08 was so Great at the Poly...TR-NEW 2/3 Time to say Good-bye (final post) / pics

Wasn't EE so much fun! Definitely one of Alex's top 2 rides (probably ties with Tower of Terror).

Can't wait to hear if you guys saw FOTLK! I LOVED that show - will have that on our list of must do's next time around. I think even Alex could sit through that show. There's just so much to see.

Love FTBB too - it is always yummy!

Oh I am so checking all my times again right before we leave! But they do say that a good touring plan will help get you thru even the busiest of days!

Yes, that is true...we will see if my 1st tour plan worked for us or not...right now pretty good.

glad AK was fun!
I'm :rotfl: :rotfl: at the Field Museum comment. when I was there in January, the Tibet area felt familiar...now I know why (between that and sue, it's like Ak lite).

Yes so far AK has been going good...the Heat though did make it seem slow moving, you just dripped standing. And I know I have a picture of that same Tibetian outfit from the Field somewhere...

I was happily impressed w/ FTBBQ, never ate there before...and I know we will again if Michael has anything to say about. AND I megga loved EE...could be up there now as a new top fav...wish I could have rode again.

Well finishing up some homestuff then off to Great America tomorrow, hope for no rain! I am bringing a digital camera so I will post some pic's after the weekend and then get back to AK and more fun from Day 2)

First I have to say, that when I took the camera w/ to GA I had thought it was in proper working order...even being a hand-me-down and our spare...so thought DH too. But to my dismay it was not, I have a few pic's but bad quality...I'm truly disappointed as is DH. I guess serves me right to not have properly tested it before taking! :headache: I’m just posting the sorta best ones.

(and I borrowed some images from online to show you a few of the rides)

As well one funny note, DH says so are you going to do a report about GA on your Disney thing too? He's getting to know me now

So GA is in Gurnee IL about 1 hr or more North of us, not quite to WI. We opted to try and leave around 8:30 am from my house and pick up my Dad on the way. We left just a little late and got to my Dad's about 9:15am.

We headed up (me driving) and yuck it was slow moving and icky construction. And I especially hate driving next to those construction walls. Despite the undesirable road conditions we made good time and were there about 10:20 ish.

We turned in w/ the 100's of other cars to pay for parking which has gone up and in 2 categories...$25 for front, $15 for back. My Dad and my brother's girlfriend's friend Jen (got that) paid together and we took the front lot, since we packed a lunch in coolers (shorter walk back out and in).

gasign.jpg

gacarrousel.jpg

this is what you first see when you walk in

We parked and headed on in with a watchful eye on the cloud cover. (it never did rain! despite forcast calling for it) We headed over to the smaller of the 2 wooden coasters called the Viper to ride 1st. We had a very minimal wait, which was nice. This was Aldine's 1st time on this coaster and I thought she'd be ok. It has a similar feel to Disney's BTMR, but faster and a couple bigger drops. Unfortunately she freaked  and didn't like it. I felt bad.

The next ride, my Dad and Aldine stayed behind for and she kept hold of my WDW backsack. So my Brother Dan, his girlfriend Angie, and her friend Jen and I headed to Raging Bull. This has about a 100 ft first drop at a 65 degree angle and going about 70 miles per hour at top speed....

raging-bull12.jpg

(the track behind the car is actually the 1st drop)

we of course chose to wait for the front row, Dan & I have done this row but not the others, once on the train, they were a bit nervous. It was beyond super awesome with a bit of this thrown in :scared1: and then we said why didn't we take any pictures!?

