I am so glad you liked your "Home Away from Home." We'll be staying next door to Angie at the Wilderness Lodge while she is at the Villas in December (that is, if she isn't at the Villas @ AK).

I guess this is for Angie too, since she is a member of the Disney Vacation Club . .

How exactly does the Vacation Club work? We found some pricing on points and even some people selling theirs. But, it seemed very expensive. Did we miss something? So many people are doing it and maybe we misunderstood the timeshare. Thank you for any "general" information you can pass on. We really don't have the time to sit down with them for a few hours and tour a facility in December. We'll have the kids with us. But, would like to know if it is something we should be looking into for future trips.

Oh my! Get us started on this and we talk for hours! It is a timeshare, but points that you can use anytime, anywhere in the world. You can bank points to use with your points the following year if you want to do a bigger trip (like a safari!) and you can borrow points from the following year also. So, you can use up to 3 years worth of points in one year if you want. We did this banking, borrowing in 2003 and took all of our kids and grandkids to WDW for 4 days and on a 4 day cruise. There is no way we could have afforded to pay up front for that! We have cruised ourselves with our points and are using them for DD (sweetpea) and DSIL to cruise this year plus we are furnishing a two bedroom villa and a studio for the whole group for 5 nights at WDW. Again, something we could not up front afford. Points can be used at many 5 star resort around the world. If we ever get enough of Disney (HAH!) then we may go to Hawaii, New York City, etc. The number of points needed to stay at the DVC resorts will never go up. For example, it takes 8 points per night at Old Key West S-TH during value season (early Dec is value) for a studio. More points for Fri and Sat night stays. They did that so that the Florida folks don't book up all the weekends. It is a second home, so the interest we pay on the mortgage is tax deductible, as is a portion of the upkeep (monthly dues). They do have a presentation on the ship, which is where we bought during our second cruise. We have already gotten way more than our money's worth and we still have 40 or so years to use it. Last year they had an offer that if you were referred by a member you got like $10 a point savings on the purchase (or something close to that). Brack and Annette used our name and saved a bit of $$. We were supposed to get some little token of thanks - $50 or something, but Oregon does not allow us to accept it. But that was ok, we were happy Brack and Annette go the savings. We LOVE it!

I was looking into it, and found a site that explained the cost of the club, and whether or not it would make sense to buy into it. It may have been somewhere on the DISboards. When I get a chance, I'll see if I can find it, and will PM you the link if its on a competing site!

I have to keep remembering to look at that "other cruise site". I saw you were on there. It is a very sloooooooooooooooooow site (people-wise). DISers are definitely more active and seem to be more excited about their upcoming cruise. Maybe because this is a Disney site? Disney Lovers are definitely a "different" breed. We can be a little "Goofy" at times. Also, I like all the different smilies I get to use on this site. It is fun!

I may get into bed before Bill this evening. They just released Halo 3 for XBox 360 today. So, he is having fun playing Halo 3 on his new tv on XBox Live with his co-workers. Boys and their toys! Bill sounds just like me, except I'm a Computer gamer, and not into the consoles like the XBOX. I still take my computer to "LAN parties" to get together with friends and play games for hours and hours. I drove to Connecticut several years back with some friends to attend a LAN party.

Maybe Bill and I will spend some time in the Oceaneers Lab, or the Stack, playing on their consoles

Our DGS17 also does computer gaming. He just bought himself a laptop computer from Alien something or other. Don't know what all it will do, but it was mucho moolah for a computer, in my opinion! He rationalized that he will need a good laptop for college and this should meet his needs for a long time.....and of course it will be great for his games also!

You are welcome. Try to make the presentation onboard. It is not really long and there are usually DVC owners there that can answer questions for you about their experiences too. There is a DVC desk on the ship and I think the presentation times are in the navigators.

Our DGS17 also does computer gaming. He just bought himself a laptop computer from Alien something or other. Don't know what all it will do, but it was mucho moolah for a computer, in my opinion! He rationalized that he will need a good laptop for college and this should meet his needs for a long time.....and of course it will be great for his games also!

Sounds like a very solid laptop, if it's from Alien... They have a very good reputation in the "Gaming community".

We'll see if we can make a presentation onboard. However, Cole will be with us and usually children are not allowed at timeshare presentations. Also, both adults needs to be present. Why is that? Just curious.

It looks as if the sky is about to fall outside today. We are scheduled for some thunder showers. For once, the weatherman may be right! It was "suppose" to storm yesterday. But, it was beautiful (except a little humid). I took the kids to a big park with a play castle. We had a nice picnic and they played for a bit. A playground is very different on a school day. It was nice.
