08/08/07 Well, Olbia Monkey's Uncle! We're cruisin' on the 10nt Med Cruise!

I have updated the list and added the excursions for the couple of people who have recently posted them. I would appreciate it if everyone would post their excursions again if you have already posted them. It is easier for me to look at the recent posts and not have to look through the pages of posts.

I noticed on a few of the earlier cruises people are exchanging small token gifts. Is anyone interested in doing this? I have done it in the past and our family enjoyed coming back to the room to discover a small gift on the fish by the door or in their fish extender. Just a thought and wondering if there was interest.

Our excursions are:

Naples: Pompeii, Sorrento en Capri for families
Civittavecchia: Jumping back into eternal Rome
La Spezia: Pisa
Villefranche: Highlights of Monaco and Top Car Museum

The idea of the gifts is quite nice. What kind of gifts are you thinking about?

As far as the gifts, I was thinking something small. Things I have received in the past are chocolate coins, pens, a small white board for the door, a belt clip for water bottles, bubbles for Pirate Night, a bag of M&M's, and many more that I can't remember.

To answer the question about fish extenders - they are holders that hang from the fish that is right outside the door to your stateroom. Several people have made them and some have bought them at the Dollar Store. I do not have one and have always received the gifts placed on top of the fish.

Nordkin...THANKS for all you are doing for our Dis group !!! And thanks for the gift ideas. I was thinking of something Disney or Med related.Maybe something small to use on our tours ! HI everyone!

My 6 year old is a Brownie, and if any of you have been in Scouting, you have probably heard the word "swaps" before. She has insisted on making hand made swaps -- so ours will likely be little felt Mikey Mouse ear pins, or something she can make with her hands. She wants to do felt Bambis, but sheesh, I cannot imagine cutting those out for all our DIS friends! My boy wants to drop off lolipops -- so maybe we will hit a grocery store in Barcelona and find some Spanish candy for him to drop off to DIS pals.

As for the fish extender, we will probably buy a mesh dunk bag (small lingerie mesh bag with a string) from target or the dollar store and just hang it on the fish light outside our room. The mesh bag is lightweight, and you can fold it to the size of a wallet -- takes no room.

If we do plan to swap DIS gifts, we will likley need an updated room number list. I don't think I have provided mine yet. I cannot even remember my room number -- I know it is on Deck 2 somewhere.

We are arriving in Barcelona on August 5 and staying at the Grand Marina. I have posted the DIS Meet on the ship on the posting with the list of cruisers. I can't remember what it is right now.

Gina- if you are going to be in Barcelona on Monday the Chocolate Factory has free tours that day. We are planning on going then. The Magic Fountain will only be lighted on August 5 while we are in Barcelona, so we are planning on doing that. It starts at 9:30 so I hope we will be able to stay awake that long.

I enjoy doing things to help the group and it has been my pleasure. Everyone seems so nice and friendly and I can't wait to meet all of you.

I just returned from 5/26 cruise. One of my favorite excursions was the "La Cinta" beach break on Sardinia. It was heaven! I didn't want to leave and made a comment on my end of cruise survey that they should offer a full day at such a wonderful paradise! Hope that helps!

Day 3 - Palermo: Mondello Beach
Day 4 - Naples: Italian Island and Beach Resort (love the movie 'Avanti' so we had to visit Ischia)
Day 5 - Olbia: Jeep Safari
Day 6 - Civitavecchia - Following in the Footsteps of the Illuminati (thinking of maybe changing this to a Private tour)
Day 7 - La Spezia - Wine Tasting and Sarzana
Day 8 - Marseille - Chateau Neuf Du Pape and Avignon
Day 9 - Villefranche - Nice and Monaco & Evening Casino

We are Category 5 (Guarantee waitlisted for a Cat 3) with late seating.

Subject to change, as we're doing the 11-night prior to this cruise we may cancel some of these!

Thanks to Donna for being a good "compiler."

Now we've changed our stats a little bit. We are now doing the Calanques and Cassis tour in Marseilles instead of the city tour (did I spell ANY of that right??)

We also have early seating instead of late.

I'm really enjoying reading the reviews. I would have NEVER thought to bring my own toilet paper!

We are DW Jocelyne, DH Chris and DD (7) Mariah. What fabulous information being posted. This is our 4th DCL cruise and are very excited for the Med. We will be in Amsterdam for 10 days prior and flying into Barcelona on Aug 7 staying at the Renaissance. We are still awaiting room assignment, booked last June with DVC for an unassigned category.

Right now are excursions are:
Timeless Pompeii and the Flavor of Sorrento
Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica
The remainder on our own

This is all subject to change after listening to the pod casts and reading the blogs.

We are celebrating our 15 year Anniversary on August 15 in Marseille (Pirates night). How do I get the cool count down and previous cruises on the bottom of my thread? Thanks for organizing us!

Here's more info for our trip (DH Bill, DW Jill, DD15 and DD10). Arriving Aug 7th in Barcelona and staying at the Hotel Grand Marina. Room #on the Magic is 8518. We'd love to join the gift exchange! Not exactly sure how it works, however, sounds fun.

Character Breakfasts only occur on sea days. If you have early dinner, you will have an early breakfast. You can ask your head server if there are any openings at later breakfast and he/she will try to get you in but there is no guarantee. I have late risers and they changed our time once and were unable the other cruises.

Thanks for the information from both you and UMTerps, it's nice to know everyone is watching out for each other. Update on our trip; we actually arrive on the August 6th and will be flying over to the island of Mallorca and staying there until the day of the cruise.