100_5433.jpg

Here's my Dad and Aldine w/ Porky Pig

We next headed over to the other big wooden coaster after a quick drive on the cars a ride that's been there 32 years, which may get torn down to accommodate a new water ride.

eagle1.jpg

This wooden coaster is a racing one, called the Great American Eagle and is one of the best IMHO! We are about to all enter the line when a very rude worker starts barking at us, we can’t take our bags on we need to store them in lockers for a $1.00. What!? But we just got off RB and Angie and Jen both had their bags no issues. I then explain that Aldine is not riding she can hold our bags up top while we go and he barely audible is like she is too tall…blah, blah and something this and something that…we were getting a bit mad and highly confused. My Dad then is like I’ll wait with her and the bags you go and we’ll figure this out later. So reluctantly we do that. Despite the ugh at the line we had a great ride, we each took 1 train side in pairs and it worked out perfectly that we were both in the front car on the same 2 trains. We had a good race!:thumbsup2

When we got off, there was a different person standing at the front of the line and I told her what happened w/ the other worker, and she was surprised by it and said there is no problem w/ our bags and Aldine could hold them just not in the boarding area (which I knew anyways). So we quickly went thru the line again after Aldine went on a few kiddie rides in the Wiggles World area, that unfortunately several she was too tall for this year.

100_5438.jpg

100_5439.jpg

And then we stopped for her to play a basketball game! She won a nice Tweety bird ball!

100_5442.jpg

We then headed out for lunch, you get a hand-return stamp. Angie and Jen ditched their bags, but I kept mine before going back in the park.

We rode a smaller spin style ride in the air, another 1st for Aldine, which she got a bit scared on too….oh no! I was feeling bad. But she was a trooper and hung in there.

We next went to go on the new ride, which none of really knew about, Aldine was indecisive about riding or not…and again I encountered the same difficulty with bringing my bag in even if Aldine didn’t ride and held it. Another worker thru the line said it was not a problem. I was getting annoyed. And it happened on the next ride too. It was like she was tall enough to ride, but because she didn’t want to, she couldn’t wait in line w/ us and then at the exit while we rode the ride….I mean she is too young to wait alone outside for 20+ minutes and she doesn’t mind waiting w/ us and I see no difference than if it’s someone who waits in line and chickens out at the last minute. UGH!

We stopped in a few other kid areas around the park too for Aldine her are a couple pic’s:

100_5457.jpg

100_5458.jpg

her and my Dad are in the 2nd car to the back

100_5455.jpg

100_5444.jpg

Oh and here is Aldine & Angie on the Bumper Cars, another fav of Aldine's
We also went on a boat water ride. Here is us before getting wet (sorry the “after” pic is even worse)

100_5451.jpg

I'm next to Angie my brother's girlfriend

100_5453.jpg

it's hard to tell but some of us were actually pretty wet...

After an ice cream stop for most we split up for Aldine to ride the swings, which she loves with my Dad, while the rest of us went on this crazy ride called Vertical Velocity. It is a single track that goes zipping forward and backward up a spiral and a straight track, straight up in the air. On one pass when you go backwards up the straight track you are literally hanging down looking down at the ground/water...thinking “Don’t Break! Safety Harness!”

We then took the train ½ way around the park back to the front and decided to get something to eat. On our way to the mini food court area, Aldine asked to buy this:

100_5459.jpg

100_5461.jpg

GO WONDER WOMAN! Or girl! (it was only $5.00 what a steal! I later bought a Super “girl” cape for Mae and a Batman one for Michael)

And then we rode the small coaster called the Whizzer, which Aldine did enjoy Hooray!!!!

After eating, it was now dark and getting late, we split up with the intention of Dan, Angie, Jen, and I riding Raging Bull one more time, while my Dad took Aldine to the gift shop w/ $ my Mom sent and on the Carrousel then meet up for one final ride.

