08 was so Great at the Poly...TR-NEW 2/3 Time to say Good-bye (final post) / pics

Day 8) It’s time to Say Good-bye, but first some Pirates and a very FAST country tour….

We all got up about 7:45 am ish & Michael got ready for his Pirate Cruise over at the GF. I had Aldine take a shower after DH & I and then I finished packing our bags for checkout. Plus I made 2 last-minute runs up to the giftshop in the GCH and bought a new 12x12 scrapbook for myself, and some paper kits, and 3 smaller scrapbook kits for the kids and I found Aldine’s last souvenir a HSM stationary (back to school) supply kit. It’s really cool, w/ markers, colored pencils, sissors, erasers, and more in a very nice zipper section pouch. She keeps it on her desk at home and uses the supplies often. Oh BTW if you spent a certain amount of $$ you could purchase a really nice WDW canvas tote bag for $10 which I did. It is an awesome bag! I use it all the time when we are going places.

(DH took Michael to his cruise via the monorial while I went to the giftshop)

Here are some pictures of Michael getting on the boat:

100_2449.jpg

100_2450.jpg

He got those cool Mickey Mouse Eared Pirate bandana hat and a cool little treasure box filled w/ loot, plus he had some food.

Then DH & I lugged our luggage down to the airline checkin outside the GCH (we couldn’t just leave our bags in the room because our 1 suitcase was too large and had to be checked by us at the airport. I left DH w/ the bags and the line…and ran to get some bfsast for everyone.

Back to the room to finish eating and organizing and we left our room at the WONDERFUL POLY RESORT for the last time……:sad1: around 11:15 am DH had already headed back to get Michael from the cruise.

He took several of these wonderful resort pictures along the path btwn the Poly & the GF. (I’m not sure if I posted any of these yet on this TR but enjoy again if I did)

100_2461-1.jpg

While waiting for DH and Michael to return I picked out some new WDW shirts for the kids at one of the other giftshops. I picked out a Navy Blue one for Michael w/ Mickey, Donald, & Goofy w/ surf boards on it. Aldine picked out a read WDW shirt w/ Minnie on it, Mae picked out a very pretty teal Ariel shirt, and I picked out a Tink WDW onesie for Margaret.

Once we met up, we headed over to the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail. Once inside the park, we checked the line for SSE, but still too long so we headed over to catch a water launch into the WS. But to discover they had only 1 boat running and we ended up waiting almost 20 minutes (I just couldn’t bear to walk up and back today) We just sat and had a snack.

100_2476.jpg

After we did make it into the WS, we walked over to the American Pavilian to catch the 1:30 show. I had to leave pretty early in the beginning of the show though because Margaret just couldn’t handle it. I hadn’t remembered how long the show was, and it seemed to take forever! Major WDW rookie mistake there….:headache:

Once DH and the others kids got out of the theatee (BTW they all really enjoyed it, the twins LOVE history like their parents)we barely had time to finish touring the countries. So we basically rushed from country to country just to get Mae’s tags and stamps for her mask.

In USA she got a rocking horse:

100_2479.jpg

In Japan, a homemade origami bird

100_2484.jpg

100_2482.jpg

In Morocco, a plastic jewel thing

100_2491.jpg

100_2487.jpg

100_2493.jpg

100_2495.jpg

In France, I forget have to look at the mask to figure it out…. But here is a picture of her in Au Paris:

100_2497.jpg

100_2501.jpg

In the UK there was a huge line entanglement in the giftshop because Pooh Bear and one of is 100 arce friends were in there too for autographs, she got a dragon crest there. And of course walking out of the gift shop I saw some classic Mary Poppins Books, wish I had time to look at them and maybe I shouldn’t have taken a picture for a special friend of mine….;)

100_2505.jpg

At this point of course wouldn’t it figure almost 8 whole days of never neededing to unfold those ponchos, it finally started to rain (while in the parks) and we had to cover up everyone and the stroller, it wasn’t bad, but I know those FL showers, one can never be too cautious w/ the rain…The wind was certaintly picking up and it must have dropped like 10 degrees outside in a matter of minutes (I know because I wasn't sweating anymore) plus we saw some lightening in the distance and heard thunder. I was like oh please just let us get out of the park…..

We made it over to Canada in the beginning rain for the last tag and stamp (a feather loop?) is what I have written down….

100_2507.jpg

Then a very quick walk back to the Monorail and on our way back to the TTC.

RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It finally started pouring now. We had to for sure put the ponchos on and made a run for it up and down the ramps to get on the Resort Monorial to take that back to the POLY. (Normally we’d just walk back but not in this rain)

We got back in the Poly and hoped to have a quick late lunch at the QS Captain Cook’s but it was packed in there, proably because of the rain…it’s not a very BIG eating area inside. So we just sat in the hallway by a planter and shared some pizza and such. Then I went to pick up our shirts I had held at the giftshop and our luggage from bag check. It of course had stopped raining now. DH waited outside w/ Michael and our stuff, while I took the girls to change and freshen up in the restroom before the DME bus arrived.Oh and we also stopped and bought these to finish off the last of our snack credits on the DDP...I knew I saved these wrappers for 6 months for a reason:

100_1474.jpg

Coming back the BUS WAS THERE and was practically ready to leave!!!!!

The girls and I made a mad dash to get on board and there was no time to make sure everything was together, etc. DH looked pretty frantic….

I don’t even think I was sitting down and the bus was moving.

We got dropped off at OIA and after some major confusion about where to check our final bag we headed to our gate. When we get over there. That section is under construction so it’s kinda scary looking and it is very packed w/ people all over the place. I had a bad feeling….

But our plane is posted to LEAVE ON TIME!! Our plane to take us home arrives at 6:40 pm, and we should be boarding in about a ½ hour. So I take Mae to the restroom to have her use the bathroom and change into jammies for the ride home; to come back to see our take-off has been pushed back to 8:20 PM

1 HOUR and 10 minutes LATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And of course we had just woken up a sleeping Margaret to change her as well. During the time we were already waiting the kids were watching Mary Poppins on DH’s laptop, so we turn that back on.

100_2510.jpg

And try to amuse a cranky and tired Margaret. Then the time rolls around to 7:50 pm and they push back our flight AGAIN!!!!!!

Now it won’t be till after 10:40 pm Chicago time that we’d be home not to mention actually get off the plane, get our luggage, in the van and back home! We’re looking at Midnight by then!

The last quote from my journal:
“It’s now 8:05 ish pm Orlando time and we are still waiting…hey I guess I could get caught up on the journaling of the trip…oh and I should mention the 3 terror children we’ll be flying home with that have been running around and screaming etc in the terminal area and one very short tempered and cranky Grandma….(no I’m not talking abou my kids) well I guess I’ll let you know how it goes later”

That’s all FOLKS!

I didn’t write anything else….

But we did finally make it on the plane and safely home to Chicago where my Dad came w/ our van and picked us up at the airport. Here are a couple pictures of a very tried Mae waiting outside w/ our stuff before he arrived:

100_2514.jpg

more to come....before we're done

Oh, I just love your idea of doing a re-cap at the end! It was so much fun to read about your "favs" so far.

(But, judging from the pictues, I think I may have missed a post or two!) Now I will just have to go back and re-read! :rotfl:

Be back later,

Kathy

I love the recap!! It really pulls the whole report together, puts a big red bow on it and sprinkles it with pixie dust!! pixiedust:

Thanks,
I had made an actual Disney journal from some page ideas from mousesavers and filled it out mostly upon our return home (while I was  in bed) so I thought what I great way to use those thoughts to wrap this very long PTR-TR up....sorry you missed some posts there...I tried in the beginning on the 1st page to mark each new post, but I got behind in the end.

I love the recap!! It really pulls the whole report together, puts a big red bow on it and sprinkles it with pixie dust!! pixiedust:

Thanks Amy

So now one of the first things I did in the unpacking was to put ALL the souvenirs we bought on my bed…now I did not think it would fill it up…boy was I wrong!:rolleyes2

THINGS TO DO AGAIN OR DIFFERENT:

Don’t go in June again or only tour early morning and after sun sets.

Do try and stay on a monorail resort again, really liked the Poly

Do try and plan more time at the Resort-it [they] are really so NICE!

Do schedule more tour time for the countries in World Showcase/Epcot-you really need equivalent of 1 whole day!

Try to eat lunch/dinner in WS again.

Do Not plan on eating dinner again at the Mexican Cantina

Can pass viewing the Block Party Parade-it was ok IMHO

Do lots of character meals, and meet & greets

Do the DDP plan again, worked out GREAT!

Needed more time at the DHS-if ever going during a SWW time again you need 1 day for just that and 1 day for regular studios things

Do bring snacks from home again, worked well in the parks for all.

Need to schedule almost a ½ day preferable a morning at the Markletplace-DTD for shopping.

Do no parks on the 1st day-worked good, 2 trips in a row now.

