Glad you had a good time even with bad weather. We have been there many times and its just around the corner. Haven't been there for summer camp since they put in the new pool - how it that?

Sue,

Last year when we were at Resident Camp the pool was not open upon arrival due to needing the final inspection and permits...something like that. The only option was the lake for most of the camp. Yuck! I was very concerned about DS getting an ear infection. It was so darn hot last year and no rain that having the pool would have been wonderful. They finally did get it open near the end of the camp. Imagine all the boys at once in the pool in the evening. They had a great time.

Move forward to this year. Upon arrival we learn that the swim test will not take place due to the pool not being ready.....can you say Deja Vu. I heard that they had to 'shock' the pool to get it ready. Someone said due to all the rain the chemical balance was out of whack. Then as the days progressed I heard that the geese and ducks were using it as a bathroom and the camp/program director did not want the kids in the pool. I am not really sure the exact reasons and whether what I heard was accurate but either way we never got to use the pool.

The boys were disappointed but considering it was wet and rainy I do not think it was a big problem. I know I would not have gotten in the pool this year if it had been open.

Just wondering if anyone has started working on their door magnets yet? Or are you going to do that?

I have never made a magnet before but I have been searching for designs in the DISigns section. I just love the stuff these people create. I could spend hours just paging through all the fun Disney designs. Oh, I think I have spend a few hours when I add all the time up.

I have to go purchase the magnet sheets and then give it a try.

Being a first time cruiser I have a few questions regarding dining.....

Generally, how many people are seated at a table for dinner? I read that they group adults together and then families with children together.

Do you eat with these same people each evening for dinner?

I know this may sound silly but I have a little bit of a concern with my DD5. She can be very shy at times and it takes her a while to warm up to people....especially men. Even people she knows that she may not see on a regular basis it takes her awhile. I just want to understand how the dining works and start preparing her for the idea now. I hope she will be fine with all the excitement of the trip and it will not phase her but again. .... Start preparing her now.

Breakfast- From what I understand you can select where you are going to eat breakfast each day. Does anyone have any recommendations? I assume the options are sit down table meals and then counter service type meals. Still doing my research.

I assume the same is true for lunch. Although on CC days we would eat there.

Any feedback, suggestions, comments are appreciated.

They have tables for 4, 6, 8 and maybe more. You will dine with the same people each night. You will rotate between the different dining rooms and the wait staff goes along.

Just wondering if anyone has started working on their door magnets yet? Or are you going to do that?

I haven't started working on them yet but know what I want to do. We don't go crazy and I'm not near as creative as the folks on the design board but I'm happy with what I make.

You are seated with the same people each evening. That's why linked dining is so nice. If you link with fellow DISers you immediately have someone to talk to! That's how we met our good friends the Patricks. They were at tables near us on our first two cruises (but part of the DIS group). Then we've shared a table with them the past couple of cruises we've taken. Our motto is we may not be the best dressed table but we'll have the most fun - this started on one of our 7 day threads when people were talking about how dressed they were going to get for formal night.

As for breakfast and lunch we usually prefer Beach Blanket but Lumiere's is usually open for breakfast and lunch as well. Here you may be seated with other people. I just like being more casual, well except for Palo Brunch. :)

Chris,

We have not started to make them, because I have to go to Staples and get the paper. But the designes are on the computer so all DH has to do is print them.

On are first 7 day cruise I left them at home he wanted to kill me. He made like 6 of them. Oh well.

I also want to make some of the ears that I posed eairler.

take care

Oh yea!! Started on them several months ago. Last weekend my grandsons and I picked out the ones we want to print.

There are 4, 6 or 8 at a table. I am doing the linked dinning and that is what is on the sheet I have to fax to DCL. I think I have scean more then 8 but not sure about that.

We have always been seated with a family with children. We ere 3 adults. I have request a table for 3 but never got it. Funny thing is the familes have always been from Canada.

