03/01/2008 Eastern!!

Ok,
I'm asking you guys your opinons because I value it.

DD's B-day is coming and I'm torn between two options:

1. Give her money instead of presents
a. presents I'd have to carry back in our luggage
b. help a little in DD seeing the value money has
c. neat things to buy, can't get here
d. Is 9 a good age to start value of money

2. buy her presents
a. What do you buy a child that has a lot !
b. She's asked for a Hannah Montana guitiar oh and she'd like it autographed
c. What child does not like to open presents

What to do ??

So girls and guys what would you guys do ?

Michelle

I always believe in teaching the value of money at any age. But birthdays are a different thing. Why don't you wrap several cards up for her with "gift certificates" for different amounts in different places -- on the ship, Castaway Cay, St. Maarten, etc - so she can choose within reason. And you could even include one care with a small gift like a necklace with a princess charm or Mickey Mouse earrings -- great ones on QVC!

Rani

Great ideal Rani,

If we do the money I love your ideal because she is learning about the value of money and who knows what she'd buy with a big amount !

I know we will be doing some kind of party when we get back. DD LOVES them, of course it has to be at the house too. I loved going to Chuck E. Cheese, no clean up !

Did I tell you guys how lazy I am, BIG TIME. I'm more lazy then shy !

Michelle

...wasn't it about seven months ago that I joined this thing? And now we're down to days?????

crazy!

Btw - I found some great info about the picture packages at the following thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23087747#post23087747.

I'll write more once I "pic" myself up off the floor from the shock of the prices!

Now lady, you can not be on the floor. Your DH is still on the floor from my e-mails and the gratituties.:lmao: I can not have the entire RANI family on the floor...... Sorry to tell you, there are no coupons to use either.:lmao: Did you not read that last cruise I spent almost $750 on pictures??? Why do you think I am working sooooo hard, you have to pack for me....:lmao:

Hey BJ,

We will be doing the same thing as you !! We are renting from budget too, Ron and James can ride back together. While Ron has James he can fill him in on how great it is to cruise again and again !!

By the way Good Morning everyone, I'm already back from work !

Michelle

I have James in my pocket Michelle. As long as he keeps his eyes closed....:lmao:

I really do need to go back to work if pictures are that much !;)

I'm going to clean the house and look for lost money ! Yeah right clean yuck !

I'm going to play the lotto and win the 78 millions so I can afford to go !! :rotfl:

Tink,

He really has been talking about when we go again !! Before he was not saying a word. After 12 years together I think he's figured if there is a way for us to go to Disney something I'll find it !

Mic

Seven more pages and we beat my first goal, two weeks to hit the 150 !!

I have to get off the computer for a little bit, DD wants to play webkinz. She earned a new one for cleaning her playroom.

I'll be back !

Gifts are always nice. Something small and simple for her to actually unwrap on her b-day. I statrd my DD off with an appreciation for a women's love "JEWELRY" at a very young age..... So, a nice real but child's piece is always nice and that does not take up room, like the guitar...:lmao: We start the concept of money very very early in our house as it is one of life's biggest concepts. Our DS is so into it that last year he came to me and told me I needed to get his b-day money to the bank by the 22nd. I asked him why and he said "because that is the day my intrest is added and I want it to count." Now how is that coming from a 9 year old....? He has started to inquire about stock now too. So never to young is too young. We always have $ negotiations in the house. Once I borrowed cash from him (we never keep it in the house and he had just had a gift given to him), to go to the drive inn. They only take cash there. Now grant it, he went too, but he let me borrow it only with the agreement I paid him back in three days or it was going to cost me 18% intrest per day after the three days. :scared1: :scared1: I did borrow it, but thought he must be a secret part of the MOB...

See "I HAVE THE PIXIE DUST POWER"....:lmao: Everyone, just leave your DHs to me and I can get them to do whatever you want....:rotfl: MICDAY, now do you wonder what he and I talked about???? :ssst: Now if someone could just control mine, because I am "LOST". Better go clean and do :laundy:

Anyway, Feiste, have you thought about that other park in Orlando, you know, the one you can only whisper about in the land of Mouse? My boys (ages 7 and 9) love Univesal (although not as much as Disney) and it is a lot of fun. They advertise a ticket that is good for 7 consecutive days for the price of one day at Disney.

Amanda

PS: I have never used a smiley before, but I was afraid you all would find me boring without them!