No new goals or things that have to be done in a park on the last day-just too crazy w/ check-out and travel time.

THINGS WE MISSED:

MK: ??

AK: characters, more Boneyard time, Tree of Life, parade

DHS: Star Tours, MV3D, HISTK playset, Animation Tour, Walt’s Thing, Narnia, Fantasmic, characters, TGMR, HSM pep rally, RnRC

Epcot: more country Time, SSE, Maelstrom, boat ride in Mexico, Living the Land, Universe of Energy, Innoventions

THINGS WISH TO DO:

Water Park again
Mini Golf
Cirque de Sole Show-Matt

FINAL MEMORIES OF OUR MAGICAL JOURNEY:

The weather was cool & partly cloudy in Chicago when we left and was HOT & sunny in Orlando when we arrived (and when we left).

What I remember the most about our trip is the Heat first off. Wonderful use of the GAC card for Michael how it made such a world of a difference for lines, etc. The great characters and interactions at the meals and in the parks. Riding EE w/ my Mom was great fun. “Climbing/swimming” our way up Main Street (DH & I) on Friday night and the quietness of the park at the end of our time.

The Best things about the trip were FotLK, O’Hana Character Meal-Stitch Scaring Me, my MK night w/ Aldine, the Wonderful Princess meet & greet, the Jawa at the Studios, everything about the Poly resort, and SpectroMagic.

The worst things about the trip were the Heat, some miscalculations in my Epcot planning, Margaret hating the buses, leaving, and losing my MGM water strap.

The funniest things about the trip were bumping into two church families, Matt crowing w/ Peter Pan twice, Aldine calling Captain Hook and ‘ol codfish, and the Step-Sisters teasing our ‘Cinderella’

The final magic capturing Picture of the trip:

didn't you know I was going to choose this....

:thanks: for taking this re-journey w/ me down all the ups and downs of our WDW family vacation. I had originally promised to share some tid-bits about the next MouseScrapper Family trip in the pre-pre planning stages…and that trip is still in the works but now I’m in the midst of helping to plan a wonderful surprise bounce-back trip w/ my Parents to celebrate my Mom’s Birthday over our kids Spring Break the end of March.

I will be back w/ the siggie link soon!
J-

What a great report!! You shared the ups and even some downs... I really got a lot of great ideas from your report - especially for doing Epcot with the kids. I don't want to miss the character connection - I want to do passports and/or masks and I'll make sure to schedule enough time there. Right now I have (3) half days scheduled there - do you think that'll be enough? The only problem with having half days is that the kids are going to want to ride something fast each time we are there - which will mean at least a little bit of time in FW before we get to the WS. Hopefully that'll be OK.

I loved seeing all of the princess stuff - with two boys I don't get to see that stuff in person so it was fun watching your girls enjoy them. And it was great to see the "extras" your kids did - the cooking class & the pirate cruise - how fun! It seems like you guys were there forever!

Now I can't wait to read along with your next trip! I hope you get some of your TR started before we go. :flower3:

Scrappie-Do! Thanks for taking the time to write this trip report....I don't know how you have the time with 4 kids! I got a lot of great info for our trip with Liam from you.

Looking forward to the next adventure!!!!!:cheer2:

we had 3 1/2 days planned as well but it ended up equaling only like at the most 7 hours of actual touring. I think the big issue was we went in the afternoon each time. I think you'll be good as long as 1 of those is a morning to hit the big stuff first, just keep in mind even with our helpful card, Soarin still is a long wait (as you know)

I loved seeing all of the princess stuff - with two boys I don't get to see that stuff in person so it was fun watching your girls enjoy them. And it was great to see the "extras" your kids did - the cooking class & the pirate cruise - how fun! It seems like you guys were there forever!

Your welcome and thanks! It did seem like forever proably becuase the whole PTR-TR process was over a year of my life:rotfl2:

Now I can't wait to read along with your next trip! I hope you get some of your TR started before we go. :flower3:

Scrappie-Do! Thanks for taking the time to write this trip report....I don't know how you have the time with 4 kids! I got a lot of great info for our trip with Liam from you.

Looking forward to the next adventure!!!!!:cheer2:

Your welcome and thanks, I have gained so many awesome tips and tricks from your's!

Congratulations, Scrappie!

After that long "pregnancy", you delivered a bouncing baby "Boy-oh-Boy" of a trip report!!

I feel like Matt should be passing out chocolate cigars, all around!!

Best of luck with the upcoming Bounce-Back; I hope to be seeing you on the PTR board soon!
