There was a comment when someone left that they were tired of reading through song lyrics, movie quotes and other posts trying to reach the next pirate. I took it as an insult as those are some of the things I post. It made me feel what this person had posted was far more important to the thread and pirate chase than my contributions.
Then there was a comment about a private message and in Bold a person said to the other YOU KNOW WHY. It would seem to be as being quite cliquish to post something like that. If the messages were going to be private, well ok. But to talk about them and then post YOU KNOW WHY with a rolling eye icon, I found that a little rude and it could be about anyone on this thread. It strikes me if a high school clique of which I never became a part of.
So yes I called out someone on this thread who I quite plainly saw as trying to stir some kind of hornets nest themselves when really this cruise should be about having fun.
But that is ok, as a passenger going on this cruise I have every right to be on this thread as the next person. I can just make my posts, if no one answers the questions I pose that is ok to. The pirates are supposed to be fun as well, and if it gets close while I am around, then I am going to play to and work the post system like everyone else who is playing alone to get that next Pirate.
So for now I am going back to the fun of planning for this cruise. I just want my Brunch Reservation finalized. I need my vacation to be all it is quacked up to be and have those ducks in a row.
Trying to reach the next pirate is great fun. However the purpose of the thread is for us to meet, get to know each other, and share information. The pirate game (as Brack has pointed out) is a teambuilding exercise. But the team was being lost in the game, as it had become difficult for some of us to keep up with the thread when there were so many pages posted in such a short amount of time. It was almost as if we had to start another thread to actually share information about the cruise. Multiple, short posts during a "pirate run" are a far cry from the long posts that were taking up pages in the thread. I'm glad someone spoke up, and if that person hadn't I would've very soon. It was not meant as a personal attack, rather a chance for us as a group to determine how we want to manage our intereraction. It's ironic that the main component really necessary for us to come together as a group is openness and honesty. And you have already made it clear you are not comfortable telling us who you "really" are. Its hard for us to get to know you when we don't know if any of the information you give us is true or false. (This is a personal decision for you, so I am not criticizing. However, its unfair to call others cliquish after you were welcomed into the thread just as all the rest of us were.)
And just because someone makes an observation, it does not mean they are making a personal attack against another poster. This thread
will become cliquish if other posters who are seeking information, are openly ridiculed or told to stay off the thread - that is absolutely uncalled for and simply not allowed. Personally, I believe we need to be especially tolerant of those who are new to the board, and have not had a chance to become familiar with all of the nuances and protocols.
And finally, why would a message in bold to another poster concern you???? I'm sorry but I simply don't understand why you believe that every comment has something to do with you. I believe the comment you were referring to was addressed to me. My immediate thought was that the other poster was apologizing for sending me a PM about DVC to distract me in the middle of a pirate run! I thought it was hilarious! In fact, since she has my stateside phone number, I may get a phone call next time we're both going for the pirate. That is all about exploiting tecnology - NOT worrying about you.
A word of advice, the best way to fit into a group is to observe how the group currently interacts. If you are not comfortable with that, then perhaps that is not the group for you. However, if you feel that you can live within the norms of an already established group then by all means jump in!
but I could not wait until the day of the cruise to fly in. We're going two days ahead only because I can not go any sooner at all.
