09/12/10 - DVCers Take Over the Wonder (S.S. Member Cruise 2010) - Thread #1

just got back from disney and had a good time .but we had a few problems my sister like it to this time no small kids.she rented a scooter and we had some bad bus driver .they did not want to load it then they would tell others to just put thier strolls on it one of witch disconeted the battery and it would not start so the driver got mad and just made us push it off the bus.we had a dinner res. at poly.and was told to go to mk.and take a boat or bus. to there when we got to mk we were told no bus goes ther so go to take a boat after seating in the heat and talking to the boat driver for 20 min. he told us no boat will take the scooter over to poly we have to take monarail well my sister will never get on it .she has bad panic attacks we had to send my son over there on it on the monarail .we went to plant hollywood and had to park the scooter on the 2nd floor when we got done went to get it and the hosts was letting other people sit on it .some man was sitting on it playing like he was driveing it if we have to leave it at the hostess disk then she should have to watch it we have to pay for any and all damage to it.

So sorry to hear of all your problems with the bus and at Planet Hollywood! Some people just have no common sense or courtesy! I hope that the rest of your trip was magical!

Hi all, guess we are late to this party. Let me introduce my husband Mark and myself Lynn. We are fairly new owners at BLT, just a year now. We have 5 kids 3 are married and 2 twentysomethings at home. We have 7 grandchildren. We live in IL west of Chicago. We felt very lucky to get a room on this cruise. It took us several hours of phone time that November day
We are very excited for this trip, our first member cruise. It will be the 2 of us no kids. We have a room on deck 6.
We were on the New Year cruise this past Dec./Jan. with our whole crew (18) and had a blast. On that cruise no one signed up for a meet or FE so we just did our family
Now we are trying to figure out where we can stay before and after the member cruise and flights.
I hope we can be included on this list.

Hi Lynn! to our thread!! You're not too far from me; I'm in NW Indiana...about 45 miles from Chicago. We're flying Southwest the day before the cruise. We're also on deck 6!

Debbie your pictures are great. Thanks for sharing. I'm starting to get fish extender gift ideas. My DGD [age 3] is excited about being a "secret sailor"-instead of a "secret santa"!

Thanks! I am having a lot of fun with my camera...can't wait to take some more pictures at WDW and on the ship. I keep thinking of more/different things for the fish extender gifts...my DH keeps reminding me that there's only "so much room" in the luggage! That's so cute about your DGD being excited about being a "secret sailor".

Well, my big plans are that I am in St. Louis, MO right now and tomorrow I am judging Sweepstakes at a Golden Retriever Specialty show at Purina Farms. This is my first sweepstakes assignment and I am very excited One of my aspirations is to be a licensed AKC judge for Goldens. You can't even apply until you have been in it for 12 years and meet a bunch of requirements and qualifications. I am in my 11th year so I am starting the process

Hi Lynn and Mark Welcome to the group! Better late than never There are a great bunch of people on here and everyone is just so nice This is our (Terrie - me and Wally - DH) first member cruise and first Disney Cruise. We are very excited!!! We are also on deck 6. There's a good bunch signed up for the FE. You can find the info on page one. I am sure it will be loads of fun!

I AM LEAVING FOR WDW TODAY!!!!

OK now that I have that out of my system....we are caravaning - 3 cars to Pittsburgh airport. Of course our usual way has some closures!! My stepmom will be driving my Dad's truck - a HUGE silverado - she is not so fond of doing it but DSis' Boyfriend will be driving stepmom's car. Boyfriend has NO sense of direction and DH is NOT good when people follow him!!!

Pepperoni Rolls are a family favorite - my gram taught me to cook, sew and so many other things....I still will make homemade bread - although no every week the way she did. So I make home made bread and cut the pepperoni in sticks, some I just do like that others I add in cheese (pepperjack or mozzarella) and hot peppers. Wrap the dough around all the stuff and bake for 20-25min. YUM!!!!

just wondering, i was going thru my disney photos. I came across this one of this little guy. He was just over 2 feet long and sitting on top of this palm bush right beside the entrance to the dino ride. I got as close as i could to take photo. In the past ive had a 4 foot black snake slide across my feet while waiting in line for one of the water features at blizzard beach.

COLOR MIGHT NOT BE AS BRIGHT AS IT WAS IN REAL LIFE.

TERRIE WOULD YOU KNOW BEING FROM FLORIDA?

I would not even have dared to take the picture of the snake. And, if one slithered across my feet someone would have to revive me.