Okay Amanda, I should first :welcome: you and your DISNEY Family to our thread.... Before I :upsidedow So :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: (three cheers) for you to finally pipe in..... Now............... Here we go, I will guess I should let you in on some of the secret TINK rules..... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Remember I am the quiet shy nonopinionated noncontroling one.....:ssst:

Rule #1...... There is no talk of that :charac4: place on our thread...:rotfl: :rotfl: You can not even think of the name..... We have only :mickeyjum kids here. We have come to discover over the time of a chat our kids are sweet innocent, do no wrong and would NEVER think of doing of any non-Disney activities; but those (rhyme with stick) kids are the ones that give the parents problems... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Right KimS. and BJ......? DISNEY KIDS v/s _ ick Kids... Ours are

Rule # 2....... You do have to use at least one smilie in your post as we once made Mad & Feiste go back and make up for all of them.... :rotfl2: So unless you want to be sitting at the computer on Feb. 29th, adding your smilies.....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: You have to do them now, or Jen will not let you in the terminal..... Jen, I heard they are saving boarding pass #2 just for you..... I called DCL again, since I call everyday 3Xs a day and told them to save it just for you.:thumbsup2

Okay BJ, should I sign this one Stinky Tinky?????? Ya....

Stinky Tinky??????? That's not very nice..I can't imagine anyone ever calling you that LOL!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Okay...so much for the pre-cruise diet....the girls are making cut out sugar cookies..and I just made the frosting....

o'well, I tried :lovestruc

Micday....b-day presents...I too like the gift card idea...how about getting a Disney gift card from your local Disney store, with whatever $$$ amount you want, and giving it to her on her B-day so that she can use it in the gift shop on the ship or at castaway cay???
She can pick out something special that can help her remember her trip..

a couple of things to keep in mind if you do this....

1...her birthday is on a port day, and the gift shops onboard are not open while in port...but would be later that night

2...also, all purchases onboard can only be charged to your stateroom, you can not use cash or pay w/cc (someone please corrrect me if I am wrong on this:) )..so when you settle your account at guest services, she could then redeem her gift card..

You said she likes webkinz...and they are small (so don't take up much room), maybe have one hid, that you can show your stateroom host...and ask him to do something fun with it when he turns down the beds that night...or just ask him to leave it on her pillow..you can have a note with it or something???

A simple idea...bring along a birthday candle..you can always stick it in pretty much anything..pancakes..pizza hambuger Ice cream anything fun..and sing Happy Birthday:)
Surprise her with a room service order...Mickey bar... cheese tray (my girls love these) what ever you think she might like...

And if you do the guitar idea..you can always tell her, that her big present is at home waiting for her..that way you don't have to lug it all around....

I'm sure she will have a exciting Birthday no matter what you do..after all, she is on a Disney Cruise!!!! what could be better than that:)

As far as kids and the value of the dollar.. no,never to young to start learning about that.
I feel it is very important...DD14 who has a job, gets to keep 1/2 of her pay check and the other half goes into her savings account (even if her check is only $25.00)..and both girls put some of their birthday/christmas $$$ in their savings account..we take them to the bank so they can do this themselves...

Better go clean and do :laundy:

does anyone remember the 80s series about aliens called "V." If so, do you remember Willie the Assimilating Alien saying, "I am Just?" when he was trying to say, "I am lost?" Just jogged my memory....

oh yeah tink - your ds and ds MUST schedule a meeting to discuss this interest and stock thing -- it's a big issue here too!

So I go out and buy those TSA approved locks for the suitcases and put the locks on the suitcases and the keys on the top shelf of the desk. I try out the keys and realize things have changed in the past 20 years -- one key does NOT unlock 20 million suitcases!

Last night I look at the shelf and one of the sets of keys is missing!!!!! I try hypnosis, memory games, sending one thing to find the other....my DD CAN NOT find the keys!!!!

They must be with the coupons~

Michelle, I hope I never have to stop thinking of the best gifts for DS. Birthdays rock and I like to see the smile on his face. Did you know that you could get Disney Dollars and give them to DD and she can 'pay' toward 'her' account? DS had a ball doing that. Years ago a family member of ours took a wad of brand new dollars ($25.00?) and went to the printer (Kinko's). They will put the dollars together in a booklet like a little scratch pad (the ones with rubbery glue). When the kids wanted to use them, they'd just tear out a dollar. We did this with our kids and it was really fun for them. You could also do that with DDollars. Another suggestions is to take a picture of the 'real' or 'big' gift and put it in the birthday card to give to DD on the trip.

Although I am so very excited to board that ship - I will not be rushing to Port Canaveral with my family. You really cannot board until closer to noon. You don't get your luggage until closer to 1:30 pm. I have pictures of us sitting on a cool tile floor waiting to board. Since we will be traveling with tktstjohn we'll take our time and enjoy the company.
p.s. Don't forget to pack your bathing suits in your carryon - you may not get your luggage before dinner time. The pools and hot tubs will be open.

I only have one child and some days it feels like I've been run over, three or even two:scared1: , don't want to go there !

Rani, since you now have to upgrade to a suite can the MAD family bunk with you ?

DD has a saving account and she saves until there is toy that I won't buy. I've become really firm in the toy thing because she's riding the fench on little girl to it's not cool !princess:

Love the tips you guys but why does that nasty word, packing, keep poping up. It's like the word cleaning, makes me cringe.
