Hi everyone! This is my first post, having just joined, and I wanted to share our experiences from the cruise we just took. I have really enjoyed reading all of the threads here and found them quite helpful so I thought perhaps I would share what we learned in the hopes that someone might find even one item of interest.

I will start by saying that this was our first ever cruise and the Dream exceeded all of our expectations.

We are a family of 3 (a 3-family as my DD refers to us). There is my DH, myself and the aforementioned DD, age 9. We just love Disney. My DH proposed to me on the balcony of Cinderella's castle, we honeymooned at Disney World, and have taken the DD twice ('07 and '10) before this trip. We also became DVC members in '10! Anyhow, here we go!

We left a cold and rainy Boston on the night before the cruise to temper the stress of getting to the boat on time. We stayed at the airport Hyatt, and had reserved a car service through Happy Limo for the morning of the cruise. Having spoken with a very knowledgeable woman at Happy, DH made arrangements for us to be picked up at 10:30. Our driver arrived at 10:15, although not in the van we had reserved, and off we went to the ship. As you approach Port Canaveral you can see the Dream towering over the horizon and your excitement just builds the closer you get. It is really something to see.

We arrived at the terminal around 11 and it was just lovely, all nautical looking and quite inviting. It is slightly chaotic on the sidewalk as there are people just looking to take your luggage and get it on the ship. All of them were extremely friendly and really helpful. They send you to the area where the first check-in takes place - a gate where there are two gatehouses manned by a single person each who looks at your documents and ensures you have your passports. Then you are allowed to enter the terminal. You pass through security with your carry-on baggage and go upstairs to check in. Once there, again, poorly marked and slightly confusing as you are expected to move forward and obtain the health declaration document stating that you are healthy enough to travel. What confuses this is that Mickey is there doing pics and there is a line for that as well so people are unsure which line to get into. Once you sign the health form it is off to check in. There were 3 areas for check-in: one for concierge level, one for the Castaway Club (repeat cruisers) and the other for the rest of us. As we approached, we were handed a card with our boarding group number. Knowing from these boards that 12 is not horrible, but not great either, I inquired as to whether this was the best they could do and was told yes, that was the lowest they had. It was obvious that, at least in the general check in section, the boarding pass number was determined solely by your arrival time at the terminal.

We waited in line as I grumbled about the semi high number, as I was doing the math at about 5-10 minutes per group so I deduced that we would not get on the ship for about 1-2 hours once boarding commenced. We approached the counter to check in and were greeted by the warm, friendly face of someone who happened to be from our neck of the woods. The DH, charmer that he is, chatted her up a little and she was just amazing. I had trouble printing the documents but had checked in online and she was able to find all of them for us with no trouble. We asked her what time boarding began and she told us close to noon and then inquired as to our boarding group. We showed her the card which she took, crossed out the 12 and replaced with a lower number and her initials. We were thrilled. Then off we went to check in the DD with the kid's club.

Now, I am sure you are asking, why, if she reads these boards like she says she does, did she go over to check in her DD? Well, the whole process above took about 15 minutes so we had about 45 minutes to kill so off we went. We got into what seemed like a very long line at the time, but it was moving so we stuck it out and chatted with some very nice people in front of us. The whole process took another 15 minutes - not bad at all. Let me tell you that given the chaos that takes place later in that club for the kids, you are probably better off to take care of it in the terminal, IF you arrive early and have time to kill.

We then went onto the observation deck to see the ship up close. What a beauty. We would have stayed outside longer, but this was also the smoking area which made it quite unpleasant to say the least.

When we went back in, everyone was gathered around the area where they let you onto the gangplank. Again, not as organized as it could have been, as once they called a group to board, it was like the sheep in the movie Babe where the pig is shepherding them all through the gate and they don't all fit at the same time. Some kind of a queuing system would be better. We were observing the cast members who let you on the boat as they had a stack of signs going up to boarding group 40. At last we boarded the ship...more on that next!

Wow keep the report coming! I too am a first time Disney cruise goer, September 1st on dream.. And am loving:lovestruc your trip report and all the tips you have gathered

OK - SOOOO sorry about the delay. I hope to finish this today.

So, we boarded the boat, quick process, they take your picture and lead you onto the boat. It is spectacular when you first step aboard. The openness of the grand foyer, the magnificent chandelier, the crew all in white - you feel as if you are having a "love boat" moment. They then direct you to lunch, which in our case, was Cabanas...

We took the elevator in the lobby up to the 11th floor which is where Cabanas and the pools are located. We found 3 chairs next to the kiddie pool and left some innocuous items to retain our seats while we went to eat. Cabanas is huge! They have about everything you could want for food. First thing you will notice is that the place is unbelievably clean. They hand you hand sanitizer wipes as soon as you walk through the door. Even though it is a buffet, they seat you. (I think that next time we will ask to be seated outside as it is really nice to sit on the deck, as we later learned.) We ate a terrific lunch and went to the bathroom to change. This was a slight challenge as the ladies room on this deck only had 3 stalls and 4,000 people were boarding the boat.

