07/22/2006 - The Oh-Seven Double-Deuce Double Dip Desperados!

OK, everyone, I will lead the bag charge (just call me bag lady)

Here is the plan:

Each family (just one per family) needs to bring a brown lunch bag (let's keep it simple) filled with dollar store (dime store for us older folks) type items which somehow relate to the state where you are from.

Some ideas - foods related to the area, little toys that items that relate to the state: race cars from Indianapolis for example, hersey kisses from PA - BE CREATIVE
Decorate the bag with the DISers name(s)
We can randomly switch at the DIS meet.........

What I have seen work for other DIS groups...keep the bags simple and not too expensive - work hard to be creative - the items have to fit in the brown bag...

This way, each family (or group) can meet another family one on one

What does everyone think??? Are there takers????

Hi Barb

Sign me up, that sounds like fun....

Guess the NC BBQ won't make it, but I am sure I can find something else...
What a fun idea.....

Sweet idea, i remeber somebody post about this earlier :thumbsup2

I think it sounds like a great idea! Very creative!!! The kids (even big ones like me will love it!)

Oh, I forgot has anyone seen anything on the boards about the Costa Maya Beach Snorkel excursion. I have been checking for a report and have found nada. :confused3 Just wondering if we should do the official excursion or plan on our own.

Can't tell y'all how helpful it is to have this thread as an outlet for the wait until the cruise! I booked this in sept of 04 (dates released) and just can't wait!

I will PM everyone on the list about the bag idea so that everyone knows. Now as for an exchange day/time....have we set our first DIS meet day/time?

Let's add one more thing to the bag - a short note, introducing your family saying who is in it, where you are from and wishing the unknown recepient a nice cruise....

I know it seems like forever....I booked the day the dates were released also..So very long ago. :hourglass

I don't think we have set a definate day or time for the meet yet. Anyone?

i'm excited about this bag exchange! i'll try and find things from massachusetts to put in the nj/ma bag from my family. :teeth:

oh, ps everyone! i'm making a pin for every dis name on here. if you have any special name requests (ie. kids names, other family member names, etc.) let me know, i'll be bringing a bunch of extras (with no names) with me so we can give it to most of the people at our dis meet.

You can count me in on the bag exchange! Great idea! Something like we did with the girl scouts - we did swaps when we went to Mexico. We gave everyone something from where we were from. M&M's (now Masterfoods) is right down the road from us! That was a hit with the GS! Love your logo iggbees!
PS your sister got 2 awards tonight! :figment:

Count me in on the bag exchange....hmm, what to bring, what to bring?

Count us in on the bags as well. We are from TN. Can there be something in the bag for adults only that TN is famous for? BTW love the pins.

roysbrew's idea is an excellent one - hope I get his bag!

Anyway, some other ideas:

keychains from sports teams of the area
refridge magnets from local historical landmarks

have fun!!

Thanks again, everyone!!!

BTW my husband is also computer (and scifi) geek. Professor I stole the name we've always used on the computer "roysbrew" from him. It was late the first night I wanted to post and I couldn't think of anything for me. Maybe somehow I can change my name someday.

Bethipooh I read your post from another board. It made me check my sub excursion time. It too had changed by 30 min. We took the last excursion of the day, which is now 2:50. Glad now that we booked thru DCL so they won't leave without us. At 2- 2.5 hrs we will just make the last tender

Count DH in for the sci-fi too...And DS 16 is a up and coming computer geek...no offense to any of you out there, hey its how we are cruising and how DH pays for my Disney addiction. I love Roysbrew adult suggestion for the bag, maybe they need to bring enough for all of us... :rotfl2:

Our excursion time drastically changed, it was originally scheduled to start at 12:30 and end at 5:15, now it has been moved to start at 8:30 and be back at 1. That why I felt safe scheduling the spa for the morning. Oh well, worked out for the best, changed the spa time(ok twice now)so now we can get messy and then cleaned up right before dinner.... :rolleyes1

i'm thinking of some good things to put in our bag from nj/ma. i live near the yankee candle plant and flagship store and work at umass. unfortunately other than that there's nothing in this area, but if i do make a trip out to boston i'll find some things that reprisent massachusetts.

Back to the meet. Anyone up for meeting the night before as well? We are staying at the Raddison, not sure what time we'll make it there since I will be in earlier visiting DF in Orlando. We were hoping to get there early evening. Other then enjoying the pool and picking up some wine to bring on board we have nothing else to do but do the final wait to board. Anyone else at the Raddison?

Orlando Airport Hilton, here. Sorry.

As for the meet, how about Saturday @ 3PM before the 4PM lifeboat drill? It'll be better to meet early in the cruise so we know each other for the rest of it...

iggbees,
I am a transplanted RIer and can make a list of things of things I miss from MA - let's see: proper accents, understanding that the country has a history before the 1800's, GOOD seafood, Christmas Tree Shop, Greggs chocolate cake, clam cakes

Anyway, I could go on and on
Remember the idea was anything from your state - so you could do patriots, red sox, boston pops ...I would say shop at Anne and Hope but I heard they closed ...
