes and dangerous for the actors on the stage. Hopefully this was a fluk and the cruisers will be respectful of the actors and other cruisers in the future. You can get a pretty good picture without the flash. I guess no one told them. It's not like we don't know what happens in all the shows see them as often as we can.

Really looking forward to another awesome disney time. Mouser

Gosh, it seems like so many of you are traveling with friends & extended family and know each other... That must be so nice. So I am trying to keep everything straight.... Kamgen & Mamaraven are friends. Kamgen is expecting her second son soon and is renewing vows on our cruise and Mamaraven is getting married before the cruise (is there a date for the wedding?) Do I have it right???

I write it down in a notebook but then I still have trouble remembering. :confused3

Patrick and I can't set an official date until we have our first joint meeting with the priest (should be in the next few weeks), but we would like to do it in May, and especially on May 19. One way or another we should be married before the cruise! Yay! :cheer2:  :Pinkbounc

I can't wait to learn more about ya'll!
Our son is getting married May 19 as is the daughter of friends--good date!

I know what ya mean...

Most noise on the ship in my cabin does not bother me. And you DO have the chairs and cocktail table above ya so that should help - plus I think you might have carpeting there on just that spot! Let me see if I can dig up a photo... :confused3

At any rate... just for the record... I don't shoot any of my show photos with a flash. I have a DSLR which has extremely sensitive low light capabilities plus my primary lenses have image stabilization mechanisms to enable hand held low light shots. PLUS on some cruises I've brought a tripod/monopod into the theater to further stabilize the shots. I know EXACTLY what it means when they announce that flash photography is forbidden! Courtesy to others as well as the performers is a huge concern. AND... I imagine no one wants ME to start flash photography with the big flash gun I have on top of my DSLR... it could light up the entire Disney Theater when dark for a decent shot at f4, ISO 200! In fact, I've taken hand held wide angle shots of the whole theater by flash gun - but AFTER the show with the whole place empty.

At any rate - I don't shot the shows with a flash ... ever! And I kno you were not hinting that I did so... ;)