We went outside and DH and DD headed for the aquaduck! There was not much of a line as it was early (probably around 12:40). It took them about 20 minutes to go through the line and complete the ride. In that time, the drink waiter made it around to our row of seats 3 times - you can tell where they make their money :). Tip#1: Maybe it was a rookie mistake, but when you buy a drink, keep the glass!!!! The first drink is slightly pricey, but, by reusing the glass, you save a lot of $$$$. Back to the aquaduck! The DH and DD loved it!!! So much that the DD dragged me right on it without even stopping for a breath. We waited about 15 - 20 min and it was well worth it!!! What a fun ride. It is really neat to look out over the boat into the water and to look at the deck. The ride is very fast. All fears I had about being the first person to fall out were quickly put to rest. :) Everyone should try this at least once.

About 3pm we headed to look at our room. It was terrific. We were on deck 9, port side, aft. We had a deluxe stateroom with verandah and it was perfect. The room was immaculate. There was plenty of storage; we had brought an over the door shoe hanger, on the advice of "dis" posters, and we didn't even need it. The room is very efficiently designed with regard to space usage. You can store luggage under the bed without any problem. We have very deep suitcases and they slid right under. So we unpacked and headed to the "titanic" drill at our assigned meeting place - deck 4 for our section of the ship.

The drill was kind of long, as it seemed to take forever to line everyone up and take attendance - I can tell you that in the event of an emergency, I wouldn't be waiting to have them check my name off, I would be running for a lifeboat - lolol!!! Immediately following this was the Sail Away party back up on deck 11. It was really fun. When they blow the ship's horn it gives you goosebumps!!!!

After the party, we headed back to our room to get ready for the first show - "The Golden Mickeys"! We had the late dinner seating so we had the early show. Tip #2: If you have any hair at all, bring your own blow dryer!!! We had read in other posts that the dryers were lousy, but I thought we could deal. Boy was I wrong. It took forever!

When we got to the theatre, it was getting quite full. It is really a lovely old style theatre. They do come around and take drink orders, but you will be charged. We enjoyed the show very much. Then it was off to dinner - The Royal Palace.

The Royal Palace was beautiful. People clump around the door waiting to be seated. More hand sanitizer! We were slightly nervous about our dining companions. As a family of 3, you have to expect that you will be seated with other people. We are pretty outgoing so we were actually looking forward to it. We were the first to arrive at our table of 8 and our server, Edward, was just awesome. We ordered some drinks and waited. I will tell you that this is where I was further convinced of just how well Disney knows what it is doing. Our tablemates were a perfect match. They had a DD the same as as ours and 2 boys also. The kids were slightly tentative until Edward made an origami frog and made it jump over a knife placed across 2 cups. Then - friends were immediately made! The parents hit it off famously, after one slightly uncomfortable moment when we found out they were Yankees fans (we are from Boston). After a terrific meal and much laughing, we decided to walk by the kids club to see what it was all about.

It was CHAOS!!! There were so many kids there - I mean (soapbox moment) c'mon people - it is night one of a 3 day cruise and you can't have dinner with your children?!?! Really?!!! Anyhow, it was after 10:30 so we parted from our new friends and made tentative plans to try and meet up at the pool in the afternoon the next day.

Chapter 3 - Nassau Day!

Great report.....

We did the 4/10 and 4/14 cruises, the first night at the kids clubs were both chaotic, but I really think it has to do with all the newness. We "tried" to just go in and peek around the first night after dinner, but I had trouble pulling my kids away... so I ended up letting them stay and I went exploring the ship and back to the room to unpack a bit. Things settled down in there after the initial night, but it was the same both first nights of the cruises.

Thanks! The kids in our group liked it too. They went for an hour the next day and when we came back a couple of kids were actually fighting. It seemed much better and much more organized on the third day when they went for an hour before dinner.

Did you like the BTB? Did you have to pack and then go through the whole boarding thing again? Or is there an easier process if you are getting back on...

4/10 and 4/14. Super easy and we had originally planned on 4/14 and 4/17... and when I switched we couldnt' get the same room.... but it was still super easy. The room under the dream beds are huge, so we never really unpacked much. Just a few things that needed hung. I also took a toiletry type bag, and just kept it in the bathroom. Packing took about 10 min. Left it in our room and they moved it. They do make the new room a priority if you have to switch. We went up to Cabana's about 810, had a leisurely breakfast, said goodbye to our new friends.... then disembarked around 930.... I took fabric markers and the kids colored their pillow cases that were given to them during Pluto's pajama party in the club.... I made a few phone calls, then 1030, they came and got us, led us in a side door and back on the ship. Room was ready by 1130 like they said. Yes, the banners are up that people are not suppose to go in their rooms for the new cruisers, but we were allowed, no problems. Around 120 we headed to our rooms and people were waiting by the banners... so we just told them we had been on the previous cruise(we sure looked like it in our bathing suits and such) and went under the banner and to our room. We loved walking around the ship, took the kids to the adult only areas so they could see too, swam a bit, ect... The only thing that I would tell b2bers is the pace of the people is very different. The three night people are rush, rush, rush, where the 4 night people are more relaxed. We were fine with it. As far as dining, we were asked if we wanted our same servers, which we did, loved them.... and I did ask for a private table as to be honest, I was tired of dressing up each night and so full from tons of food, I wanted to be able to just come order a salad and entree and get in and out of the dining rooms a bit quicker on the last three nights. We are still so obsessed with the cruises.:wizard: The Dream is truly magical to us!