Unfortunately the line for RB was too long and we only had an hour till the park closed, we didn’t think we could do both. So we caught up with my Dad and headed over to Superman: Ultimate Flight. As I was worried even w/ this line there’d be no time for Aldine to ride the Carrousel when we got off, I was going to skip it, when my Dad said no you stay I’ll take her….Thanks! Dad:hug:

Here’s a look at the Superman ride:

superman.jpg

You actually ride under the track in real flying formation! We waited through the line all the while getting deeper into mosquitoes, my poor brother was getting eaten alive, he almost jumped line for safety. Toward the end everyone around us looked like they were convulsing at swatting at all the bugs! But we made it through and waited once again for front car, which is too cool! Cause after you leave the loading station and head up the track there is nothing in front of you….and then you dive into this inverted loop. Totally crazy! :cool1:

So all in all it was a good trip and day, and Aldine did say she did have a good time, which I was glad for. But I tell you with all the extra charges for this and that, and not the nicest service to accommodate Aldine waiting in line w/ us…I do want to go again, because the rides are great! But it makes me miss Disney!!!! :sad1: :smickey:

Even DH said that before me!

Coming up next: Back to Disney and more AK FUN…or not?

Wow! That looks like so much fun! We have a Six Flags a couple hours from us - haven't been in a long long time though. We went to the local fair this weekend and I know what you mean about paying a little here and a little there - we spent about $80 in an hour and a half. We had to pay to get in (Zachary was free). $18. Then we bought 30 ride tickets for $25 - the kids rides were 3 tickets each, so they got to ride 5 rides each. None for mom and dad. Then we got some snacks $? Then we played a bunch of carnival games - Alex loves them. I think we Alex played 4 or 5 games at $2/each and Zachary played 3 - so there's another $16. It's crazy how fast it adds up. We hadn't planned on going, but Alex heard about it so we had to go - I owe his summer school teacher a big thank you for that!

We have a trip to Canobie Lake Park scheduled for later this summer. Six Flags-ish, but a level or two below. I think we figured about $100 for admission for the four of us. At least all of the rides will be included, but once we add on food, souvenirs and games - I'm sure that'll be another $100. Oh well... the kids love it. Like you said, it just makes me miss Disney that much more.

Loving your report!!

That's a tough age that Six Flags doesn't cater to very well... too big for the little rides but too scared for the big rides... I remember when my DD went through it and it caused me to shy away from 6 Flags for a while until it was no longer an issue because there just weren't enough choices for her :confused3

Glad you had a fun day though!

We just went last Monday to Great America in Gurnee. Wasnt the road construction horrible??

Did you try the new Dark Knight ride? We thought it was pretty lame. Pretty much a mousetrap type ride but in the dark. It was the longest line we waited in (30 monutes) and afterwords we were sorry we wasted our time.

I wasnt brave enough for Raging Bull (I dont like STEEP drops), but I did do Vertical Velocity, Batman, Viper, Eagle, Demon, Whizzer.

Matt took Michael to our County's Fair just down the street from us and when he got home he siad $30 didn't go far at all.....and I replied yep that's why we all didn't go this year!

OH, PS via the convo we are having on your PTR....I've been looking and now thinking:idea: what have you done to me sister? :rolleyes1

Thanks and :welcome: myrsfamly. That is the exact thought going thru my mind while we were there...I know I went thru the same thing too.

Hi and :welcome: JBurke

We did try the new ride and man I wish we only waited 30 minutes...we waited almost 2 hrs:scared:  It was very bad! Now I had wish we stodd by the exit and asked people about it....I tried looking it up online and coulnd't really figure much out about it, we were all guessing it was like a virtual ride maybe....oh well, now we know.

Next time you should brave RB, it is so smooth...really a great ride and no upside down either.

Thanks, for visiting!

OMG I LOVE Great America, I haven't been there since dh and I were dating. Probably about 1992.

We used to go every year in HS with our church and the girls would all DROOL over seeing all the navy guys in their uniforms. Now I just :rotfl: when I think about it.

It looks like you all had fun!

I remember many years seeing all those Navy guys too....no more though.

We did have fun, despite the craziness w/ our bags and Aldine waiting in line....but the rides were great!

And hey she was free w/ a school reading ticket, plus discount ticket for me from my Dad's old work...it's all good.

