07/22/2006 - The Oh-Seven Double-Deuce Double Dip Desperados!

Great info. After buying glow necklaces at the beach one year at an unreasonable price, I now pick them up at a dollar store and take them with us. We went to the Disney Store yesterday and bought a few toys to take with us to play with at dinner. They were on sale for $1.99. I've also picked up some coloring books and other things at the dollar store. I'm going to make up a little gift bag for the stateroom. I was going to get a basket from the perfect gift, but I'm doing the bags myself. Then when we go to CC I'm going to let the kids buy the sand toys there. That's what they asked for last year and we said no, we had brought some. Our weren't Mickey though. The cost should be about the same in the end and the kids will be happy.

I knew the info would be here somewhere...

So leave room for Thursday night!

A couple other late responses:
Formalwear: Here's another vote for a dark suit. I don't own a tuxedo and am unfomfortable in rentals. "Uncomfortable" != "vacation".

Thanks for the hint on the glowsticks...I'll have to pick some up. Also, the Disney store (the ones in the mall, not the web site) is having a pretty big sale right now - I got the kids some shirts and swimsuits.

EEEKKKKK... :faint:
we were on page 2.....Totally unacceptable...

Ok, sorry guys, I have a slight case of cruise-itis today....

Thanks for the heads up about the Disney store, I may have to drive to Raleigh this weekend to go see what they have. :rolleyes1

man, i've been so busy this week i've had no time to work on getting the image resized to the correct size for the buttons. i need to do that soon! so i can cut them out and all. i thought of a really cute idea (something special to put on the pin to make it more 3-d like), but i'm not going to share it. haha.

only 1 more month really until we go! i so need a vacation. i'm going crazy this week with work. i've been basically training one of the new graduate students, who has never used any biological tools in the lab before. it can get frustrating with all the questions. :teacher:

Hey, if any of you are Costco Members and need a rolling cooler, :drinking1 this week they have a $5.00 off coupon. It makes them $20. They have the coupons in a passport book you get at the door. The coupon is good until Sunday.

Hi Savagefam- sorry just reading your post but I've been planning my 40th bday trip to wdw!! (does this madness ever stop?!) Our first cruise- my youngest was 3 (also youngest of 4) and I hated to split the kids up too- we went with 2 other families that had same problem... we tried to just leave him in kids club for small periods of time...it worked out great for all my kids to do this....that way we got a break and got to spend time with family...

Its so nice to see I am not the only one planning another trip already...

We have the decision to take a short cruise over Christmas or to go to WDW and see it decorated(tough decision right?) But now our eldest 2 that have moved out want to go also, and since DD does not cruise well at all.....Well, looks like a few days at WDW are in the planning for this December. DH better start bringing in the overtime. :rotfl:

Hey look, we made it to page 40!! :cheer2: party:

It's an obsession- (but in a healthy way)- I'm already trying to figure out if we're going to rebook onboard like we did last time....the biggest draw to rebook for me is that there is no penalty for changing dates....

Wow, only four more weeks to go. I lurk here a bit, but just realized I didn't post our room number when I first said "Hello". We'll be in Room 6540 (right next door to Bethipoo :) ) and DS9 is excited to have another DS9 nearby! :thumbsup2

So, for the bag exchange, can it be a really BIG lunchbag? We've got some awfully nice Napa Valley wineries to choose from around here. :teeth:

Gail, I think the idea of limiting the size of the bag was to try to limit the expense and increase the challenge...on the other hand, there is no rule that you have to play by the rules....wine is a wonderful thing!!!

See you, oh so very soon!
Barb

Thank you for the info. We are thrilled just to get a few quiet moments. DH is hoping that there might be a few nice older teenagers that might be willing to babysit one night. You never know.

It has also been hectic in my small world. My husband's family came to visit and we spent 2 days at Disneyland. Then 5 days later I took my Dad who hasn't been in 22 years...(he is moving back "home" to North Carolina on Tues) and we never left the parking garage. :sad2: He got sick and wound up going in the hospital when we got home. (He's ok now..potassium was too high). Anyway, between visitors and coordinating my Dad's move, I haven't even been able to focus on the trip. If it wasn't for this wonderful site, I would probably forget I was going on a cruise. I can't wait to meet all of you. WooHoo!!!!! After Tuesday I will be able to focus.

Yep, we've got multiple irons in the fire, too....we're staying offsite at WDW in 07...a little more than a year from now. Of course, we're thinking of extending our stay on-site. :cool1:

But, first thing's first....5 more weeks....anddddd, we're really not any more prepared than we were 2 months ago. Anyone else starting to get a little nervous?

