04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Welcome Kim! I 2nd what Lynn said! Good for you - and Grandma will be so happy you are ending your trip with her!:cool1:

Good Morning Cruisers!

Another day closer to our trip!

Have a great day all!

Phew, just read through the thread (yes, all 81 pages of it :lmao:) - I haven't felt great all day, so I've been on the couch - the thread's kept me out of trouble :thumbsup2

We just (as in 6am this morning) booked the Repo cruise through DVC - apparently we snagged the last Category 5 or lower (we were shooting for a Cat 5, but ended up with Cat 9 GTY). Originally we were booked on the Dream for May 1st, but a bunch of stuff changed for us, so we decided that this would be better (and longer!). We live in downtown Vancouver, so being able to walk home (depending on how much stuff I buy!) from the cruise terminal was a big plus for us when we were considering switching ;) This is our first cruise ever - let alone a Disney cruise!

We're also staying at VGC for two nights before the trip, which is very sentimental to us - not only is VGC our DVC home, but we'll be checking in on our 7 year anniversary (and we celebrated our honeymoon at GCH) too. Maybe we'll get some pixie dust... but even if we don't I'm sure it will be a magical experience anyways! :)

Wow Im going to need a vacation after the vacation!

Just a quick check in.

Still finishing the move into the new house and getting Jamie ready for college. She is counting down the days til she leaves.....15 days.........and she has a whole list of things she needs to take to college.

Her college roommate (they went to high school together) is a total "Cars" movie fan. So Courtney is decorating her 1/2 of the room in the Cars theme.

Jamie decided that he 1/2 of the room would be Lion King. Now, she couldn't pick something current, she had to pick something out of print. Found some stuff on Ebay and years ago I did have a Lion King comforter for a twin bed, but no more. Looks like I am going to be buying sheets and a comforter off EBay this week.

Okay......can't wait for this cruise!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Disneyland has released their 2011 rates!!!! We are now booked at the Disneyland Hotel from April 22 - April 27...and the best part...Mom saved me 30% off our stay because apparently Disneyland offers seniors 30% off the rack rates for the rooms!!!!! yeah Mom!!!! The money we saved on our room will pay for us to upgrade our WDW annual passes to the Disney Premier Annual Pass!!!!!!

Good for you Elaine! As my mom says... now you HAVE to take me because I am old and you get the discount ;) :lmao:

We have been planning this trip a bit. The San Francisco part will be fun and packed. Decided against the car rental. You can get just about anywhere on public transportation. Planning on the Disney Family Museum on the first day and a few things in the Presido and then Fisherman's Wharf and a cable car ride. The second day, plans are to go to Golden Gate Park. Since we have an aboard time of 3 pm it will be a nice day.

Victoria will be Butchart Gardens then walk around the city. Several options for transportation to the gardens, but most likely will take the easy public transportation.

Once we get into Vancouver, take a HOHO bus around the city and may stop in Stanely Park. We will be there for the day on the way back, so the HOHO will give a good overview of the city for the return visit.

Those are the plans, as they stand today! But they will probably change again.. and again :rotfl:

Good Evening Cruisers!

Elaine - great plans, good deal on the discount!

Linda - Good luck with the Lion King stuff, our camper has Lion King decor, but we did that several years ago, and I had no problem getting stuff then.

Have a great evening all![COLOR]

We are spending a couple of days at Disneyland (probably a hotel on S Harbor) before the cruise.
Can anyone give me the rough cost of a taxi between Disneyland and San Pedro Port?
I have asked Disney about their shuttle but they "recommend" any one staying of site to pick up the shuttle at LAX. I dont really want to go all the way back to the airport - I could be at the port in the same time.

Anyone interested in chartering a coach from Disneyland to the cruise port? I found a site that charters tour coaches. I have sent them an email to get an idea on cost.

I googled and saw a Trip Advisor post that someone paid $30 for that Taxi ride. If you google Transportation from San Pedro to Disneyland there will be more info on options there.

We might consider it if there is room for us. We are staying with family - but they might rather take us 10 min down the road to DL than all the way to the port.

Hi MJ!
We booked this cruise when we did the Baltic....should be fun. will be great to see you again!
We are just renting a car and driving south. We are only staying one night near the port before the cruise since we go to DL a few times a year. Plus that is Easter week and it will be crazy there.
Then we are staying several days in Canada and Washington before flying home after the cruise.
Wish we could do Alaska but not this time....
Also booked the Dream for New Years, a double dip....
Are things good? The Baltic was wonderful and fun. Lots of people from the Med cruise on it. It was very very hot though but such a fun time even with the heat.

Hi Denise ... The Baltic was great .... We were on the first one. The weather was great, but cooler than what you folks had (from what I hear at least). So we are on the Back to back. It's going to be cool though :) We are also booked on the Inaugural Dream cruise. That is going to be cool!!

We generally use Super Shuttle when we are at DL - we will take one from the airport to hotel at the port - can't remember the price. Looks like we have not made that reservation yet - guess that is why I could not remember the price.

Welcome Denise! Baltic hot? You were obviously on a different cruise than we were, I would call our cruise quite cool (the same one that MJ was on).

Have a great day all!

Hi Everyone

I just ran into an issue I haven't had before. I know we have a number of DVC members on this cruise and I just got some interesting news that I didn't know about concerning DVC points and cruising.

I just called DVC member services thinking I could convert a DCL reservation to DVC points. I've done it before so I didn't expect a problem. However, I was just told that as of last Friday, DCL would not let me convert my DCL reservations to points. The DVC person said that DCL is limiting the number of rooms available for booking with points now and that the cruises I have booked do not have DVC availability.

Anyone else run into this yet?

Thanks
Ken

Ken - Scott has been following a discussion on this topic - probably on the DVC boards. He may answer you also! If this is going to be the case, I guess we will just have to be sure to book our cruises the day they open!

Hi Lynn

I found that thread in the DVC section. I guess we should have called DVC from Key West - we could have made the change then.

Ken P.

Ken and Lyn....
that is interesting to know. When we booked this with cash deposit in July on the Baltic cruise we mentioned that we may change to DVC and they said nothing about this "new plan" :confused3
We decided not to and are in the process of seeing what Dreams Unlimited can offer us if we switch to them...

I will keep the DVC in mind for future cruises.....