So as we were finishing our lunch and realized the time was after 12:30 pm and looking at the times guide, I knew we had to make a quick decision.

**If we were to see Nemo, we needed to beeline it over there right now for the 1:00 pm show! No time to spare. And there really was no other time to see it, as the next show was either 3:15 (same as FoLK) or 4:45 (we needed to be out of the park by then).

**If we were to leave for the day, I knew we wouldn’t make it back to this park during the week. But the kids were getting tired the heat was wearing us out!

**If we saw Nemo now, we’d have some time to walk around or rest before FoLK show.

What did we decide to do?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well after a little debate, we went here:

Nemo.jpg

The people were actually finishing going into the theatre, which actually wasn’t that bad since we wanted to sit up near the back and the exit. We round our way up there and sat in the far right section (if you’re looking at the stage) like 2nd row from the back in the main seating benches.

And they continued to pack the people in after us, I was really surprised! Michael was on the end and one CM was yelling at the crowds to move back, move across, etc…she was pretty loud…it really started bothering Michael even w/ his sound deafening headphones on.:(

But after about 8 more minutes of this I think everyone was in and the show was ready to start. We all thought the show was very good and enjoyed the amazing puppetry. :fish: It was so colorful and very well done.:thumbsup2 :rainbow:

Margaret had actually fallen asleep in Matt’s arm/lap for most of the show, so he was a bit uncomfy when he got up.

As it looked like the show was over I grabbed Michael and we were going to exit before the crowds, but the curtain in front of the door was still closed, and I guess a few (50+) people were trying to leave quick too…and we got stuck there and of course I couldn’t get thru to a CM to even try to be let out and then they have some finale song that we couldn’t see. So that was an exiting mistake on my part….:headache:

We did another quick potty-break and a little shopping too (that’s what I wrote in my notes but clearly don’t remember what we bought  ) as we headed over to the Camp MM area for the FoLK show.

We were very hot at this point trying our best to stay cool w/ the single misting fan I had brought from home, couldn’t succumb to the $15+ WDW version one. You truly didn’t mind when I little kid around you accidentally sprayed you w/ theirs.

We got in the line for the show as they were already lining up, but it was a good wait almost 20+ minutes. Poor Michael was starting to have a hard time, but we were afraid to split up and have one of us wait at the end of the line with him, as we wouldn’t have been able to get adequate seating for him then….

Anyhow, we finally got moving and were let in, a very nice CM accommodated us and sat us in like the 3rd row back on the Warthog side of the theatre near the exit if needed. Once in the theatre and things got started Michael settled down and everything was good. Whew!

100_1598.jpg

We really all love this show and I’m really glad we decided to stick it out to stay. I think, no I KNOW, I got teary-eyed :sad1: during the Circle of Life song…ok I actually have chills just thinking about it.

100_1590.jpg

100_1594.jpg

100_1610.jpg

And the best part of the whole AK day, which made sweating thru our clothes so worth it…during the finale, a brown antalope :confused3 looking dressed CM comes over to Aldine and Michael and invites them to join in! I knew Aldine would go and Matt and I were so happy that Michael did too!:goodvibes

100_1599.jpg

100_1600.jpg

100_1602.jpg

100_1603.jpg

100_1604.jpg

It was so great and awesome, what a spectacular memory!pixiedust:

As we walked out I stopped to get a final picture of the Tree of Life

100_1586.jpg

I was a bit disappointed we didn’t have time to look at it and have time for Michael to discover the animals, oh well. And then a photo pass guy was there and I said “let’s get our picture taken!” DH was thinking, ugh we look all tired and gross, but I think it turned out just fine:

image044.jpg

We then headed out for the day w/ one final stop at the outside gift shop for Mae to pick out an AK themed souvenir from Grandma. She picked out some twistable crayon pencils and a little drawing notebook.