We have always gone to the buffett. BUt this time around we may try sit down. Just to try something different.

I assume the same is true for lunch. Although on CC days we would eat there.

Not sure about lunch. We either went to the buffet or plutto's for chicken fingers. Do they have a sit down any one?

Any feedback, suggestions, comments are appreciated.

If you would like the linked dinning I could add you to the just let me know. The info that is needed to do this is on the first page.

I just wanted to add a couple of things from the other great comments that everyone has mentioned.

First, the server and assistant server are always wonderful with the children. They will do magic tricks, have their food out pronto (before the adults) and treat them like princes and princesses. Your child will fall in love with the wait staff. They become like family. If you really have an extremely hard time with the table you are at, you can always see the dining room manager and ask to be moved starting the following evening. We have never had to do that. You will probably be set at a table with children the same age, and if your child is going to the kid's club, they might already know each other. Don't worry, it will work out "Wonder"fully.

Second, if by chance your child is in the kid's club while at Castaway Cay, be sure to head on down to check out the adult beach. It is quiet and relaxing and the lunch there has more options than Cookies BBQ at the family beach (bbq steak, fish, ribs, etc)

Third, we always enjoy having a nice served breakfast one morning on the ship and Lumiere's is great. The rest of the time we usually just go in and grab something off the buffet line.

ENJOY!

Thanks everyone for the information regarding the dining. It was very helpful.

I really think DD will be okay but it had just crossed my mind this morning that we would be sitting with strangers. She is funny because sometimes she is perfectly fine and other times she won't even look them in the face let alone talk to them.

I have already mentioned it to the kids today that we will be meeting lots of new people and that we will be sitting with another family. I think the fact that we have looked at the Photo Gallery a few times and talked about all the people before the trip will help.

Plus doing the fish extenders will help in the excitement of preparing her.

Keeping my fingers crossed and staying positive. :thumbsup2

Check this out. THis was in my All Ears news letter. Sounds like fun.

Reminder: The Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage (formerly the Magical Fireworks Voyage) along Seven Seas Lagoon by Magic Kingdom will become available July 13 to all guests regardless of the size of their party. You can book the celebratory fireworks experience under its new name by contacting 407-WDW-PLAY (939-7529). Cost: 10 and older, $53.99; ages 3-9, $30.99.

Does anyone have pictures of their doors or door magnets? My door will probably be plain because I do not know where to begin. I am like a first time cruiser since I haven't been on a Disney cruise in over 7 years. And, I don't recall seing fish extenders or door magnets. Maybe I was in my own little world just celebrating being a newlywed.

Marsha,

I am glad you postedd this. I went back looing at my pics from previous cruises and realized that I never took any pictures of my Fish Extender or my door. So this time I will do it. But I can show you some magnets once my DH gets home and turns his computer on. He has the designs on his computer. So look later and they will be here.

Take care

This was my first time participating in either activity. One of the fun parts of delivering FE gifts is the opportunity to see how everyone decorates their door. I realize, at the end of my distribution run, that I might want a picture of my own door, however plain it might be. It would appear from the ones I saw that some others have been evolving their "door decoration collection" over time - kind of like Christmas Tree ornaments (dates of prior cruises, etc)

Anyway, here is my plain door, with cruise line logo magnets (thanks to fellow disser) for each of us, along with a couple of 8.5x11 magnet prints of my pictures (used to test the magnetic paper print in preparation for creating FE gifts):

The FE was bought on ebay - reasonable price ($2) with relatively unreasonable shipping ($8?). Turns out "granny" something on ebay is shipping from Hong Kong. No surprise there, eh?

The Creative DisSign forum is a good place to start for magnet ideas: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=105

Also the following thread has several ideas: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2147014

On both of the above the dissigners are a very creative bunch and more than willing to help you.

The magnets I am working on are at: http://s662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/miker1251/Magnet/

If I can help out in any way, let me know.

Mike
