I was flipping back & forth between this and a hockey game. I will probably watch it in its entirety on Tivo tomorrow. The men do have more "star power" - in my opinion.

Interesting. What's the difference between one long thread of 10,000 posts and 10 threads of 1,000 posts?

There are tons of pictures, etc being posted and then they get quoted over and over again - that has to take up some serious resources, no?

So - no boards after 11PM tonight.... wonder what time they'll be back up?

If I had to guess , the reason for the slowness could be, if the board is constenly indexing the board, to make the search feature work.

If the stop the search, and turn off indexing, that may make the system respond better.


If not indexing, it still could be some process that runs in the backgound.

Morning everyone!!!

It's clear blue skies here in London - which means it's very cold!!!! I am doing chores this morning and planning on car shopping this afternoon - my car is due for replacement and I don't know what to go for, so a little investigation is in order... Then this evening, DH and I are out for our regular Friday Night Date - we're trying a new French restaurant that has received rave revues...

Second if there is anyone new who has joined welcome.

I am sorry I haven't been around on this thread as it was moving far to fast to ketchup, far faster than the repo thread, now closed down temporally, due to size, and on the limited time I have available on these boards, I have lost out, keep updating what is going on.


The reason why the long threads are being taken off for a test, is every time someone wants to go to that thread, the computer searches through the whole thread from post 1 on-wards, until it reaches the last page of posts and displays that.

If you think of loads of people trying that on long threads all the time it is thought to slow the boards down.

So its a test, to see if it has an effect, and today the boards are faster.

A lot of posts on this thread could be PM's private messages, or Multi quotes to cut down, lots of posts, and the thread should be to find out about each other, also share knowledge of the cruise and organize events etc, rather than a competition for certain post counts.

The moderators have removed temporarily all the threads with more then 10,000 postings to see if it affects the operation performance of the site/and its' servers. So I am about to re-establish a new thread for the REPO sailing. We were invited to do so... anyways - good morning folks!