We then headed to the buses and decided to take the Poly/CR bus back instead of going to the TTC and walking back…my Mom’s feet were tired…though this proved to be a longer bus drive and Margaret once again just hated being on the bus…when she had to sit or have one of our arms around her.

We made it back to our room by 4:30 pm and showered all the kids, plus us.

UP next: The 3 older kids travel to the “2nd Star to the Left” and Mom, DH, Margaret, & I experience a little Kona Bliss.

Great update! Didn't you just LOVE FOTLK. I can't believe April was my first time seeing it. I'll never miss it again. I'm glad you guys stuck around to see it. :thumbsup2

Your Tree of Life picture is really cool... how did you do that?

Did you like doing the photopass thing? Isn't it expensive?

Your Six Flags looks nicer than ours. Glad you enjoyed the shows at Ak.

Just had to pop back over....I knew you'd post:goodvibes

YES!!! I love FotLK it really is one of the best shows at WDW, even for the "some people" who do not like AK, really it's worth just a hop over to this park to see it!!!

Thanks for the picture comment...I only took 2 pictures of the tree...and 1 was blury, and this one I didn't like how all the extra stuff was around it. So anyhow, after seeing my Aunt use this program I jumped on board, it's downlaodable for free online. It's called Picasa. Google it and then you can transfer all your pictures from "My Pictures" if you use Windows or anywhere else I guess. and then there are all these great picture editing tools.

The one for the tree of life picture is called "soft focus". Hope that helps.

And this is the 2nd time I've used photopass, now not that it would suprise me, but I'm sure the prices went up since 2005 and we had way more cool pictures to choose from, that is my first of many to post. I just go online when I get home to access them to order. But between my Mom and I and the pictures we wanted our total was like HUGE!!!! so I got the CD. Now because I hesitated before when I read on these boards you could pre-order the CD for like $99.95 (vs exact price $124.95) I kick myself now that I didn't pre-order it.

So I guess w/ all that said, it's free to begin w/ and I know you can check out your photos in the parks...doesn't hurt anything to get some pictures taken and then decide later. And the fun edits--borders, clipart you can add are really nice!

But I'm pretty sure I will pre-order a CD for the next trip.

Great update!

I loved seeing your pics of Great America....I haven't been there in years. Despite some of the "line" issues, I'm glad you guys had a good time! That Batman ride looked cool.

I really loved FOTLK when we saw it...my 4 year old, not so much :sad2: She was ok at first, but she has a lot of fears..darkness, loud noises(we had to bring noise reducing ear muffs for her too) and especially fire. And the part with the stage being on fire just about put her over the edge  So, she refuses to go back but we're looking forward to seeing Nemo next time :thumbsup2
That's awesome that Michael and Aldine got chosen to join them :cool1:

Love the family pic and green shirts, that's so funny because a few months ago I bought me and the two girls green Tink shirts and bought dh a lime green polo. After seeing your adorable photo, I'm glad that I did!:goodvibes

Lovin' your TR Mousescrapper!

Can you tell me about how many different pictures you had on to choose from on your photopass CD?

Thanks, yes the shows were great, I'm glad we stayed...it was a good rest and out the heat too.

Great update!! I think your family pic turned out great!!!

Thanks! I think we have a few better ones coming from the other parks too.

Are the ride photos included? I have spent a pretty penny on just those...

Yes, I'm pretty sure, you just need the code #'s or sometimes they have the PP guy there by the viewing windows. We only have our TT pic though (don't think I was paying attention for all).

Love to see your "lime green" Disney family picture!

sorry that you DD is a bit freaked by the FotLK, hopefully in a few years she'll like it better. I think the music is superb!:thumbsup2

Can you tell me about how many different pictures you had on to choose from on your photopass CD?

You get as many as the PP people take of you...plus all the edits you make. I think a had just over a 100 actuall pictures and then w/ all my gazillion edits (i went to town this way I'd have lots to choose from when printing at home, etc) I have like 170 something on my CD.

Next post for Day 2) coming soon.....