Ian, that is not something I want to see! Remember, I hate snakes!!!!!! I think I would pass out if one crossed my feet at Blizzard Beach or any where. But then again, we like Typhoon Lagoon better and I'm sure there is nothing like that there.

We made it...oh traveling with family!!!!

We had dinner at Olivia's a first for us - the special was buttermilk battered fried chicken breast with mashed potatoes and green beans and carrots!!! YUM!!! It is the special all week. I think we will be back!!! Sorry I didn't take food pics - maybe later in the trip!!!

After dinner we headed to MK for SpectroMagic!!! I MK at night!!!!

Well, this is my last day of vacation. I have a doctor's appointment today and then go grocery shopping since we have not been home for over a week. I am glad to be home but we had a wonderful vacation visiting DMIL in Barbados. The beach was lovely and the water was so warm. Now, back to the daily grind. Have a wonderful day.

HI MARSHA LAURA AND I WERE IN THE BARBADOS THIS WINTER FOR A DAY WHEN OUR SHIP DOCKED. THATS TWICE WE HAVE BEEN THERE. WE LOVE IT THERE. LAST YEAR WE TOOK CAB AROUND PART OF THE ISLAND THEN WALKED AROUND BRIDGETOWN. WALKED OVER THE BRIDGE WHERE THE ICE CREAM TRUCK IS AND HAD A DRINK AND SOME FOOD TO THE RIGHT ALONG THE WATERWAY THERE. I BOUGHT A SHIRT FROM A LADY IN HER SHOP THERE. THIS YEAR LAURA WENT SNORKLING ON A CATERMARAN WITH THE TURTLES ETC. SHE WAS THRILLED. I COULDNT GO WASNT FEELING WELL ENOUGH TO SNORKLE. SO I WALKED FROM SHIP INTO BRIDGETOWN AGAIN. TOOK PHOTOS AND WENT BACK OVER SAME BRIDGE AND INTO SAME SHOP WITH SAME LADY AND BOUGHT ANOTHER SHIRT. IM GOOD WITH FACES , I REMEMBERED THE LADY VERY NICE LIKE I ALWAYS DO I TALKED WITH HER. I TALK WITH EVERYONE. STOPPED IN INTERNET SHOP ON MAIN STREET TO CHECK MY EMAIL. WALKED BACK , BOUGHT A COUPLE CRAFTS MADE BY TWO LOCALS ALONG ROAD TO DOCK. HAVE THE STRING GUY HANGING IN MY CAR AND THE METAL DRUM PLAYER IN LIVINGROOM. WHERE DO YOU GO ON THE ISLAND? WE HAVE BEEN UP PAST THAT GOLF COURSE THRU THE SUGAR CANE FIELDS AND TO THAT LITTLE WEATHER STATION WITH THE ROCK I STILL HAVE THE CAB DRIVERS BUSINESS CARD .


PS, MARSHA OLIVIAS IS THE MAIN RESTAURANT AT OKW. WE EAT THERE EVERYTIME WE GO. GREAT FOOD.

Marsha - Wow you were in Barbados???? How cool. I bet it was nice and relaxing. Do you go there often to visit DMIL? Bummer about getting back to real life. Don't you wish you could be on a vacation all the time? I know I do.


Ian - I'm with you. We have stayed at OKW once and really enjoyed it. We have eaten at Olivia's a couple of times and have always had good meals there. It is so pretty there.

Getting back to the real world is a bummer. DH & I were talking about winning the lottery and being able to take vacations anytime we want. But, since we do not play we will not win.

This was our first trip to Barbados. We plan on going back. We did not do too much this time. We just relaxed and went swimming in DMIL's pool. It was beautiful because we could see the ocean while we were swimming. It had not rained in Barbados since October. But, on our third day there it started to rain. It rained everyday from then on but just showers.

We were able to go to the beach. We stayed in the parish of St. Micheal's. We visited the cliffs at the animal & flower cave in St. Lucy's (I believe). We visited the museum. We also shopped at Pelican Village Craft Centre (which is close to where the cruise ships dock) and the chattels at Holetown. Ian, Pelican Village is probably where you shopped when you were in Barbados. We had Easter brunch at The Crane which is a beachfront resort and has breathtaking views of the ocean.

We plan on going back to Barbados in a few years. This was DS's first plane ride and he did great.

Your trip sounds wonderful. Glad to hear your son did well on his flight. (forgive me for not remembering his name, I'm bad with them. But I think it is Charles right? Corey is your DH?) Plus, with your DMIL living there it would be nice to have your own tour guide to know where to go and what to do. Too bad it had to rain while you were there though. Especially after the winter we have all had. But still, you weren't home!