Also, it just dawned on me that this will be the kids' first time on an airplane. What a great dad huh? First trip is going to be 5 hours. Any other west coaster on the plane with us - I apologize in advance....Here's hoping the portable DVD player keeps 'em occupied. :wizard:

Savangefam- just image yourself and dh by the adult only pool with the wind and a good book......the kids are happy, you are happy, dh is happy....all is at peace.....just a little thought to get you through the next few weeks.... :thumbsup2

(that thought is getting me through way too many activities for 4 children to be doing in the next 4 weeks with a husband who works shift work!)

Wow, I am back online......

Apparently I had some sort of major virus(ok Dh knows the technical terms of what was wrong with my computer...but..more geek speak :rotfl: )

I missed alot..So let me catch up....

HI to anyone new I may have missed.....

Pooh's Purple Pal, my DH feels like he is being surrounded by Pooh People...Guess with you next door we had better keep it down huh???LOL  I told DS that another 9 yr old is right next door and he is thrilled!!!

For the bag exchange, I am kind bending the rules alittle....I consider the bag I got , a larger size lunch bag with handles.. :rotfl2:(yeah thats my story and I am sticking to it) Ok I found a lime green gift bag in Michaels, and couldn't resist it....

I think I would be happy to exchange 5 hours in a plane with 10 hours on the road with my 2...Oh wait, I hate to fly.....nevermind...LOL

5 more weeks..is that all??? All that planning and I am no closer to being ready then I was a year ago. Oh wait, my lists have had lists, and now I am the grandparent to lists....I had better get more organized....Today is shopping for DS(16) I am trying to URGE him he REALLY wants to wear a suit on formal night....

And all that being said, GOOD MORNING CRUISERS!!!!!

Well, I only have my carryon still left to pack from our last trip, Then I can start packing for this trip. Life is slowly settling down here after traveling 5 out of 6 weeks.

DBinMV, our twins (4) have flown many times and for the most part do great. Here are some tips:

1) Let them be loud and run around in the airport. People will look at you but will be thankful when they are quiet on the plane.

2) Dr. recommends Benadryl to help with ears (seasickness too) Also helps them sleep a little.

3) We chew skittles or starburst, gummies, etc. for takeoff and landing. It pops their ears (better then gum at this age). Don't give it until plane is actually off the ground or (they will eat it all before the plane is done taxing).

4) We wait as long as possible to turn on DVD because we've had it run out of battery before, so we use it when we really need it.

5) They each bring their own roller bag (Dora and Thomas). It has little $1 store toys and crayons in it. A change of clothes (we are potty trained but have spilled a drink on clothes before). They bring their "Lovie" too (just in case our big bags get lost. They are a must for bed.)

6) If you happen to be flying SWA, bring your drink coupons with you. Use them for you, or offer them to nearby passengers if the kids do act up :rotfl2: (we do this but have never had to give any away. We've told very nervous looking people we'd buy them a drink if necessary) We flew about 7 or 8 times when they were infants. One baby on a flight makes people nervous, two babies makes them panic

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. Have a fabulous day!

Smahoney6 - Thank you for the vision. I'm already starting to relax. :cloud9:

DBinMV - Hello fellow West Coaster. We have done trips to NY and to NC and I have to say, it all went excellent. As long as the DVD player worked. :3dglasses We were OK. Best investment we ever made. We also bought special snacks and activities (stickers, crayons, hot wheels, mini mr. potato head, etc.) and put them in little back packs. Now that DS is 2 though, I can't lie, I'm a little nervous. But I'm sure everything will be fine. Oh, also try not showing them all the "surprises" before hand. Like for us...I will have a new "secret" :ssst: Thomas the Train engine I will keep hidden until I have to use it.

DBibMV, I think I remember reading that your kids are little. What worked for me when mine were younger was wrapping stuff up like presents and doling them out every hour or so. A HUGE hit were little cans of playdough. They sell them in the party section of stores and they are tiny, maybe only an inch or so of playdough in each, but they kept the kids busy on their tray tables for a long time. Add a few plastic animals or pirate figures and they can make up scenes and stories for quite a while. (It worked wonders with my 3 year old niece in church when she was a flower girl, too! ;) ) Another good toy would be any of the products from the Crayola Magic line - they work on the paper but don't stain clothes or tray tables. One thing to avoid - little cars! They're cute and fun, but unless you want to spend 5 hours asking the folks behind you to fetch the cars from under their seats, they aren't worth the hassle. :confused3

Bethipooh, I have that green bag from Michaels, too! Who could resist that color! :thumbsup2
